If this comes to fruition, it would be our first ever round 1 game interstate that wasn't in Perth.

Strangely, we wouldn't have the following week off. Hopefully it will be the week before gather round as we look gassed in Adelaide last year.

Or GWS at whatever their stadium is called next year.

That's what the article says. Question is whether this will count as one of our away fixtures or just add to the increasing tally.

Here's an idea - play the Tigers, Carlton game interstate. Victoria will thank you for it.

So the season gets longer by yet another week?

Won't be any need for pre-season soon; Christmas Eve grand final, a split Christmas / New Year bye and on to the next season.

A voracious appetite, has the AFL...

Mind you, if it forced compression of the trade and draft period, that'd be a blessing...

And the only reason they can think of is that it pits Brodie against us.

Sheesh.

Does this mean we will get a second bye on the run home??

The article says these four clubs (melb, syd, gws, coll) will get a early bye, we will be gassed by around r15 if this is to happen?

I'd prefer the recent tradition of opening our season with a big win against the dogs at the G.

I inferred that the 4 clubs would then go on to play in the second week (in the other clubs' 'Round 1'), have a compensating bye in the following weeks, then go on to also be part of the mid-season bye arrangements ( meaning, for MFC. as we know, a 9-day break between 2 interstate trips...)

Can’t open the link

Is it a sort  of pseudo-gather round as well as the one in Adelaide?

WTF are they not playing a full schedule?  Fans are desperate by the start of season.   And won’t Tigers Blues be pi55d off not having their “traditional blockbuster trailblazing stupefying heart stopping etc etc” season opener?

Send both of the C’s up there and leave us out of it.
They earned/deserve it. 👍

I guess it would guarantee a top 4 spot for the first week.

That mid season bye scenario... from NT to QB and shorter breaks really derails our season,  we need it equal to everyone else

figured the AFL would be thinking of new ways to [censored] the game up already

a bye in round 1/2 sounds very useful

Perhaps this has been dropped as a distraction from the fact there's SFA happening in trade week.

I like the idea. I like getting one of our road games done in Round 1, and I like getting some good prime time exposure.

The article suggests that we’d play again in the second week, which sounds odd - won’t be a “split round” if we play twice in it.

Standalone game, great exposure, few days in Sydney for us fans. Bring it. Players get a free weekend in Round 1.

Can't see the angst.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the scorching morning heat to bring you the following observations of Wednesday's preseason training session from Gosch's Paddock. HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Demonland Trackwatchers were out in force as the Demons returned to Gosch's Paddock for preseason training on Wednesday morning. GHOSTWRITER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Kozzie a no show. Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. There’s a drill where Selwyn literally lies on top of Tracc, a trainer dribbles the ball towards them and Tracc has to g

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
