TED LASSO PHANTOM DRAFT FIRST ROUND 2024

Hi all,

I've put together a little phantom draft based on how i see the first round going, i have included some likely trades. Things can change rapidly and i am sure there will be additional pick swaps as well, but for a starting point the first round

Likely trades

  • Pick 8 to Stkilda as F/A compensation
  • Pick 6, 9, 10, 17 all to Richmond
  • Pick 12 to West Coast

1. Levi Ashcroft (Brisbane)
2. Jagga Smith (Richmond)
3. Luke Trainor (North Melbourne)
4. Finn O'Sullivan (West Coast)
5. Sid Draiper (Adelaide)
6. Harvey Langford (Melbourne)
7. Josh Smilie (Richmond)
8. Sam Lalor (St Kilda)
9. Murphy Reid (St Kilda)
10. Leo Lombard (Gold Coast) Matching Essendon Bid
11. Tobie Travaglia (Essendon)
12. Harry Armstrong (Richmond)
13. Jack Whitlock (Richmond)
14. TaJ Hotton (Carlton)
15. Bo Allen (West Coast)
16. Cooper Hynes (GWS)
17. joe Berry (Geelong)
18. Issac Kako (Essendon) Matching bid from Richmond
19. Alix Tauru (Richmond)
20. Xavier Lindsay (Sydney)

I'd be amazed if Langford fell to us.

This guy is pure silk - footy IQ and hands are off the charts.

Will his lack of size and explosiveness hurt him at AFL level, or will his smarts help him overcome those limitations?

If we can somehow manage to get to a point where we have two picks in the first 15, it would be very handy.

This has to be the aim

Can we package our 2nd rounder (~pick 27) with ANB Crows pick (~25) for pick 14?

The crows want ANB but they don't need him.  I can't see us getting very high picks for him.

The crows coaching staff and footy department need ANB or other senior players or they’ll be out of their jobs come next September.

The issue is we’ve given up a lot of leverage if a deal isn’t already done.

Good post. You have us taking Langford at 6 - big ball winner.. He seems to be one of the few players who has wideish differing opinions. Cal Twomey has him at3, Rookie me at 10 and ESPN at 10.

ESPN and rookie me have athletic profile queries.

Cal and Rookie have Reid at 6 , ESPN Smillie at 7 (Ashcroft and Lombardi top 5.)

As you said it will all change.

Worth remembering Cal Twomey's Sept 2023 phantom form guide had Windsor at pick 14 and his prior two versions not even in the top 20 prospects.

In JT we trust....

Agree, it will all change. Players flying late will move up. We all enjoy the discussions, especially holding pick 5 and maybe a trade up into the top 20.

He is a good footballer but not sure that highlights package translates to AFL level tbh

Lots of dinky kicks and handballs over his head (granted many do hit the target) - personally I still think Langford is a better option if he is still an option at our first pick

Reid looks more like a slightly faster version of Spargo to me

And his November phantom draft had the first 7 picks correct including Dees getting Windsor.  Twomey has very good intel and once it gets close to the draft , we will watch his predictions closely.

Agree watch him closely as it get toward November and he hears club rumours but JT has a habit of not picking to the norm.

I’m also a little on the fence about him, terrific stats and year, concerned how he fares at AFL level with a lot more congestion and bigger bodies.

A lot of times he would be killing his teammates with handball at AFL level

What I do like about this guy is his vision and reaction time. There is a bit of dink and dunk but he finds that option extremely quickly, bit like Salo.

do they really move up late ? the phantom drafts shift once more knowledge comes out on who is picking who. not sure one extra game at the end shifts the clubs thinking that much.

Really surprised that Luke Kennedy isn’t spoken about more as a bargain draft pick. Plays like Andrew Brayshaw.  Can win it close. Can run and spread.  Tackles.  Smart user of the footy. Has really showed his ability in last few games with 30+ possession games and impact. He’s alongside a star studded Dragons midfield but definitely holds his own.

Dandenong Stingrays play Gippsland power today in the quarter finals at 2pm.

This match will feature a bunch of current Melbourne NGA listed players in Tairon Ah-Mu, Riak Andrew and Marcus Prasad (underage) from the Dandenong Stingray.

Gippsland will have Ricky Mentha running around for the Power.

This will also feature potential top 5 propsect Harvey Langford and Cooper Hynes who's expected to go somewhere inside top 20.

Agree DD36. I can only get to see a few minutes streamed today but try to catchup during the week.  Obviously Hynes and Langford should dominate and will watch them closely.

Unfortunately for the Power, their skipper Xavier Lindsay is injured and will miss the rest of 2024. He is an elite ball user across midfield or halfback and plays like Josh Kelly. Should be drafted pick 9-12 in my view. He might be the player the Dees try to trade the future 1st round 2025 to get access to a second first round pick this year.

App’s good for the live streams and game day stats (although they take a bit of time to go up).

Will try and navigate parental duties and lob over to watch.

Sam Lalor unfortunately absent for GWV against Geelong (playing now). He got a pretty bad corkie in the first half of their win last week, guessing it didn’t come good.
