JT doesn’t  move unless he sees a talent worth moving for. His track record is worth trusting.

Don’t think he’s been wrong yet.

Weideman is the example trotted out, but his pick was the relative steak knives in the deal with primary target being Oliver.

Even back in the Brayshaw/Petracca draft, we tried to move Trengove for Lever.

Well yeah.. it's purely to bank picks for next year so that we have options for any trades next year or just extra options for the draft in general

It also cost us Adam Cerra because we didn't have a first round pick to satisfy Fremantle as we used it to trade up the previous year.

Cerra wanted to play for the Dees but we simply had no draft asset.

Zac Butters and Ben King are out of contract next year. Trade our future 1st on Monday night and you can kiss goodbye any attempts of nabbing either of these two.

I can't see Butters leaving, but Ben King could, with Walter coming in and Lukocious forward.

King is not a Dimma type player imo. He likes them to hurt.

Can't be getting into the defeatist mentality that Petty is gone.

A lot can change in 12 months and don't forget he's still contracted to 2025.

Probably Freo’s then F1 which looked like it could be in the teens, with scant chance of it being close to top 10.

Pick 15 (2022), pick 6 and 14 2023 for picks 5 and 23 (?) In 2022

Not sure what you mean here. The Weideman draft and Cerra leaving Fremantle were six years apart.

We missed out on pick #9 Will Brodie in 2016 (instead of Weideman pick #9 2015) and traded picks that got us Jake Bowey and Bailey Laurie in 2020 for pick 25 in 2020 and pick 20 in 2021. 

We MIGHT have been able to land Cerra by offering picks 19 and 20 in 2021, but that most likely wouldn't have been accepted and we'd also have no JVR in this alternative scenario.

And yes, you're right about the JVR situation. I suppose it's a 50/50 risk vs reward type scenario. 

With the amount of stars that are out of contract next I simply would nor be trading out a future first round pick purely to get a 170cm small forward where it's not even a glaring need for us.

Keep pick 6 and take the outside speedy talent in Windsor which we severely lack in terms of depth and class.

I think our next best option to at least improve our forward half is pocket rocket Nick Watson.

He's a 170cm small forward but don't be put off his height. The kid has some serious X factor and star factor. 

Last year he was pigeon-holed as a small forward, so recruiters wanted to see what his midfield capabilities were like. Didn't take him long until the Coates League round 3 against Northern Knights where he announced himself quickly that he's got the tools to step up and play midfield.

He had 34 disposals and kicked 2.3 in a complete dominant display. His numbers this year play as a high half forward/midfield have been incredibly strong. There has been comparisons to Nick Daicos when he's playing around the midfield with his ability to hit pin point passes and also weave his way in and out of traffic.

Not counting his championship games where he once again dominated especially his game against WA where he had 13 disposals and kicked 5 goals playing purely as a forward pocket and then another 4 goals against Vic Country.

His ability to play at a high level throughout his junior level and consistency is elite. 

If we were to pick him I can easily see a round 1 debut. X factor, speed, tackling pressure and ability to hit the scoreboard.

The kozzie/Wizard combo would generate some genuine excitement within fans and he's got that real strut and arrogance (in a good way) in the same way as a Tom Papley and Hayden Ballantyne which I think we've genuinely lacked over the years.

Yeah I'm not sold on Laurie. Just more making the point that all the future trading hasn't really bitten us yet. Most have worked in our favour. 

My main concern would be F1 actually being a good pick next year. We have been up for a while and should be up for longer, but the competition is so even that some teams are going to drop next year. It might be us. For me those late round firsties (15-18) aren't very valuable with the way the draft works these days but there are no guarantees F1 becomes one of those.

I absolutely love the idea of Watson being a Papley-style antagonist at the Punt Road End and hope we can get him in one way or another. Seems like Windsor is our man though.
