Werribee poses a definite threat to the Casey Demons’ top four aspirations. Last week, the VFL Tigers stormed home to become the first team to beat Gold Coast and they did it at the Avalon Airport Oval where the game will be played.

We certainly aren't getting the old character filled grounds

No but we do get to play on the runway.

Here's my crack at the possible Casey side.

B: D.Smith, Tomlinson, Adams

HB: Howes, D.Turner, Steele

C: Grey, White, Buntine

HF: Sestan, Schache, Moniz-Wakefield

F: J.Smith, Brown, Jefferson

FOLL: Bell, Laurie, Woewodin

IC: Valentine, Sheppard, Gregory, Baldi, Emile-Brennan

EMERG: Sheridan, Edwards, McRae

Woewodim will play AFL

It’s still Chirnside Park even with a new name

I'm confused. I'm pretty certain he didn't play in the Melbourne or Casey premiership team.

No but he played in the intraclub during the week off (I believe) and that’s good enough for me.

In Werribee. Great ground to watch footy at - beautiful location too down by the river.

I’m out in Werribee @binman - very frustrating as it was probably the one Casey game this year that would have been convenient for us in the west to get to!

Yep - we played the dogs at home, so no Whitten Oval game.

And we play Willy at home, so no game there either (which i'm spewing about - beautiful ground to watch footy at and a 15 min drive door to gate for me)

We're in West Footscray, was also hoping for some Casey fixtures out West.

Will have to settle for catching a Coates Talent League game at Willy later this season.

I'd venture out for a Whitten Oval game, been a long, long time.

I get that we want big, experienced bodies for Jefferson (and Sestan) to learn from, but it can't be good for Jefferson's development that he is effectively playing fourth tall forward (or shunted to the backline) at present. How much game time is he actually getting in the key forward posts?

Same goes for Woewodin, Howes and Laurie being forced on to the wings and flanks, instead of playing quality midfield time.

Jefferson regularly plays 2nd key forward, with BBB number one and Smith and Melksham working up the ground. He’s developing nicely but it lets us protect his body which is not JVR’s and needs to build to be capable of footy with men.
Woewodin and Laurie play plenty of midfield time and Howes is being trained as a HBF, a role he shows a lot of promise in because of his marking. They’re all developing nicely, if anything we need Munro back in the middle to add another rotation, not less mids.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
