So it would be a package of our two first round picks this year plus a first round pick from 2024?

Does it only work if the Freo pick is top 5?

I wouldn't give up 3 first round picks for any player who is only an injury away from being a bust.

This is supposed to be a strong draft.

Spread the investment lads.

We don’t need a few good players tho. We need A+ graders otherwise they won’t get a game and they’ll leave. We need another Oliver or Trac. Not another Laurie… absolutely no offense to Laurie I’m just using him as an example.

Yeah I'm a bit torn in this as well.

He's getting talked up same way as JHF being the generational talent that we haven't seen before.

Think I'll hold reserve on this for now...

I'd rather retain Freo's top 10 (5?) pick

And try to wheel to deal turn our pick, hopefully pick 18, into another top ten pick

Take 2x top 10 picks into draft night, then Kynan Brown with change

Attempt the key word. The [censored] would have to really fall out from Freo to get a high enough pick to make it enticing for an 18th placed Hawks or Eagles. As in Pick 3-4 packaged with our 2x probable Pick 15-18's.

If its Pick 5-10, there's probably no chance with Hawthorn at least. WCE probably more interested due to WA player angle.

as of today Freo looks all but a lock in the bottom 6 of the ladder, so there is a chance the pick does fall in the top 5...

If the Dees did that they'd have shown they've/we've learnt nthing.  And that's simply not the case. I actually think we're among the more savvy and wiley in this league.

Segway ...for a moment.  The introduction of the 19th club... The Devils ( not sure how i feel about that....the name ...lol ) With they're being ushered in comes 3 or 4 years of seriously compromised drafts.

This years draft and maybe next are our chance to snap up and bank some talent before the well goes dry.

You're not going to load up and throw all at 36Red ... no no no

I sense we will fanangle a creep up the positions..but highly doubt an 'all in'

That for mine would be daft

We will get an A+ grader at our first pick.

I agree with 'adonski' that we should be trying for 2 top 10 picks.

if we believe that JVR and Jefferson are our future KPF, maybe all we need this year and the next is to target the next May and Viney?

Forgot about that one 'BB', you're spot on.

Time to bank talent also with the hope a few father/sons come good as well

I guess it depends how highly Taylor rates Harley. He might see him as better than any other two top 10 pick available.
I trust our recruiting team 100%…. And hey we might end up with pick 1 anyway. Freo heave ho.

Our big 'rival' in terms of manoeuvring ourselves up the draft order is GWS. They'll be the ones that will probably get two top 10 draft picks with theirs and holding Richmond's. They might even both be picks lower than Freo's.

Edit: Right now its #3 and #7, but I think it will end up being #5/6 and #8/9. Freo I think will be #5/6

Certainly validity here.... that said the Giants have never been adversarial towards us. We may even be able to help each other ;)

I say we recruit for the now. Obviously our cap is tight, but maybe we can tempt some young a-grader/s to achieve success not money.

We put the 3 firsts on the table for Essendon, my mail said Phillipou, with an Essendon second rounder back, which really means it’s the equivalent of 2.

Clubs have put similar big deals together for Petracca, JHF, Dusty and probably others.

The problem is if you get a consensus superstar number 1 pick it’s very hard to see a team giving that away.

Best case scenario is our pick is the last one of the first round. Freo’s pick we’ll likely try to upgrade but hey, let’s just get an Oliver and pick 4, that will do.

Reid is a special young player , totally different to a Nick Daicos or Will Ashcroft. He has natural aggression. Intensity.

He wants to win contests and thrives at the contest. How this translates to playing against men and not boys is something to consider.

And what’s he’s best position?. He’s like a more aerobic and agile Jake Stringer.  Forward. Back. Inside Midfield.  Yet to be determined. Perhaps a Multi purpose player.   Utility?!?!?!

I’m a fan if we gave up 2 picks but 3 is a stretch aka a huge gamble.

Unless an interstate side ends up with pick 1 (most likely WCE or GC) and is worried about the go home factor with Reid. If he’s smart he plays it up in the hope to end up at Melbourne and we can do a trade for pick 1.

Unfortunately I think Hawks will do whatever it takes to finish last and they won’t give him up so the whole discussion becomes irrelevant… unless we end up with pick 2 or 3 from Freo (doubtful) and Hawks are keen to load up because their list is hot garbage.

  • PREVIEW: Richmond

A few years ago, the Melbourne Football Club produced a documentary about the decade in which it rose from its dystopic purgatory of regular thrashings to the euphoria of a premiership victory. That entire period could have been compressed in a fast motion version of the 2025 season to date as the Demons went from embarrassing basket case to glorious winner in an unexpected victory over the Dockers last Saturday. They transformed in a single week from a team that put in a pedestrian effort of predictably kicking the ball long down the line into attack that made a very ordinary Bombers outfit look like worldbeaters into a slick, fast moving side with urgency and a willingness to handball and create play with shorter kicks and by changing angles to generate an element of chaos that yielded six goals in each of the opening quarters against Freo.

  • NON-MFC: Round 07

Round 7 gets underway in iconic fashion with the traditional ANZAC Day blockbuster. The high-flying Magpies will be looking to solidify their spot atop the ladder, while the Bombers are desperate for a win to stay in touch with the top eight. Later that evening, Fremantle will be out to redeem themselves after a disappointing loss to the Demons, facing a hungry Adelaide side with eyes firmly set on breaking into the top four. Saturday serves up a triple-header of footy action. The Lions will be looking to consolidate their Top 2 spot as they head to Marvel Stadium to clash with the Saints. Over in Adelaide, Port Adelaide will be strong favourites at home against a struggling North Melbourne. The day wraps up with a fiery encounter in Canberra, where the Giants and Bulldogs renew their bitter rivalry. Sunday’s schedule kicks off with the Suns aiming to bounce back from their shock defeat to Richmond, taking on the out of form Swans. Then the Blues will be out to claim a major scalp when they battle the Cats at the MCG. The round finishes with a less-than-thrilling affair between Hawthorn and West Coast at Marvel. Who are you tipping and what are the best results for the Demons?

  • REPORT: Fremantle

For this year’s Easter Saturday game at the MCG, Simon Goodwin and his Demons wound the clock back a few years to wipe out the horrible memories of last season’s twin thrashings at the hands of the Dockers. And it was about time! Melbourne’s indomitable skipper Max Gawn put in a mammoth performance in shutting out his immediate opponent Sean Darcy in the ruck and around the ground and was a colossus at the end when the game was there to be won or lost. It was won by 16.11.107 to 14.13.97. There was the battery-charged Easter Bunny in Kysaiah Pickett running anyone wearing purple ragged, whether at midfield stoppages or around the big sticks. He finish with a five goal haul.

  • CASEY: UWS Giants

The Casey Demons took on an undefeated UWS Giants outfit at their own home ground on a beautiful autumn day but found themselves completely out of their depth going down by 53 points against a well-drilled and fair superior combination. Despite having 15 AFL listed players at their disposal - far more than in their earlier matches this season - the Demons were never really in the game and suffered their second defeat in a row after their bright start to the season when they drew with the Kangaroos, beat the Suns and matched the Cats for most of the day on their own dung heap at Corio Bay. The Giants were a different proposition altogether. They had a very slight wind advantage in the opening quarter but were too quick off the mark for the Demons, tearing the game apart by the half way mark of the term when they kicked the first five goals with clean and direct football.

The Dees are back at the MCG on Thursday for the annual blockbuster ANZAC Eve game against the Tigers. Can the Demons win back to back games for the first time since Rounds 17 & 18 last season? Who comes in and who goes out?
