Went out on a limb did steve on Sam, who was a top 10 draft pick.

Sammy still has to play 13 games to play more AFL games than Omac, who went at pick 53.

Should get there. But I wouldn’t put my house on it.

Our biggest lost in 15 rounds is 15 points. We get no credit for being in games so consistently. Why’s that? Because we’ve been doing it for 3 solid years.

Footy commentators hate consistency. Gives them no story to blow out of proportion.

I've noticed that too.  I expect it makes it easier for the umpire to get clear of the ruckmen, but it must make some difference to the players as the ball isn't coming vertically down now.

As for the failed bounces, my beef is the inconsistency of recalling it.  Of all the things the umpires can reasonably be excused for not being consistent (due the difficult nature of the game), this would be the easiest to get consistent.

Since the AFL hasn't explained why the ball is not bounced after a 666 infringement, I think we can expect the bounce to disappear within a few years unless there is a strong protest.

While no one would argue that our forward-line looks like a well-oiled machine, we're still third for points scored this year, and with a better defensive record than the two teams ahead of us. And it's not like our mids are contributing all that much, bar Petracca in a hybrid role. Gawndy have been good for 20 (many of those as part of our forward set up), and Viney and Sparrow have together chipped in about 15. Reality is, our forwards have kicked a lot of goals this year between them. I suppose one needs to consider i50 conversion, but that's a function of our game plan.

I now realise that it's a very difficult feat to perform (a possible disincentive for potential new umpires) and I think there are too many dud bounces needing to be recalled which spoils the flow of play.

I doubt that, before too long, we'd even notice it was gone if the umpires simply threw the ball up (just like they do everywhere else on the ground).

I'm definitely not going into bat for Josh Jenkins as i don't think I've ever heard him say anything special as an analyst.

However, he's not wrong on a few things:

• With Petty's injury, the forward line IS still a question mark.  I'm not overly concerned as 2021 showed that if the other parts of our game are in check then that's more important.  We've got a few weeks to work out if its Smith / Grundy / BBB / Tmac.
• Brisbane had us on toast.  However they have since lost Ashcroft and we will still get Oliver and Fritsch back - and more importantly, we found a way.

The mainstream footy media love the knee jerk reactions (and anyone with opposing views to generate debate) but the reality is the finals are still a few weeks away - watch whoever wins in our match this week become the number 1 favourite next week.

Collingwood are still favourites for the flag at most venues, so one could also contend he is following the pack tho.  His concerns are no more than what's written here on these pages daily.

I'd be happy with a bounce to start every quarter then thrown up at all other times.

Just make sure they throw the ball up, not up and in front of the ump by 5 meters so they don't need to exit the space. Might as well get a boundary umpire to throw it up instead.

We should of beat Brisbane earlier in the last quarter. We kicked 4.5 to 1.1. Could easily have kicked 7.2. Some easy misses

But what do you think he might have said about the pies if they had come from 5 goals down with 7 mins to go?

Tbat was a seriously impressive win - stronger for longer and massive belief.

In fact we might look back at that win as a critical step in out journey to a flag - one because of the belief it instilled (do we hold of the crows the next week if we lose that match?) and two it may well end up being the reason we play the lions week one of the finals at the g not the gabba.

And speaking of the crows, seems bizarre given he played for them, that Jenkins didn't even mention our win over them. The following week they hammered port!

And the tigers had the second highest team rating for a losing team all season (thanks dd). Thst was also a very impressive win.
