It's the way we are finishing games that is the gamechanger for me this year. Finals are about who is toughest for the longest and as opposed to last year when we were hobbling off the field our guys look like they could play another game then and there.

In regards to the defensive indicators, there have been times and yesterday in particular where we've conceded a few marks inside 50 and there is a threat that things could go to bits but more often that not that defensive unit has managed to sort themselves out and get back to killing the danger and relieving the pressure by hitting a target. If they give up a goal, no problem, ithey put it  behind them and it's about the next contest.

It would be almost perfect if we had Petty out there and losing Melksham is a bummer but nothing goes perfect for anyone in a premiership campaign. We will back our selection and whoever comes in to do the job. Perfection is not required, doing your role is.

Like Big Kev, I'm excited!

Without wanting to get ahead this is probably what excites me.

He'll be like a brand new recruit inside our forward 50 and I have already tipped that if he has an injury free year he'll kick over 50 goals next season.

Time to change that flight! 😅

I'm a touch annoyed about the Thursday night but I guess it makes some sense that all other games have teams travelling and interstate travel on a weeknight would be very difficult for those fans.

We have to be happy to have a final in Melbourne when we finished 4th. Let's GO Dees!!!

no can do unfortunately. i never thought for a second this would be scheduled for a thurs night.

I have made sure no further travel for the rest of September.

My understanding is the highest ranked team hosts the Friday night prelim.

If Collingwood beat us, they will host the Friday night prelim.

If we beat Collingwood, Brisbane (or Port) host the Friday night and we get the Saturday prelim.

Either we’ll be playing the Saturday prelim should we get there.

So Port get a 6 day break if they lose and we beat the Pies?

This is illustrated by Petracca's final quarters the last 2 months. Maybe its the extra time spent up forward but watch him fly from contest to contest at the end of games.  He is absolutely in peak condition.

I've said it before, we are a great team but we simply go to another level of dominance if he kicks well. When he finds targets inside 50 or the goals that's 4-8 half chances other players don't and cant create.  Unfortunately it's pretty random right now.

Its a nonsense Have a great game guys

There have been Thursday finals for a while now. Richmond (1) played Hawthorn (4)  on a Thursday in 2018 and our elimination final against the Cats was on the Friday.

Thursday night is a huge hassle for interstate supporters.

Yep. I’ll have to take 2 days off work to go.

After the heartbreak of missing out in 2021 because of Covid, I’m just happy to be able to go!

Thursday sucks but for finals I’ll make it happen.

For those of you that are old fashioned like me and have a swipe card to get into games your barcode will be on the bottom of the card.

Great to know.  Getting a little nervous, because I still haven't received an email from the club on this.  I'm not sure why it couldn't have been ready and sent either Sunday or as soon as the AFL anouced their finals fixture this morning - or is it a matter of waiting for the ticket sellers to setup the link on thier site? (Which I'm still not sure why it couldn't be really as soon as the AFL makes their announcement.)

Surprised there's not a lot of pushback from cfc. They usually get what they want

on the Thursday night aspect? I think it is well known that we don't have enough die hard supporters willing to turn up on a Thursday night. I wouldn't be surprised if this is what Collingwood actually wanted to get the crowd advantage.

We just have to turn up. It is that simple.

Yep the Thursday night.

We usually get a good number to the Anzac game. That's a Thursday isn't it?

I don't get to many as I live interstate.

Not opposed to the idea but given cfc were minor premiers they should bet the premier time slot, which is Friday.

Yeah that is really a peculiar outcome. I would have thought they had significant influence on the decision to host it on Thursday night. And really the only factors would be how to maximise crowd advantage and recovery. The other not so obvious factor would be for the additional recovery for the team that loses and will likely play on Friday night the following week.

Also why does the loser of 1v4 play winner of 5v8 ? I would have thought that bracket should be playing the winner 6v7, given.

Yeah well said Jaded. I'm also reminding myself that it beats having to fork out for flights somewhere.

  • Thank You Simon Goodwin

As Demon fans, we’ve ridden a rollercoaster of emotions over the decades; the heartbreaks, the near misses, the wooden spoons, and the endless waiting. But through it all, we clung to hope. And then came Simon Goodwin. Before he ever wore red and blue, he was a champion in his own right. A five-time All-Australian, two-time Best and Fairest, and two-time premiership hero and Captain with Adelaide, Simon Goodwin was always destined to lead. When he transitioned from the field to the coach's box, first as an assistant at Essendon, he began shaping a new legacy.

  • PREVIEW: Western Bulldogs

Long ago and far away, the Melbourne Football Club replaced its coach in difficult circumstances after the team suffered a devastating loss. In the aftermath, I penned the following words: “Then came the politics, the intrigue, the axing, the sound of the football world laughing at a club, the circling of the media vultures, the reinvention of history, the anger, the irony, the pathos, the hurt on the face of the president, the dignified departure of the coach, and the determination of the newly appointed caretaker.” Today, we’re back in the same place although one difference here is that the coach who was terminated this time is Simon Goodwin, the man who four years ago

  • REPORT: West Coast

The Charles Dickens novel, A Tale of Two Cities, opens with, “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, …”  This phrase highlights many of the significant challenges that humanity encounters in life, ranging from experiencing remarkable highs to living in times of despair. This is a concept that should resonate with all supporters of the Melbourne Football Club this morning as they reflect on its comprehensive 83-point victory over the struggling West Coast Eagles at Marvel Stadium. The outcome proved beyond doubt that they are the worst of clubs and that we are the best of the worst.
