Dannyz 3,100 Posted November 20, 2023 Posted November 20, 2023 Looks to have a nice turn of speed and smart delivery but I don't think he's got enough class to warrant being selected in the top 10. 3 Quote

So i'd be confident he will be there at 11. As another poster said, pick the best player outside of him at 6. and get him at 11. Been heavily linked to GWS where he’d perfectly suit their game plan and list needs. Im sure we’ve done the recon on where he’d go. Take someone else at 6. Curtin, Caddy, O’Sullivan go 7,8,9. But unfortunately there’s pesky GWS in the middle. 1 Quote
dee-tox 4,835 Posted November 20, 2023 Posted November 20, 2023 So this is our man! Great. Speed and a line breaker. Just what the doctor ordered. Unlike a couple of our guys, can sprint and kick the ball at the same time! JT must think he can also get his hands dirty too which would be my only reservation. Quote

From his Rookie me central profile-“Another facet of Windsor's game he has shown improvement in is his kicking. He often gets good length and is capable of slotting impressive goals on the run, but does a lot of work at speed and that can impact his efficiency in the short-range. When more measured, he is capable of sharp passes which do damage.” If JT thinks he’s the man at 6 I’m happy with that but we may need to lower our expectations of his current abilities. I’m sure he will continue to improve his kicking including when moving at pace. Quote
Garbo 1,567 Posted November 20, 2023 Posted November 20, 2023 (edited) I trust our recruiters as they have a very good strike rate, but my gut says you shouldn’t take small fwds or outside mids inside the first 10 and should be looking at an outside mid only with our with our 2nd pick. We should be looking for a Steven May replacement given Petty is also likely out in a year or 2 as well. Curtin seems like the ready made replacement and seems highly regarded or Caddy if we want more fwd options. Edited November 20, 2023 by Garbo 4 Quote

I wouldn't go as far as saying you should never take outside mids or small forwards high, but it's undeniably a riskier propostion drafting kids who have yet to prove they can win their own footy. I'm in on Windsor if JT is, because he's more than earned our trust and has a proven track record of nailing high draft picks, but it's a big call to pass on Curtin (which now looks likely) in favour of a kid who hasn't proven he can win the hard ball. 2 Quote

I think JT has really nailed the harder / aggressive recruits and last 2 drafts has tried to draft more for needs (which makes sense) and in my mind has failed apart from Van Rooyen. But it's hard to do reading up on a keyboard and watching limited highlights. And as another poster said our game style doesn't suit fast ball movement which gives forwards a chance to actually lead and fight 1v1 (so does recruiting a silky outside player actually help the machine that is melbourne.. in theory yes.. but.. 2021 19 Jacob van Rooyen Melbourne Claremont WAFL 39 Blake Howes Melbourne Sandringham Dragons 2022 15 Matthew Jefferson Melbourne Oakleigh Chargers NAB League 38 Jed Adams Melbourne Peel Thunder WAFL I personally would love us to get a tall defender to play behind may for 2 years ish until he retires instead - i like the look of this guy in particular (Murray Bushrangers defender Connor O’Sullivan). And we don't even know if windsor or any of the draftees can play next year or not. Oh well, let's see it on the field fellas. Quote

I’m baffled that in extended highlights from 5 different games there doesn’t seem to be a single clip of Windsor on ball. He’s clearly Eastern’s second best draft prospect and was in first round calculations from mid year. Just seems baffling to have him on a wing the whole time rather than give him the chance to prove his value as a clearance player. Might be a blessing in disguise and his value would’ve only gone up. But it’s confusing coaching. 7 Quote

Nascent 9,345 Posted November 20, 2023 Posted November 20, 2023 Said it before but kid has some aggressive and loves a tackle. He may start outside as he builds his body but don't think he'll be pigeon-holed there his career. 1 Quote
ChaserJ 5,192 Posted November 20, 2023 Posted November 20, 2023 There’s a lot of projection involved with Windsor. I have a huge amount of trust in our recruitment team to get it right. If I was picking, I’d still have Windsor in the 10-15 bracket, and would pick Curtin first. Windsor had a good year and he grew as the year went on, but didn’t see the signature game or performance that really turned a game in his sides favour, which stuck in my head. Can pick out games from the Reid, Curtin, Watson and the others inside top 5 range, even Caddy had some truly standout games. That projection is really where the recruiters earn their dollars I guess, because the risks can be quite high. 8 Quote

Travis Cloke is the Talent “Parthway” Head Coach at ER, so could have been doing his bit for Derek Hine. Would have maybe slipped JT some intel after knowing each other before Neeld dragged him across from the dark side. Sorry did I just drop a name & curse this draft crop? Quote

Each player has strengths with which we can prosper. It’s up to us to develop and train both and all our young talents on the plan that we play. Both have a great opportunity. Must say I think we should have picked Curtin then Windsor. Good KP players are hard to find. We could be bluffing of course. 1 Quote

Gator 18,053 Posted November 20, 2023 Posted November 20, 2023 Like some others I can't get too excited by Windsor at pick 7. I'd take Curtin ahead of him every day of the week. That said, Taylor has an excellent record, so I'll back his judgement. Windsor may well play 200 games and be a very valuable player, but I don't see his type of player as a top 10 selection. Nick Daicos is a poor comparison, because he's not purely playing a wing role. In fact, he never has. He's no midfield beast, but he does have good history in a midfield role and the associated metrics that follow. Josh Daicos is a better comparison, because he does play that role.. And despite him being an AA and a B&F winner in a premiership year I still wouldn't take him with a top 7 pick in a National Draft. I know generational talents are rare in the top 7, but I still want to back myself to land one. Curtin could be one, whereas I'll be shocked if Windsor is. C'est la vie. 6 1 Quote

Young Blood 2,642 Posted November 20, 2023 Posted November 20, 2023 I like the idea of Windsor pushing both Hunter and Langdon in his first year. Both of our wingers I feel have got a little bit too comfortable with little to no challenge coming at them for their position. 6 Quote

Crazy talk g man I've never once in any game we've ever played Collingwood given prior thought to Josh Daicos being a major threat. I've thought of DeGoey, Pendlebury, Nick, Grundy, Sidebottom, but never Josh. Very good little player, but not someone I'm selecting at pick 7. You, of course, can please yourself. Quote
