Thought the forward line worked a hell of a lot better not everyone flew at once at least and tried to move around so at least some signs of something different it was a damm good game to watch with some frustrating disposals from ANB and Harmes but overall a better game game to see them move the ball around in general play.  Unfortunately Gawn is a solo ruckman so where that leaves Grundy as a ruckman i don't know but he is back to great form.

Just keep playing like that and with a bit of luck one never knows.

I certainly don't wish him into retirement. Sadly though, his best football is behind him and at Casey all he is doing is keeping out a young player with possible potential. Van Rooyen, Petty, Melksham, Fritsch and Smith all seem to be ahead of him at present in Goodwin's thinking. If he retires, he would go with my thanks for his service, not with any ill-will.

We are building nicely but intriguingly.

We were 4 goals down to Brisbane but fought back and won.

We had Adelaide run us down twice in the last quarter but held on and won.

We were 20 points down to Richmond in the third quarter but won by 6 goals (a 9-goal turnaround in 1.5 quarters).

But in each game we've conceded 90+ points.

I said after the GWS game that we needed to relax our defensive mindset to try to "unlock" higher scoring. It appears we're doing that, and I think it's working. But I'm sure we'd prefer it if we weren't conceding as much as we are. 

There was so much pressure on us today, knowing how many sides around us lost. Securing the win, against a good (not great, but good) side, is IMO huge. 

Petty today makes you wonder why we rushed him back after his long injury to put him in the backline forcing us to drop Tomlinson in the process, when Tomlinson was coming off one of his best games for us. We have to leave him forward now, even if he kicks 0 next week and struggles, and even if Tomlinson struggles. We can't keep moving him around. We've dropped Brown to get him into the forward line, let's leave him there. We now have to back Tomlinson in or, if need be, revert to Smith or Hibberd.

Can Gawn make AA if he keeps this up for the last month? Darcy's out, English is fading, and neither can do what Gawn is doing.

We’ve just played probably 3 of the best attacking sides in the game. In fact Adelaide and Lions are one and two for scoring. Goody acknowledged that.

So no, we aren’t happy to concede 90+, but we took the risk of playing more attacking and won. Against less potent attacks, we should be able to concede lower scores while continuing to kick big scores ourselves. 
 

As for coming from behind to win, Pies seem to be the best side ever seen because they keep doing it. So what does that make us?

 

In 2021 we had this ability to never be out of games. We came back and won and it proved the difference in the end. Especially on GF day. It’s great to see us find that ability again. It comes down to fitness and believe and we seem to have regained both after last year.

Yep, undestood, it was such a great game. I forgot to mention, Hibbo will come back in to assist strengthen the team alongside Clarrie and Fritta. Even Grundy may hit some form. Things are getting sharp for the finals.

I agree with all that. Pre-GWS game, you'd have expected us to try to win these games by holding our opponents to low enough scores. It's a very different approach under Goodwin for us to be prepared, against these sorts of sides, to relax the defence and look to out-score them.

Pressure for spots is incredibly important at this time of year. We just need to pray that we don’t have anymore key injuries.

Just got home after a skilful of [censored] and a succulent Vietnamese meal in Victoria Street.

Tough grind but outstanding performance. The Tiges played out of their skin in the first half and everything went their way. I said to my mate at half time they’d be lucky to maintain the pace given the flooding/pressure style of play they were running with and it proved to be the case.

Gawn after a quiet first half was immense. When he didn’t thump it forward he literally pushed Soldo aside and kicked it our way every time. We need to become a team that wins it forward from centre clearance no matter which way it happens. When we lose those we start to [censored] the bed with the pressure it puts on the backline.

Viney, another immense game. Sheer will and determination.

Harry Petty I doubted you as a forward but not longer (for now). He looked dangerous every time we went forward. Richmond even doubled teamed him at almost every marking contest yet it didn’t matter. Keep the moustache off too champion.

Anyway, great win, great score line, I’m [censored]…..and I’m ready for bed. Night.

I said during the game that we probably needed to turn it into a scores from clearance game to win and 76 points from clearances says it all. They stood up when it counted.

Post game, I got drenched walking to Flinders Street Station, then we had a protestor on the line, holding up the train (full of steaming wet supporters from both teams) to Sunbury, into the car and now home in central Victoria. Under other circumstances I would be wet, annoyed, grumpy and ready to rant - but not tonight. Pumped!!

That was a great win.

In the first half, to be honest it felt like a casual boring game without much oomph. The Tiges were killing us at ground level and our half back line were getting annihilated by Richmond's small runners. Didn't look like a Dees game at all with lots of free ball movement and few tight, contested passages of play. Taranto, Martin and Prestia were running amok seemingly with little effective response from us.

Enter one M Gawn. To see him dominate like that in a game with so much on the line will be a lasting memory in my footy-loving life. Leadership, skill, influence, and left nothing to chance. Got to contest after contest and made us win. 

To see our forward line mark and kick like that was so, so satisfying. Petty, JVR and Melksham were brilliant, but so were a lot of the smalls. An incredible team effort, and the tigers  had no answer.

Jack Viney should canter across the line in our B&F - he is everything we want, and everything I go to the footy to enjoy. Got crunched a few times heavily, and simply got up, shook it off and ran to the next contest. And in the last 5 minutes he was still sprinting to the next contest.

Not sure how it came across on TV, but Lever was instrumental in our backline tonight. Genuine leadership.

And JVR is my new favourite player. He just chucks himself at it - marking contest, ground ball, ruck play - he just launches and takes no prisoners.

Great win, great day, I'll go and get dry now.

But really Tigers fans are getting worse than Pies. All day trying to boo out any cheers we had. Whinging about every decision thinking Dusty can’t do anything wrong (he overcooked his kicks several times) and the claiming the umpires for the win. I was abused by a disgusting fan (more of the tired thing about being female) and they just act feral in general. I never minded coming before they won their premiership, now they’re the worst. Have they ever seen Dylan Grimes play? Manages to be a flopper and also a sniper, impressive. Gets away with a fair bit cos his natural facial expression looks like a bloke who’d lose at checkers to a chook

Very proud of our ability to just fight back on multiple occasions. We never had this in us in ‘22 but we did it beautifully in ‘21 and we’re doing it again.

Just watching the replay after going to the game, and had anyone else noticed Trac’s been getting into little spats with the opposition a lot lately? Happened with Collingwood, Brisbane and now Richmond. Not sure if it’s sledging related, but as long as it doesn’t impact his game I suppose.
