If this comes to fruition, it would be our first ever round 1 game interstate that wasn't in Perth.

Strangely, we wouldn't have the following week off. Hopefully it will be the week before gather round as we look gassed in Adelaide last year.

That's what the article says. Question is whether this will count as one of our away fixtures or just add to the increasing tally.Ā

Here's an idea - play the Tigers, Carlton game interstate. Victoria will thank you for it.Ā

So the season gets longer by yetĀ another week?

Won't be any need for pre-season soon; Christmas Eve grand final, a split Christmas / New Year bye and on to the next season.

A voracious appetite, has the AFL...

Mind you, if it forced compression of the trade and draft period, that'd be a blessing...

And the only reason they can think of is that it pits Brodie against us.

Sheesh.

Does this mean we will get a second bye on the run home??Ā

The article says these four clubs (melb, syd, gws, coll) will get a early bye, we will be gassed by around r15 if this is to happen?Ā

I'd prefer the recent tradition of opening our season with a big win against the dogs at the G.Ā

I inferred that the 4 clubs would then go on to play in the second week (in the other clubs' 'Round 1'), have a compensating bye in the following weeks, then go on to also be part of the mid-season bye arrangements ( meaning, for MFC. as we know, a 9-day break between 2 interstate trips...)

Can’t open the link

Is it a sort Ā of pseudo-gather round as well as the one in Adelaide?

WTF are they not playing a full schedule? Ā Fans are desperate by the start of season. Ā  And won’t Tigers Blues be pi55d off not having their ā€œtraditional blockbuster trailblazing stupefying heart stopping etc etcā€ season opener? Ā

Mwahhahaha!

Send both of the C’s up there and leave us out of it.Ā
They earned/deserve it. šŸ‘

I guess it would guarantee a top 4 spot for the first week.Ā

That mid season bye scenario... from NT to QB and shorter breaks really derails our season,Ā  we need it equal to everyone else

figured the AFL would be thinking of new ways to [censored] the game up alreadyĀ

a bye in round 1/2 sounds very usefulĀ

Perhaps this has been dropped as a distraction from the fact there's SFA happening in trade week.Ā

NRL is playing matches in Las Vegas that weekend.Ā

If we play our first game interstate, doesn't it mean our last game is at home? I could certainly handle that.

Home game at the G please in round 35 or wherever we're up to

I like the idea. I like getting one of our road games done in Round 1, and I like getting some good prime time exposure.Ā

The article suggests that we’d play again in the second week, which sounds odd - won’t be a ā€œsplit roundā€ if we play twice in it.

Ā

Standalone game, great exposure, few days in Sydney for us fans. Bring it. Players get a free weekend in Round 1.Ā

Can't see the angst.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

Narrm time isn’t a standard concept—it’s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

  • AFLW REPORT: St. Kilda

The Dees demolished the Saints in a comprehensive 74-pointshellacking. Ā We filled our boots with percentage — now a whopping 520.7% — and sit atop the AFLW ladder. Melbourne’s game plan is on fire, and the competition is officially on notice.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's Ā six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.Ā
