With the sad news of Petty combined with his injury history it’s not out of the realm of possibility this move forward isn’t permanent especially if Jefferson emerges.

As someone who doesn’t watch any VFL at all I just wanted to get a gage from the guys who know a bit more than me. How long is he away from the AFL ? How good will he eventually be ? Is he more of a full forward or centre half forward ? etc …

Discuss.

IMHO he will be at least the year after next, very light frame. Takes a good mark at the highest point. Decent kick and skills but yet to impose himself on any game I've seen. I do worry about his level of attack on the contest, but that may come as he gets more confidence in his body. Been a more traditional inside 50 forward in his junior days and this year from what I've seen

He is one to two hundred burgers short of a run in the seniors.
Needs a good pre season to be a chance to get a game next year IMO. Could still be two seasons away.
Developing nicely and should stay on this path.

JVR was far more physically ready last year and still didn’t play when everyone else was slowly dying. I reckon Jefferson is far less likely to been seen in 2023.

How is his attack on the ball?

The good thing about JVR is that he loves the 'body on body clattering'. Some others just don't have it in their DNA. We need players who thrive on the contest.

I'm sure they're getting in his ear right now saying that if he builds his body and works hard then there will be opportunities next year.

I know key position players take longer... but I don't think anyone saw McVee playing all games this time last year.  Big summer for Jefferson coming up!

For a slight KPF his attack on the ball in the air is very impressive.

What? We just signed him on for a further two years.

So we gave him a contract extension so we can delist him?

He’s put on a bit of size recently but still has further to go adding more muscle to his frame. He’s developing as expected for a first year skinny tall. He’s shown he reads the ball really well in the air, contests aggressively in the air and is sound overhead. Decent kick and agility once it hits the deck. He just needs more time to develop.

No chance of debuting in the next few weeks, but I expect we’ll see him at some stage next year, especially if we have injuries.

If JVR couldn't get a game last season with half the team running on fumes then he is no chance this season.

Apparently JVR was minutes away from playing in the elimination final but Gawny was declared fit.

Sitting near the bench in that game, with Gawn popping painkillers like candy, nobody in a Melbourne jumper looked fit to me. It was a complete nightmare.

Agreed. Have no issues with his courage in the air. He won't be a big bodied key forward, but more in the vein of a Jarrad Waite type player I think.

He's not going to be a quick entry like JVR, different body altogether.

If all went 100% right I could see him maybe sneaking in a game or two near the end of next season but I'd be thinking 2025 is his year.

The question should be, who's the next McVee? Or the next Bowey?

The team seems to bring a star player out of nowhere every year.

Oh wait maybe it will be Harley Reid.... Sorry wrong thread.
