What evidence do you have that Petty isnโ€™t happy to stay and play for Melbourne?ย

Channel 7 Adelaide, Kane Cornes and John Ralph.

The sad part is that these clowns will be running the same story next year, like the WA media with Jackson and will annoy the [censored] out of us.

ย

I think we all know that when you strip away all of the [censored] and the red and blue glasses are taken off of our faces, itโ€™s pretty clear that Petty is going to end up at Adelaide this trade period.

What a shame - I really donโ€™t want to see him go

Butโ€ฆ

Thereโ€™s too much noise - simple.ย

Yeah, i tend to agree to be honest, I don't think this one is over.ย

if he does go i wouldn't sign off on less than 10, 14 and McAdam. if we're losing Petty lets at least make sure we get Harley Reid out of itย

6,10,11 should get the deal done you'd imagineย

Had a feeling this would be the case. Not a good sign if we are having breakfast with the enemy.

I just can't see us trading a young key position player without an adequate replacement.

Petty out means a backline of May, Lever and Tomlinson and a fwd line of JvR and hope that Brown or McDonald don't fall apart. Maybe fullarton.

We kiss any chance of a premiership success goodbye imo, he is that important.

We're only taking two picks to the draft anyway and I'm not sure pick 10 helps us get Reid.

Just because Adelaide want him doesn't mean we should bow to their wishes and shoot ourselves in the foot in the process.

I love Petty to bits, i want him to stay as do all us Demons, but I reckon Petty knows deep down he's one injury away from screwing his future up here.

Was the deal 5 years, 1m the first year then 800k the next four?

Will this offer be there for him in 1-2 years time? I don't reckon it will be. He's stated he wants to come back to Adelaide.

Im looking at this from a different lens here, I believe his Partner is from Adelaide? also if they want to start a family in the next 3-4 years his partners parents are going to be helping out part of the time would he get that help in Melbourne with no family? No way.

He is very injury prone, he was injured twice this year playing as a Forward, a significant history with injuries.

If he gets injured again his value will significantly drop from a draft point of view, if he's going to leave next year we won't see this deal again

If this offer from the Crows is Thilthorpe or Fogarty, Pick 10 and McAdam for Petty if it eventuates take it and run i say.

I'd even squeeze them for pick 14 aswell and throw in Neal Bullen or Chandler.

Problem is they won't give up either of those players. Both are from Adelaide and both are contracted. This is a massive free-kick to Adelaide if we let him walk.

Plus their original offer was pick 14 which was our pick. I don't even think we can legally receive that back. But if we can, they bought that from the Gold Coast Suns for two mid 20s picks. Petty is worth more than that. Particularly to us with limited key position depth.

I would only except on those terms.

If they want him that much they will come to the party.

We have tried for Fogarty before.

If we do this we will get Reid, plus a Forward Fogarty and McAdam.

That's a different conversation that I would probably be willing to accept.

Iโ€™m pretty sure Tigers fans would know

If we lost Petty for picks and are playing Fullarton every game itโ€™s rebuild time

mini rebuild. 4-5 top quality draft picks over two years then bang. or whimper. i dunno

I think this is the reason it hasn't been put to bed yet, we are seriously still contemplating this.

Petty is 23, is already at elite level at either end of the field and has his best years ahead of him. I know his current lisfranc problem is worrying but every AFL player runs the ever-present risk of injury. I am sure the club will be doing its best to tie him to a long-term contract by the end of next season. And if he has an outstanding season in 2024 he can stay with us and still demand the big bucks. Like any other outsider, I have no inside knowledge of his personal thoughts but I really hope he decides to become a one-club player. We missed him badly in the finals.ย

I stand corrected, Pennant St! I lived in Leinster for a bit but being a coffee drinker didn't take much notice.ย

No way do the deal for picks alone... must get a forward...

Fogarty and whatever picks give us pick 1 all tied up in the same deal..

So Crows get Petty

Dee's get Fogarty, Reidย

WCE get pick 6, 10,11

I'd prefer it stayed that way but its hard to fly under the radar when you are a premiership CHB at 21 and kick bags of goals when you go forward

I agree with you here. I think there's a bit to play out with this.

There is enough smoke out there to suggest that Petty has strongly considered returning home.ย

If he doesnโ€™t come out and ask for a trade then heโ€™s clearly very comfortable and committed to stay.ย

You don't need to be unhappy in wanting to go nor do you need to officially request a trade, Grundy never formally requested a trade from either Collingwood or Melbourne. Probably just simply wants to be closer to home which is a not an issue imo.

The fact that it still had to take Simon Goodwin to actually sit down with him and convince him otherwise suggest he's has had serious considerations.

WC: ..... Darling?

ย

Would you be tempted by 10, Adelaide F1 and McAdam for Petty.

Then 6, 10, 11 to WC for Reid and Darling.

I think this works from the clubโ€™s perspective as well as Harrisonโ€™s. They might never get this currency for Petts again.

For all the same reasons listed, it makes sense for both parties

I'd be very suprised if the offer was anything more than 10 + 20 + McAdam, which I don't think we accept. If fogarty or THRILLTHORPE are involved then you have to look at it, but I would be shocked if this is the case. That sort of trade just doesn't really happen. While we know how good Petty is, we are also likely undervaluing the potential of someone like thilthorpe in the same way other clubs and non-dees following media figures undervalue Petty.

ย

You donโ€™t trade very good players who are under contract at less than their worth unless you get a massive overs.

The draft is a lottery and good recruiting teams can find players without premium picks.ย

  • PREVIEW: Hawthorn

Hawthorn and Melbourne. Two teams with impressive form from last week but with seasons that are travelling on different trajectories meet in Saturdayโ€™s twilight game for what could well be the most intriguing contest of the AFLโ€™s penultimate round. Sadly, the game has been relegated to that unappealing time slot in the weekend when Melburnians are typically preoccupied with activities other than football. It falls between the morning's shopping, afternoon sport and recreation, and Saturday night fever. A time usually reserved for relatively insignificant events but this one is not a nothingburger for either of the clubs or their fans.

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterdayโ€™s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown andย  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.
