When do we expect the fixture to be realised? It's normally out this time but the AFL in its wisdom fixtured a game at 6:10pm AEST on a Sunday night...

The AFL loves a [censored] fixture. They think they’re soooo clever 🙄

Apologies if covered already.

Win puts us into a Prelim and will face one of Brisbane, Port, St Kilda or Giants.

Lose and we play the winner of Carlton vs Sydney in a Semi

Fuggin shocking state of affairs at the minute, AFL no integrity whatsoever.

You are barking up the wrong tree mate. Save your breath please.

As long as both teams competing get about the same time to prepare that's even that's all that matters really.

If we lose it will give us 24 hrs refresh more than Blues or Giants if we play a Semi Final in week 2.

So please chill and take a pill!!

Two of the AFL’s darlings playing each other. How will Gil rig this to get both Sydney and Carlton into the grand final? 🙄

My 8yo will want to go, no way will he be right for school the next day by the time we get home and he unwinds and goes to bed around 1130pm (if we're lucky).

Slap in the face to the top 4 teams and their supporters having it on Thursday instead of Friday night.

At the start of the year the afl said they listened to supporters and wouldn't schedule past 7.20 ... slowly, slowly they mislead us as the crowds have come back

We've got plenty of time to prepare for the match it's hardly a short break. As some have posted, if we don't win it's better that we have more time to prepare for the SF than our opposition.

If we lose we'll get the Friday SF then then a Saturday PF. Two 8 day breaks.

If we win - flag in the bag baby!

I don't know about the chill pill @58er Friday Night would have been sufficient for everyone and both Filth and Dees players, staff etc would have been ok with it.

Anyway lets just get on with it.

Just lucky we didn’t cop a concussion today. You’d be frothing at the mouth if we lost Trac to one and had 11 days to play the Pies.

This might already have been said, but the AFL could avoid our game being on a Thursday night by not having a Thursday night and having a Sunday game instead.

Play us on the Friday, Carl v Syd on the Saturday alongside Brisbane v Port, and St Kilda v GWS on the Sunday.

What is the rationale for Thursday night? It’s the effing finals, you are going to get blockbuster ratings, just put it on the bloody weekend. No chance for a lot of people to make it to the game.

It'd absolutely stupid and making things unnecessarily difficult. How did we end up with this garbage day and timeslot?

Because channel 7 has Gil by the balls is how. They want 3 nights of prime time TV.

Either way, I won’t be going to work on Friday 8th. Will be drinking in the glory or drowning my sorrows 🥶

Does that mean us or Collingwood would host a Saturday prelim to play what's most likely Port who are locked in to Saturday Night semi?

Whereas the Friday night semi between Coll v Carlton would then end up meeting the Lions in a prelim at the Gabba on a Friday Night?

To have him by the short and curlies is an understatement but hey who wouldn't want more Prime time BT wisdom after all?

Oh taking the day off the next day is a must now. No chance at all rocking in on Friday after all that emotion. Still a pain in the butt and will have to try to nick off early as well. Finals timeslots need adequate breathing space, they let us down.

I would’ve thought PF#1 would be Friday night, but let’s worry about that when the time is right.

Thursday Night games in finals are ridiculous & need to go for Sunday Arvo first week of finals.

The way it should be structured is:

1 v 4 Fri Night

5 v 8 Sat Arv

2 v 3 Sat Night

6 v 7 Sun Arv

• Qualifying finals teams should always get rewarded with prime time slots.

• 1st should always get the right to be the Friday night game.

• Teams with the double chance should always get rewarded with an extra days rest over elimination final winners.

• If it’s fine for teams to play on the Sunday & then back up on the Saturday the next week during the H&A season, then it’s fine to do so in finals.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
