I'm going to be in the AFL Reserve. May Got have mercy on my soul.

I’ll be there as well with a couple of others.

I've been to every MFC home match this season.

Please excuse me for not going on KB. Quite simply the filth people do my head in with their constant booing, yelling "ball" every few seconds and the ridicuous "USA, USA" chant. I hate the filth (to quote my ex wife)"with every fibre of my being". Although she said it in a different context.

I promise to go to every other MFC home match this season ... and even matches at Marvel !!

Am I forgiven?

This argument I don’t understand. The opposition supporters should have no bearing on whether you got to games. Upgrade your seat on Ticketek and you will be in one of the Melbourne only bays in m50-m54 or m13-m16 or p1-p15. There are currently 102 single seats available and there will be no Collingwood supporters near you. We need all the support we can get this week.

I went to both Collingwood games last year and swore they were my last. The overt aggressive support is no fun to be around. Gone are the days of the fun banter between supporters. At Collingwood games it's a barrage of froth,  bubble and aggression. I'm no prude but I'm not interested in being around scum who swear every second word........in saying that I'll be there on Monday!

i'll be in afl members, as i have for the last 12 or so years of moving back to melbourne

i know it happens - i've seen the videos - but i've never seen an issue of violence or abuse; for the most part the bonhomie amongst various supporters is the best thing about attending sport in this country

i can't wait for monday

should be a crackerjack contest

i definitely do NOT want a one point win with spargo goaling from a free kick after the final siren; my mfcss sees me generally having kittens if our lead is less than 42 points at 3/4 time

Ah.. the margin of confidence... Mine is 34 points

After last year I fear the 26 point margin

I’ll be in the afl members too, 4 dees in P25, probably 110 of the 120 people in the bay will be black and white but ah well we going to be loud and obnoxious. Helps when you go with a couple of 6,4 blokes

Interesting- mine's 27 points. Depending on how long to go, then I revert to the old "goal per minute"

yep

my margin of confidence is based upon watching big fish salmon when he was at the peptides kicking them to victory from what i thought was a match-winning lead

I've got a mate who is in the building trade (supplier)

He deals with hundreds of people every month and those numbers are changeable

The talk often revolves around footy with nearly everyone of his hundreds of contacts

Zero Demon fans as contacts ... none! All Tigers, Pies, Blues & Bombers with a smattering of Dogs, Hawks & Saints fans

In many ways we are like North Melbourne supporters ... scarce

Well in my job I deal with a lot of lawyers and doctors and I know plenty of Melbourne supporters. I guess it just depends on which demographics you mix with 😉

Agree we are mostly quiet compared to other fan bases but can get very loud occasionally.

I doubt many saw this but there was a time in the 2nd QTR after about our 4th horrible F50 entry in a row that went straight to a Carlton defender and the crowd were restless and negative.

As Carlton ran the ball out, Trac turned to the crowd and yelled " show some [censored] support" during play. I heard it from the 2nd level. At the next stoppage he was revving the crowd up lifting his arms repeatedly.

Our support and lack thereof is so important to our team. Some of the regulars around me are so damn negative and at times disgraceful with abuse hurled at our players it's embarrassing.

100%! Our supporters seem loudest when they are bemoaning their own team. I've started calling for free kicks even when I know they're not there just to get the noise levels up and start putting pressure on the umpires. People around me were doing the same in the Freo game especially when we got within a kick or so. The players feed off the energy and noise of the crowd, anyone who doesn't think so is deluded.

The world has become a two teared system.

Those who can afford to get through the doors into comfortable areas, and the others.

I am of the  "other", and I feel aggrieved that money makes such a difference to participation and perks.

The world is no longer egalitarian and what social class one is born into is the greatest marker for having a seat in the members area, corporate box or in the outer (metaphor for life experiences).

The higher social class gives members in that family so many more opportunities and ease to success, than the majority,  is amazing to me.

The main quality difference appears to be greed.

Given I have had to pay to upgrade my GA tickets, and the seat is not any better, it is making even a H&A game an expensive experience.

Your experiences are different to mine. I feel I have no power to change that, and that it is in the hand of your class to impact and tear down the walls. Within that structural separation, I wonder if I can still call you my brother or sister. Tempted to call you "boss" or "master", as the lower classes slip further away from the Aussie dream of egalitarianism.

I know I have unrealistic expectations but, the world is accelerating towards a greater separation of us.

Well I saw the Demons squander a 27pt 3/4 time lead at Victoria Park back in the 80's so .... That's not enough.

the erosion of the middle class has happened everywhere in the world over the last 30 or so years

oztraya is just catching up

the egalitarianism that you indicate is a false narrative, and the reason why games in excess of a certain expected crowd size are fully ticketed is to a) profit b) control crowds c) manage expectations of attendance

the rich get richer; the poor get the picture

The standard margin of confidence needs to be adjusted against Collingwood to account for their supporters.

As Gerard Whately observed of their comebacks a few weeks ago, once they kick a couple of goals, "the crowd seems to will it into existence".

That momentum can turn into an avalanche in the blink of an eye.

That's what known as 'the Chris Sullivan line' thanks to @Supermercado. 47 points early in the last quarter.

Absolutely you're forgiven Winners.

Last year I sat level 1 in mcc area. It was a Zoo and i lodged written complaint to club. Goodness knows what rest of ground will be like.

Take comfort that the filth attendees are all contributing to our already multi million future fund coffers.

This year I'm queuing to try and get a walk up seat closer to civilisation.

Filth fans en masse are appalling.

One thing I believe is for sure: Every fan like us has their own in-built sense of when they believe a game is over.

Some are slightly different to others but everyone has one.

In the U.S. its called the 12th man effect at the Srattle Seahawks.

The loudest recorded crowd at any world sporting event at 130 plus decibels. But i bet they're not moronic like the filth.

It's a fair call and is one of the reasons why I don't think the crowd will be as high as expected. I just think some Melbourne supporters will have been put off by some of the Collingwood crowd behaviour of the two matches last year.

The USA chant is quite possibly the most annoying aspect of a Collingwood game for a group of supporters that used to bronx cheer the same player that went anywhere near the ball. And their sooking about the umpiring is so much worse than other supporter base, particularly when Ginnivan doesn't get a free for flopping.

You would think you could go for a 3 for 1 rule.

They'll kick 3 but we will kick 1.

On that basis a 30 point lead means they need to kick 8 goals to win.

These days however consecutive goals by one side seems to be the norm

We're all sinners my friend.

I hate Collingwood supporters, but on September 25th 2021 I promised myself I’d never miss another Melbourne game I could get to.

If we lose it’ll be horrible, but if we win -god help them all.

You'd be surprised how corporate boxes are used these days. It's no longer only the Collins Street brigade. Many companies use them to reward their employees at all levels for "doing a good job."

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.
