They’d have to embrace being a second option but there’s no way Gawn gets through seasons healthy anymore. He’s not even healthy now! It’s different than sitting behind a 27 year old ruck who’s not going anywhere for years to come.

Max said himself on Gus and Gawny that he won't make 250 games.  There's an understudy role there but not for a 29yo like Grundy.

still think everything changes if the afl changes from 4 + sub on the bench to simply 5 on the bench

my mfcss convinces me that we'll trade grundy out and then the latter will be implemented; especially so given that that was the original plan and i remain convinced it was us trading grundy it that made sure it didn't happen

Teakle has been cut by Port, Free swing at a guy for a packet of chips.  has played the level and not completely useless.  Worth it even if he never gets a game

Any young, developing ruck with good management should look at 2 years learning under Gawn, then being the main man from 2026 onwards, as being the golden ticket for ruckmen.

At the very least you can do what Preuss did and use the apprenticeship as leverage elsewhere.

The way Max was attacked this season he may not have two good years left in him

I would hate to roll the dice and not have a permanent back up

My vote is for Chol.

Particularly if GC are contemplating rolling in pick 4 to Adelaide (as mooted) for a return of a teens pick and a couple of others, so they can offload the salary. Grundy’s departure nicely opens up some space for that, which we’re unlikely to use on a FA this year.

Yep. it's a no brainer if pick 4 is on the table. even if it's not, he's a key forward who can make an impact in the ruck

I was surprised last year we didn't try to roll Lobb into the Jackson deal somehow

I'm also in the Chol camp. Pick 4 and Chol for three of our picks. He can play forward and in the ruck, so it makes sense.

Why not just use Josh Schache. He is probably a better and more experience forward-ruck backup option than the other names suggested.

According to his draft camp he also “has top-end endurance for a player of his size (he runs a 14.1 beep test) and he works over his opponents.”

Maybe that’s why we extended his contract?

Not competitive enough, lacks hardness. Break glass only to get the hammer to then break glass only

I really like the look of Will Verral who missed the early season with a stress fracture. He would be my choice for the understudy he has more upside than Teakle imo. As the back up a more mature body who doesn't mind being 2nd fiddle. Tom campbell has filled this roll at 3 clubs now. Another rumour was the club  considering whether they develop Roo as a forward ruck option not a key position, only a rumour though.

The Power announced three other list changes this week but ruck duo Scott Lycett and Sam Hayes are yet to re-sign with the club, with Port Adelaide also interested in Richmond premiership player Ivan Soldo

Matt Flynn and Braydon Preuss – are out of contract and could land at new homes during October's trade period.

Jordon Sweet has already requested a trade to Port Adelaide, Todd Goldstein is expected to depart Arden Street for Essendon, while Gettable reported last month Matt Flynn has been pursued by West Coast this year.

DELISTED Port Adelaide tall Brynn Teakle is on the radar of a few clubs who are searching for a back-up ruckman this off-season.

The 23-year-old was cut by the Power on Tuesday following six games after arriving at Alberton via the 2022 Mid-Season Rookie Draft.

North Melbourne, Greater Western Sydney and the Western Bulldogs have all expressed interest in the West Australian as they prepare for ruckmen to depart during next month's trade period.

Someone wake Kelly O’Donnell up from his sleep and let him know we need the Teakle

Verrall is a long term option, perfect number 3 right now.

Need a number 2. Ideally 23-25 years old with multiple preseasons under his belt

JVR played most of his games as the back up this year. I like that it gets him in the game and around the ball. Long term he should end up a forward only.

Agree with this.  In my view they don't have to be a great disposer of the ball but they need to be able to compete in the air.  Our game plan (as per most teams) revolves around kicking long to our ruckman when there isn't another option.  I'm not sure whether I have faith in a guy like Schache to who has the skills but not the size or presence.

No from me to Mabior Chol. Half decent forward but definitely not a good enough ruckman. He’s a bit of a ‘tweener’. I’d also be wary of anyone Hardwick has tried to offload from TWO clubs.

Yes from me, any ruckman who has aspirations to be a number 1 ruck anytime soon isn't going to join us after the Grundy fail. Chol is competent enough which is all you need, certainly an upgrade on Tmac and Schace.

Wouldn't worry too much about the hardwick thing he was behind Nankervis and Soldo in ruck and lynch and reiwolt as a forward. I understand he would want out and not play again for hardwick.

Chol is at least athletic enough to be a better than zero when it hits the deck when forward.

We don’t need a number 1 ruck, we’ve already got one (didn’t we just learn that?). We need a competent back up ruckman.

He sounds ideal in the TMac up the ground role

Even as a tall winger

What really dissappoints me is his lack of presence and physicality.

Feed him up and tell him he is the new Hawkins?
