"The boys finished in the top four
Thru home finals we will cruise
I said the girls finished in the top four
The flag is ours to lose
But we played like funkin' rubbish
I got the straight sets red and blues"

Second verse same as the first ...

We lost the same amount of finals in 2023 that we played in the period of 2003 to 2017 inclusive.

Yes I'm disappointed we didn't win and I think we should have done better.

But I'd rather have a team I can enjoy watching, who competes pretty well, that what we've had in the past.

At least in the W it wasn’t the result of totally inept team selection, not playing the second ruck that was recruited to play that role but instead either having no one contest the ruck or worse risking injury to one of the game’s best midfielders in that role.

Oh, and totally getting the sub selection wrong and then deciding to not play them in a must-win final at all.

It’s important to look for the positives.

But NOT in September 2021. You can't beat that one!

Second verse some as the first ...

Why do you follow the Dees if you're just going to lay [censored] on them?

Serious question, BTW.

I'm pretty sure @old55 was attempting to apply some levity to the situation. Some gallows humour so to speak (apt given we're chokers now).

Nothing wrong with that. I'd have a stab at a second verse myself only I'm not a creative type.

If we can't nail a top 2 spot, I honestly wouldn't mind finishing 5th next year (rather than 3rd or 4th) and approach the finals from a different angle.

We might go into an elimination final with far more urgency than the first quarter we showed against Collingwood this year or the overall lame effort against Sydney the prior year. Then the pressure got too much for us in the respective semi finals.

The club and coach will be the absolute laughing stock of the comp if we go out in straight sets 3 years in a row.

The unfortunate reality is this will overshadow everything else. The media will make sure of that. And it will add to an already high pressure environment that is finals.

I'm having a media-free holiday.

So, have they?

Or do you mean they'll save it until September and November (or wherever the women get thrown this time...) next year?

Spot on!

It's aching for a second verse, and there has been plenty of material, give it a try.

Look on the bright side. Atleast the media will get distracted and question the 'culture' of Melb'ne AFLW players instead of going after Goodwin and his players.

We should get left alone atleast till early new year.

The media hysteria over Carlton and Collingwood going for a flag in '24 should dwarf everything  thank heavens.

You think we'll be that lucky?

No mid season Sun  fullbackpage 'exclusive' about the private lives of Goodwin and Oliver or ongoing culture problems at MFC.

Haha i meant in terms of "the club is a failure"

Theyll be into us about culture until we win the flag

The press swooped in like a vulture

With questions about club culture

But we only had ourselves to blame

For not achieving premiership fame

A simple trick would have altered the team's fate

'Tis not a secret - just kick straight

I like the Hermits Hermits ending there… perhaps segué into his Mersey Beat compatriots, Freddie and the Dreamers with How Do You Do What You Do To Me.

More than that, most people have us missing the 8 entirely

Which is hilarious. Mainly Filth and Blues fans scared we will win it all instead of them.

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last
