Smalls. Kozzy, Chandler and a Papley/Weightman type that can hit the foot of the Gawn and JVR contests. We'll still need the ANBs and Spargos, but that's where we could really excel.

Unless of course, we landed someone like Ben King, leaving Max able to play forward or behind the ball, in tandem with Grundy.

I meant in terms of another tall; Gawn is the option 20m out, Fritsch is the combo medium tall that works best in the wake of another leading tall, and JVR is new commodity that will be persevered with due to his competitiveness but he might ultimately dictate what that remaining tall needs to be.

If JVR prefers to get up the lines and back, then we need a deeper leading option like a Brown leading from the square to the arc to allow Fritsch less attention. Or maybe JVR is more effective close to goals and we need to get someone to help get up to the logos and be a target.

King is a great talent and you can make do with that but if they want to get another few years out of Gawn - it’s as a FP/back up ruck well away from the knees and fists of CHFs behind the footy.

rpfc - still not sold on Max being included as a tall forward on a permanent / regular basis, but with TMc and BBB looking closer to the end we do have  Jefferson developing OK at Casey, and Shack in similar age demographics as Georgiades.
I wouldn’t discard interest completely, but not to me a top priority.

I think that 3rd tall is one the higher priorities. They are just going to persist with Gawn forward. JVR will need help if he is to make it, and we just can’t rely on TMac’s form or BBB’s health. I have been burnt on players like Jefferson; he is “two years away from being two years away.” He is a twig.

So I think it’s important. As is back up for Gawn/Grundy. And the future FB. And, god forbid, a replacement for Kozzie.

Rance's MO was a running leap with knees into the back of players - didn't he take Spencer out a few years ago?

I don't think there is a 'safe' place for Max.  He will be targetted anywhere and everywhere on the field and anywhere on his body; even by small players.

The best we can do is to manage him from non-critical games in his later years.

Know what you mean about the past but think you're being a bit tough on Jefferson. He's already double the size he was when drafted so now only half the size he has to be. He's already put on more bulk than someone like Wattsy ever managed. He's also showing promising signs in competitiveness and contested marking. There's reasons to be a bit more optimistic than that.

Agree. Aaron Cadman from GWS isn’t much different in size and is playing already.

No doubt, but deep in the forward line with no ‘line’ behind him means he is unlikely to have a big body anywhere other than beside him. It’s a much safer place for him.

My main point is how close he is from contributing in a complimentary role in this great team. He will only get opportunities within that framework, and that will be hard for him.

When they were drafted but it wouldn't be that much now.

Nah.

Cadman has added more weight and looks significantly bigger then what he did around draft time.

While Jefferson may have added some weight he's still a twig and gets pushed off the ball pretty easily at VFL level.

I take it you've watched him play already this season. I haven't watched GWS. Out of interest how is Hogan going. From what I gather he should be finally in peak condition and have his head in the right space. This should be his year but I haven't read anything about him. As for Jefferson I did say he's half the size he needs to be but at least is showing signs he can put bulk on unlike some players who come in and can never bulk up to the right size. I don't expect to see him before 2025 unless some miraculous body bulking goes on between now and next season.

If our next three years are Gawn, Fritsch, and JVR in the forward line. I am trying to think what we need to compliment that. To me, Brown is perfect for this year because he is a lead up tall who can cause a contest. Move it quick and he will kick a few.

Georgiades is similar to that while not being that big body (9cms shorter than BBB).

Keep an iron in the fire but our options open.

Jefferson will be ok and we need to draft a Lynch type to round it out.

He wasn't good yesterday. Poor body language and looking for cheapies. I don't think he'll ever fulfil his potential.

Georgiades apparently did a knee in the SANFL, unsure on severity as of yet but some concern about an ACL possibility.

Tmac and Brown are both contracted until the end of next year so whilst they are both on the list there probably isn't room for another forward.

disagree completely, we've got mids coming out of our noses atm with laurie, jordon, woey, howes coming through and a top 5 pick plus ky brown this year (thanks freo), going after mature age forwards such as georgiades or even if we could prize King or Allen away from their respective clubs itll be well worth it

It’s not about a dime a dozen midfielders. It’s about getting another Oliver or Trac. We don’t need quantity now we need top end quality.
If we end up with a top 5 pick from Freo I believe we will go for a midfielder.

Which essentially is a giant poo for young fellas around their age.

I am actually a big Georgiades fan. He showed a lot of promise as a junior.

In a video posted by the club post draft, Jason Taylor said he would have taken him if available with the pick we took Trent Rivers with. So there's no doubt our recruiting team also rate Mitch.
In my opinion, He hasn't had a great run at it to be developed into a good forward yet and a new environment would be valuable to his development.

To elaborate more from my initial point. In terms of list management, we also currently have Fritsch, Schache, Van Rooyeen, Jefferson on our list as forwards. so until Brown or Tmac retire there isn't really any room for another.

Hogan's going well actually and I'm really happy to see him in good form.

On his way to a 40 plus goals this season on form alone.

If Geogiades had done his knee I'd give a 3rd round pick for him. Otherwise a second-round pick for him. He should come cheap. Don't want King will have to give too much away to get him, like in the Jackson scenario. You can't win in those types of deals.

If he has done his knee then I wouldn't offer anything. Fingers crossed for him.

    GAMEDAY: Rd 18 vs Essendon

It’s game day and the Demons face a massive test which may determine whether they have what it takes to play finals this season. The task has been made all the more difficult without their Premiership Captain Max Gawn.

    GIANT HEADACHE by Whispering Jack

The crack in the captain’s ankle might be very small but the repercussions of the injury are enormous. The aftershock of the news that Max Gawn will sit on the sidelines for the next two or three weeks has provided Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin with a giant headache, not unlike the one he faced after the Kings Birthday when another Demon superstar Christian Petracca suffered his season-ending injury. That headache is magnified by the fact that Goodwin is facing a month of tough encounters a

    DERAILMENT by KC from Casey

It wasn’t quite a trainwreck although at times, it sure looked like one, so I’ll settle for “derailment”.  The trip to Brighton Homes Arena in Springfield outside the back of Brisbane might not exactly be the same place where Homer Simpson’s family resides but, if you listened closely to the utterances of the Casey Demons fans both at the ground or watching via livestream, you could hear lots of groaning and plenty of expressions of “D'oh!” reverberating in the background, particular

TEN YEARS AFTER by Whispering Jack

Things have changed in the more than ten years since the West Coast Eagles decimated Melbourne by 93 points on the MCG early in the 2014 season. The two sides had not met at the home of football in the interim until yesterday when Melbourne won by a comfortable 54 points to remain in contention for this year’s finals series. Back in those days, the Demons were in the midst of their Great Depression but they have since tasted premiership glory and experienced a long enough period among
