I think a lot of people (Not talking about me) just simply wanted to say he was stiff. Not everything needs the positive police to take their head off.

    Regarding TMac's in this week ... I think a number of us might have missed the fact that there is currently a lot of young fowards and the selectors may have wanted another mature head down there to temper any excitement (à la ANB in GF 2021 🙂).

Experience is the only way we can maximise and extend his value to the team and his future development; a game played is a 'game invested' in this young man. West Coast is a perfect opportunity for him to play and it is one in which very little 'risk' from his selection is going to present itself. I think many of us can perceive at least two other players (who most probably will play with less form) that could be rested and replaced by JJ for both immediate and longer-term team health. Let's not lose this upcoming gun with so much to offer as we race towards career sunsets for the identifiable few.

    I just want to play Collingwood, Geelong, Carlton and Richmond and then finals. I've already bought my Premiers23 poster. When JJ can play like that and get dropped you know things are going very very well. I haven't been this confident since 2021 :)

    For sure ... However, JJ made a massive case to stay last week.

    Albeit only one week to go on but was quite a come back game.

    Stats from last week also indicate same...

    56 this is exactly where you want to be as a top line club.

    A solid 22/23 that's hard to budge and even some super solid players are struggling to stay even when they pony up and put in a great performance.

    What message does this send to the usual 22/23 you think?

    I had a quick look into the attendance numbers and for us against West Coast and over the last 20 years in Melbourne, Well it has been pretty poor.
    An average of 20K at the MCG where in WA (optus/subiaco) when we play WC they average at least 40k.
    It's double the revenue in ticket sales for the AFL for us to go over there if we only play them once during in the season.

    Now we haven't had a chance to see what the numbers would be for a crowd at the MCG since 2014 as we sold our home game in 2019 to NT.

    I would imagine if this game was in Melbourne this year we'd crack 40k

    Where do other teams have to go to , to appease the money grabbing bag of so called AFL entrepreneurs that run this shop?

    And is it fair?

    Jordan is an interesting one. Sparrow has higher upside based on his physical attributes, but Jordan is outperforming him yet receiving the chop. I understand team balance plays a part in it, but gotta reward form. Wouldn’t blame Jordan for reportedly putting contracts talks on hold and looking elsewhere.

    I think either of them (JJ & Sparrow) are very good on their day playing a somewhat similar role but in their own fashion.

    JJ may have taken his game up quite significantly vs his form from last season if last week is anything to go by but probably need a few matches to really gauge if this is more than just a one off out-of-the box.

    If i'm Goody i'd be wanting to hang on to both and be giving them both a decent run rotating them in blocks with clear advice that they aren't competing for the one role/posi.  They're both valued and we want them both but that they're selection will be based not only on form (VFL/AFL) but also on match ups / game day roles and needs.

    Nothing wrong with freshening players up in season either.  These fellas play a tough posi where they'll be getting banged up quite a bit.  Not saying they wont at VFL level either but maybe not to the degree at senior level.

    There is also no shame playing with the VFL squad.  Its a super strong squad at the moment and many learnings can be passed on and learned at that level also then brought into the seniors when the call up is given.

    It was either Roos or Goodwin who said something along the lines of - When the game's on the line and thinking who's going into the middle ..... "I'm going with the grunt."

    Looking now at the depleted Eagles squad. Likely danger if any is Darling and Allen up forward. Both have showed proven goalkicking ability. Though May and Petty should be more than capable to cover them.  Yeo, Kelly and Gaff are stars but seem to have lost their edge over last 12 months. Dees should control the midfield and win by 5+ goals.

    Yes 100% Fm.

    There are also nuances that might be being asked for Sparrow that aren't being asked and / or expected from JJ and visa versa that we aren't privy to.

    5+ goals,  if they are serious it should be at least 12+, no excuses for this one.

    Correct.  There's people here who want to be positive and that's fine, but they demand that everyone does the same. So if you post something negative, expect to be attacked and sometimes bullied

    The draw has never been fair... but where it works the other way in our favour is we generally play GWS in Melbourne because we get a bigger crowd. We've played 6 of the last 9 times in Melbourne.

      The Sir Doug Nicholls Round kicks off in Darwin with a Top 4 clash between the Suns and the Hawks. On Friday night the Swans will be seeking to rebound from a challenging start to the season, while the Blues have the Top 8 in their sights after their sluggish start. Saturdays matches kick off with a blockbuster between the Collingwood and Kuwarna with the Magpies looking to maintain their strong form and the Crows aiming to make a statement on the road. The Power face a difficult task to revive their season against a resilient Cats side looking to make amends for their narrow loss last week. The Giants aim to reinforce their top-eight status, while the Dockers will be looking to break the travel hoodoo. The sole Saturday game is a critical matchup for both teams, as the Bulldogs strive to cemet their spot in the top six and the Bombers desperately want break into the 8. Sundays start with a bottom 3 clash between the Tigers and Kangaroos with both teams wanting to avoid the being in wooden spoon contention. The Round concludes with the Eagles still searching for their first win of the season, while the Saints look to keep their finals hopes alive with a crucial away victory. Who are you tipping and what are the best results for the Demons?

      And just like that, we’re Narrm again. Even though the annual AFL Sir Doug Nicholls Round which commemorates the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture to our game has been a welcome addition to our calendar for ten years, more lately it has been a portent of tough times ahead for we beleaguered Narrm supporters. Ever since the club broke through for its historic 2021 premiership, this has become a troubling time of the year for the club. For example, it all began when Melbourne rebranded itself as Narrm across the two rounds of the Sir Doug Nicholls Round to become the first club to adopt an Indigenous club name especially for the occasion. It won its first outing under the brand against lowly North Melbourne to go to 10 wins and no losses but not without a struggle or a major injury to  star winger Ed Langdon who broke his ribs and missed several weeks. In the following week, still as Narrm, the team’s 17 game winning streak came to an end at the hands of the Dockers. That came along with more injuries, a plague that remained with them for the remainder of the season until, beset by injuries, the Dees were eliminated from the finals in straight sets. It was even worse last year, when Narrm inexplicably lowered its colours in Perth to the Waalit Marawar Eagles. Oh, the shame of it all! At least this year, if there is a corner to turn around, it has to be in the direction of something better. To that end, I produced a special pre-game chant in the local Narrm language - “nam mi:wi winnamun katjil prolin ambi ngamar thamelin amb” which roughly translated is “every heart beats true for the red and the blue.” >y belief is that if all of the Narrm faithful recite it long enough, then it might prove to be the only way to beat the Brisbane Lions at the Gabba on Sunday. The Lions are coming off a disappointing draw at Marvel Stadium against a North Melbourne team that lacks the ability and know how to win games (except when playing Melbourne). Brisbane are, however, a different kettle of fish at home and have very few positional weaknesses. They are a midfield powerhouse, strong in defence and have plenty of forward options, particularly their small and medium sized players, to kick a winning score this week after the sting of last week’s below par performance.

      There was a time during the current Melbourne cycle that goes back to before the premiership when the club was the toughest to beat in the fourth quarter. The Demons were not only hard to beat at any time but it was virtually impossible to get the better them when scores were close at three quarter time. It was only three or four years ago but they were fit, strong and resilient in body and mind. Sadly, those days are over. This has been the case since the club fell off its pedestal about 12 months ago after it beat Geelong and then lost to Carlton. In both instances, Melbourne put together strong, stirring final quarters, one that resulted in victory, the other, in defeat. Since then, the drop off has been dramatic to the point where it can neither pull off victory in close matches, nor can it even go down in defeat  gallantly.

    • CASEY: Footscray

      At twenty-four minutes into the third term of the game between the Casey Demons and Footscray VFL at Whitten Oval, the visitors were coasting. They were winning all over the ground, had the ascendancy in the ruck battles and held a 26 point lead on a day perfect for football. What could go wrong? Everything. The Bulldogs moved into overdrive in the last five minutes of the term and booted three straight goals to reduce the margin to a highly retrievable eight points at the last break. Bouyed by that effort, their confidence was on a high level during the interval and they ran all over the despondent Demons and kicked another five goals to lead by a comfortable margin of four goals deep into the final term before Paddy Cross kicked a couple of too late goals for a despondent Casey. A testament to their lack of pressure in the latter stages of the game was the fact that Footscray’s last ten scoring shots were nine goals and one rushed behind. Things might have been different for the Demons who went into the game after last week’s bye with 12 AFL listed players. Blake Howes was held over for the AFL game but two others, Jack Billings and Taj Woewodin (not officially listed as injured) were also missing and they could have been handy at the end. Another mystery of the current VFL system.
