Bad management in my view

Did we ever do anything good in your view though?

T-Mac & Brown are contracted for next season ... would they both be on at least $400k in their last year?

If so, I can't see either player walking away from the money.  What's their future income?

With all the long term contracts in the AFL these days, we're going to see more and more players done before their contracts run out

But clubs will factor that into their TPP's as a bit of a necessity ... a way out of it is to front-end contracts and that might be the case with Brown & T-Mac

In overseas sports, it's a common occurance especially when the money is guaranteed (as it is in the AFL)

Yep...aware of that....no reason a 'deal' cant be made.. If Benny can't get up week to week......who's he doing a favour for ??  Same for Tommy..      As Neil once uttered...there comes a time....

If a player develops a career ending injury post contract (contrast with aggravation of an existing injury) the AFL rules allow a negotiated payout if approved by the AFL. The amount of the payout that is outside of the salary cap is part of the negotiations with the AFL.

Doubt that it could be used for TMac but it might be a possibility for BBB.

He can't build fitness his knee/s shot - this has already been confirmed by Goodwin.

Look he is obviously a really nice fella and tries his best but let's be really honest he actually hasn't been a real force in this competition since 2019 (aside from a few brief cameos).

He is 31 later this year and is clearly finding it more and more difficult physically. I would be surprised if he is playing next season which again is one very strong reason it is important to try getting Grundy to function more efficiently as a forward.

20 goals from Rd18 to GF in 2021 was a fair cameo (incl 2 in the Prelim and 3 in Flag)

30 goals in 2022 (behind only Fritta and Kozzie)

11 in 6 games this year - admittedly 8 in the first 2 games skews that a bit, he got dumped by Rampe after the half time siren in Rd3 and hurt his back which I think set him back for a long time but I think reports of his imminent demise are a little exaggerated to paraphrase.

Who would want either of them? But both could provide value to us anyway

Follow the money bub

Not saying anyone wants them.  There are other deals you can do to maintain  their income. ..all above board.

Another perspective...do we really want them to grind themselves into the ground ??..

So give us an idea about the deal that could be made, bub

I'd keep both anyway because I reckon that the contracts keeps them with us and they might be able to get their bodies right and provide value

Make the best of it

How is that even allowed to happen in a club with some good depth like we have?  Is it partly on the players themselves hiding injuries and doing the old "put me in coach I'm okay I just want to play" routine and putting their own ego in front of the club and the rest of the players?  Can that happen these days?  I feel like that's the only way some of these obviously injured players keep getting played.

I just can't see how a professional elite sporting club would play injured players over fresh capable bodies sometimes, the mind boggles.  No need for it.

Brett Moloney in the 186 debacle was a classic example of this.
Can’t remember many since unless you put the “calculated risk” with CP5 in our most recent final in this group.  Or Maysie in 2021 GF?

The whole team was 'crook' that day mono

Although Jordie Mac did pick up 25 possessions!

If Hibberd is OK to go, might he come in for Petty?
I think I'm in the 'give Tommo a go' camp but I can't think who Hibberd would replace. I thought J Smith makes a very good sub and played well tonight when he came on (and we played him both back and forward tonight), so he doesn't deserve to go.

The bloke he would have been on just got rubbed out?

Yep.... a lot will be about matchups.

Pig can play tall and small... Tomo a much better fillip in the 3 muskateers down back than Smith ...imho.

Mighty hard for some players now .

The FD clearly don't trust Tomlinson on really big KPFs and that's fair, I reckon, based on his form earlier in the year.

His best game was against Collingwood, who really only had Cox.

I reckon we would have been worried about Hipwood or Daniher with Tomlinson.

Tomlinson might be an okay match up for Fogarty, but even he might be too strong.

My gut is they're going to try and play Petty again this week and rest him against Richmond.

Time will tell.

Given he has been injured in his last two games,  one would think a breather wouldn't go astray. If not, then maybe your right about the fd and Thommo. He took ten marks in that game though.

I'd try Tommo for Petty (even if he says he's fine).  Hibberd in for Bowie who we try replacing Spargo on the forward flank. Smith sub again.

A poster on the forum a few weeks back said Tommo's cards were marked due to his bad attitude after being dropped after the Pies game. That would be another explanation.

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k
