He is ranked second of all rucks over the second half of the year. How much would he cost in trade now. Gawn was a no name ruck until he wasn’t. They just take time but they are hard to pick. This year there are available emerging but unproven rucks in Flynn, Hayes and Teakle. I am sure one of them can both do the job and maybe under Max could become the next Briggs.

I like Hayes, just worry about his tank which is poor.

Best case scenario to get Harley Reid.

Assuming North Melbourne get Pick 3 compensation for McKay.

Melbourne trade Grundy to Sydney

Sydney trade Pick 31 to Adelaide & Pick 42 to Melbourne

Adelaide trade McAdam to Melbourne.

Melbourne trade Picks 14, 25, 33 & 42 to Gold Coast

Gold Coast trade Pick 5 & Chol to Melbourne.

Melbourne trade Pick 5 (from Gold Coast), future 1st Round Pick, Harmes & Tomlinson to North Melbourne

North Melbourne trade Pick 2 & 60 (points for potential Brown F/S bid) to Melbourne

Melbourne trade Pick 2 (from North) & Pick 6 to West Coast

West Coast trade Pick 1 & future 2nd or 3rd Round Pick.

We'll also be a chance for band 5 compensation for Jordon leaving as a Free Agent I reckon being approx Pick 53.

Bugger Reid, we need to acquire as many first round picks as possible

At the start I was all in for Reid.

I've now changed my tune and think if we are able to accumulate some first round picks we then hit the draft and top up with fresh talent. Our list profile is now starting to get on and we've gotta be willing to not only up with talent but also remain in contention

Let's be honest, we're not a getting a established key forward in the trade period so might as well just focus on get some elite young talent through while we can.

Is it realistic that we get 11 from Sydney?

Perhaps if the rumours about their interest in Harmes are true, we could bundle Grundy and Harmes for 11

Our first four picks are locked in prior to the trade/fa period and any potential North compensation.

We have: 5, 13, 24 and 32

Given many have said the draft drops off after about 30, that's a solid hand. Plus whatever we get for Grundy. And we ha e a very late pick should it be needed for Brown.

I wonder what we will give up for McAdam? Part of the Grundy trade? A future pick?

Edited by Stiff Arm

Add pick 29 from Sydney for Grundy although we may do a deal for their pick 11 and we pass on a later pick.

Only way I can see is getting pick 11 as part of the Grundy deal is if it’s a swap with pick 13.  Pick 30 & 11 for Grundy and 13.
Would be about right too. But pick 22 is a fair trade as well.

I cant see us straight up getting 11 for Grundy and Harmes as steak knives doesn't help. I could see them swapping their first pick for our pick (moving up 2 spots) as well as obtaining their pick 22.

Denver Grainger Barras is available if we wanted some KPD cover in the event that Tommo leaves.

And save at least $1.2M if not more next year and Grundy's $650k going forward.

Then with 5, 11 and with 13 and later picks to trade with, we could get 3 picks inside top 11 and really add some talent.

This is a real once in a blue moon chance, to get multiple high end players.

Just saw his stats are below average everywhere, except goal kicking accuracy. That must be why he is available.

Still he is light and with more muscle that could all change.

Agree with this! 😎👍

Lots of young potential talent we can draft and nurture for the near future.

Having as many draft picks in the top 20 is ideal. Especially, if Angus Brayshaw is forced to retire due to his concussion injuries.

We also need to take into account what will happen to Brodie Grundy as well as the futures of Tom McDonald and Ben Brown. We also need to find a replacement for Michael Hibberd who has announced his retirement.

Anyway, I have listed them previously, but there's a lot of young talent out there that I am sure Jason Taylor and the MFC recruiting team are looking at.

This includes the following:

● Colby McKercher (midfielder)

● Zane Duursma (midfielder/forward)

● Nate Caddy (forward who could also play midfield)

● Ryley Sanders (midfielder)

● Nick Watson (forward/midfielder)

● Connor O'Sullivan (key defender)

● Ollie Murphy (key defender)

● Darcy Wilson (midfielder)

● George Stevens (midfielder)

● Riley Hardeman (running defender)

● Archie Roberts (running defender)

● Koltyn Tholstrup (forward/midfielder)

● Archer Reid (key forward)

● Will Green (ruckman)

It all just depends upon wants and needs.

So there's plenty to choose from.

Even Hawks fans are trying to offload the kid.

I can't see anyone trading for him, maybe if he gets delisted he might get another opportunity.

Yeh i agree with this as well, I don't think our forward half issues will be fixed in one offseason, if we manget to get some good picks this year i would be loading up with as much talent as possible.

Kids like Rivers, Bowey, McVee, Sparrow have lifted our game but it would be good some more top end talent to really keep pushing and target some FAs over the next few years to fill the holes

Key needs

May replacement, this is an absolute key. I'm worried about losing Tomlinson.

Brayshaw replacement if it's a second rounder.

Outside/Inside class in the vein of Horne-Francis x 2.

New winger/s (maybe Howes and/or Woewodin)

I'd be transitioning our game away from relying on a dominant ruckman. We just need a beast who competes and can take the odd mark.

Funnily enough I think a forward half of Petty, JVR, Fritsch, McAdam, Pickett and Petracca is fantastic. I really hope we're training this all preseason.

It's funny isn't it, so much attention comes onto our forward line, but if they can actually get on the park it should be solid at worst, and very good at best.

It's the midfield depth / class & the question mark over who is actually going to be the third pillar next to May & Lever next year, which are bigger issues.

I'd actually be keeping Tomlinson and telling him it's his spot to lose unless a Turner or an Adams comes out and has the pre-season of a lifetime, but I don't think Goody rates Tommo.

Neither Turner or Adams are big enough to cover May, Tomlinson is.

Goodwin will have no choice, if Petty becomes our permanent FF.

Definitely need pace and elite kicks in the midfield/flank.

Petty going forward exposes us to a big risk down back with Steven May. Add in Tomlinson leaving and the risk approaches critical.

Tough one

Must recruit a key defender

Trouble is they will languish in the VFL until needed. Bulldogs have an immediate need so an almost there key defender would go to a club like that.

A draftee is probably two years minimum from being ready

Not  sure how you solve it

Sullivan is ready to go it appears

Thanks... He looks like going mid to late first round. Are we prepared to spend that much I wonder

  • GAMEDAY: Geelong

It's Game Day, and reinforcements are finally arriving for the Demons—but will it be too little, too late? They're heading down the freeway to face a Cats side returning home to their fortress after two straight losses, desperate to reignite their own season. Can the Demons breathe new life into their campaign, or will it slip even further from their grasp?

  • PREVIEW: Geelong

"It's officially time for some alarm bells. I'm concerned about the lack of impact from their best players." This comment about one of the teams contesting this Friday night’s game came earlier in the week from a so-called expert radio commentator by the name of Kane Cornes. He wasn’t referring to the Melbourne Football Club but rather, this week’s home side, Geelong. The Cats are purring along with 1 win and 2 defeats and a percentage of 126.2 (courtesy of a big win at GMHBA Stadium in Round 1 vs Fremantle) which is one win more than Melbourne and double the percentage so I guess that, in the case of the Demons, its not just alarm bells, but distress signals. But don’t rely on me. Listen to Cornes who said this week about Melbourne:- “They can’t run. If you can’t run at speed and get out of the contest then you’re in trouble.

  • NON-MFC: Round 04

Round 4 kicks off with a blockbuster on Thursday night as traditional rivals Collingwood and Carlton clash at the MCG, with the Magpies looking to assert themselves as early-season contenders and the Blues seeking their first win of the season. Saturday opens with Gold Coast hosting Adelaide, a key test for the Suns as they aim to back up their big win last week, while the Crows will be looking to keep their perfect record intact. Reigning wooden spooners Richmond have the daunting task of facing reigning premiers Brisbane at the ‘G and the Lions will be eager to reaffirm their premiership credentials after a patchy start. Saturday night sees North Melbourne take on Sydney at Marvel Stadium, with the Swans looking to build on their first win of the season last week against a rebuilding Roos outfit.
Sunday’s action begins with GWS hosting West Coast at ENGIE Stadium, a game that could get ugly very early for the visitors. Port Adelaide vs St Kilda at Adelaide Oval looms as a interesting clash, with both clubs form being very hard to read. The round wraps up with Fremantle taking on the Western Bulldogs at Optus Stadium in what could be a fierce contest between two sides with top-eight ambitions. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?

  • CASEY: Gold Coast

For a brief period of time in the early afternoon of yesterday, the Casey Demons occupied top place on the Smithy’s VFL table. This was only made possible by virtue of the fact that the team was the only one in this crazy competition to have played twice and it’s 1½ wins gave it an unassailable lead on the other 20 teams, some of who had yet to play a game.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

In my all-time nightmare game, the team is so ill-disciplined that it concedes its first two goals with the courtesy of not one, but two, fifty metre penalties while opening its own scoring with four behinds in a row and losing a talented youngster with good decision-making skills and a lethal left foot kick, subbed off in the first quarter with what looks like a bad knee injury.
