Wow, Woey Jnr getting a go is really pleasing if that's the case.

He's definitely skilled enough to make it, he's a lovely kick and for those who remember his dad, he seems to have a similar work ethic although I worry about his pure speed. But his dad managed to work his way from a back pocket rookie longshot in 97 into our most important midfielder by 2000, so who really knows.

Even more pleasing is that for the first time since round 3, our selectors are thinking outside the box again.

As with Sydney, Fremantle has done well against us in recent times with last year's win at the 'G the start of our decline and if you recall it was Michael Frederick who carved up Rivers as they overran us after halftime.

Rivers has been our most improved players this year so I doubt Frederick will be much of an influence, but they are in form with their tail up and Walters and Seargent Schultz will be everywhere I reckon, not to mention Fyfe, Brayshaw and Serong.

Hopefully McVee gets Walters, Bowey gets Schultz and our Brayshaw takes Fyfe out of it, whether in the middle or up forward. They play three talls - Amiss, Jacko and Treacy and Banfield ain't short either, so I suspect we will need either Turner. Turner has to play - he learnt a bit from his three quarters on the Gold Coast as was shown by his huge game at Casey against NM last week.

And while we are talking changes, with Hunter out, now is the time to start Salem on the left wing which will surprise Freo. I'd have him rotating with Hibbo, who ensures we have a hard tackling outside mid who is good in the air - that is one of Freo's big strengths when they are on.

Either way our selectors must be way more tactical than they have been of late and must pull some changes to break up our monotonous ways which have crept back in - you are allowed to attack down the right hand wing and if Ed is over there we need to use his pace.

And a hard tag on Serong would also help - Viney is the obvious man, with whoever plays out of Harmes or Jordon given a tagging job on Andrew Brayshaw when they are on the field. 

Chandler's confidence has dried up the past two weeks - and as clever as he was early, it's time to give him a rest - I know that's a hard call given his plethora of goals and assists in early games.

One last comment that I know most won't agree with - but JVR must be dropped for this game - we all know he's a developing talent but there has to be consequences for his lack of discipline that cost us big time against Port. A week in the twos should be compulsory.

And like many of you, I reckon we can get by without T.Mac this week, he's just not quite quick enough these days and probably needs another hard block of match-free training to get his mobility back.

Draft camp he was top 5 speed over 20 metres, IIRC. I also remember that surprising the draft watchers. A bit like Tom Sparrow. Most assume he isn’t quick by the ‘look’ of his running. He’s top 5 at the club.

A bit like Tom Sparrow? Very interesting take. Hard at the footy yes, but don’t think they’re very similar. Sparrow is crash and bash, Taj more breaks lines in and out of traffic.

His time was 2.898.  Under 3 seconds is quick, under 2.9 seconds is express.

I think its time to change the balance a bit.  JVR is only young and Tmac is struggling a bit.  This puts a lot of pressure on Fritta.   

At present we have 8 defenders in the side if you include Brayshaw.  

I think you can remove one of them and include another marking forward.   Smith seems to be performing that role at Casey.  If he was included if Bowey is injured, you would also have cover if a tall defender goes down (either he or Tmac  could then cover that and still have marking strength up forward).  Smith also has pace which creates room which has enabled Melks to kick goals at Casey.  Perhaps he could do the same for JVR/Fritta.

People need to realize that teams actually lose a handful of games a season, Port isn't a bad team, have one 6-7 on the run and we played in the wet away. Obviously not an amazing game from a dees perspective but its not as though we are back to the horror years.

Derps, probably Schache for TMac and I wouldn't be against Smith replacing JVR for the one week. I doubt they'll want to replace both KPFs in the one week.

He will get a rest after the bye, bringing Smith as a key forward is too much of a gamble.

I've then seen other posters say that he's playing but don't know whether they're basing that on the statement in that post or whether something has been announced. So, simple question: Has the club stated anywhere that Woewodin will be playing?

Club hasn't announced anything about Woey debuting LDC, most are going by what the poster stated as they have a high success rate with 'inside' info.

Intrigued by the Woey rumours.

There's 2 spots I'd consider him for.

1. Wing: in which case I can't see him overtaking JJ. But I guess JJ could play on ball. Gus back to half back. Bowey doesn't come up? Or McVee gets a rest?

2. half forward/3rd winger: ANB's done that at times but JJ probably needs more rest than Hunter, so a 3rd winger comes in. A half forward would have to make way. Chandler? Sprago? ANB himself? Drop a tall? Give Fritsch a potentially much needed week off (from a health perspective please don't start)?

Given how reluctant Goodwin has been in his career to play young guys on the wings my guess is it's the latter.

I think Woey was in line for the preseason game v Richmond and round 1 start that Laurie got so I'm not overly surprised if it happens.

I like the sound of Woey debuting if true. He’s looked good at VFL level. I think he’ll rotate the mid/wing Hunter role with Jordon. Woey’s been very good at VFL level since his return, good in and under, makes good space on the outside, uses the ball pretty well and takes a nice overhead mark and plays a little taller than he looks which would be a different look for us on a wing.
