I need some help understanding why the Swans are on top of the ladder. We kick a bigger score, won by 50 points. Not sure how the calcs work?

Gold Coast score is lower than Footscray…

On a negative note, 48,000 is poor start for us.

Seriously

That's on the Dogs supporters, they were very thin on the ground

Dogs don’t travel outside of Marvel.

i reckon we might’ve had 30/35k, them 10/15k, throw in a few neutrals and you have your 48k. Would’ve liked to have seen more Dees fans there tbh, Dogs fans effort was woeful.

T mac looked terrible. Only recent bags have been against north, wc, hawks and saints. Has been a liabilty. JVR in next week, but unlikely thanks to goodwins stupid unwillingness to change.

You’re kidding? He’s so crucial to our structure - outside of kicking goals. Go to a game and just watch how and where he moves; no coincidence that the drop off last season started after he was out….

It felt like around 50. Bit disappointed, hoped for 60

We didn’t get 60 to the grand final replay in round 1 last year, dogs aren’t a big crowd club…

Absolutely 100%
TMac is a very important cog in the Forward line

Wouldn’t suprise me at all if his game today was exactly what Goody asked for.

I presume those saying Kozzie will get weeks we’re watching on tv and that was what the commentators said?

At the game that just looked like a stupid late contact that amounted to nothing. Smith gave Kozzie a tap on the but as he went back for his free kick. Even the replay looked hard but not head high.

Gawn and Petracca are awesome, don't get me wrong.  But Oliver is totally underated by the so called epxerts. His hands and distribution are just incredible, BOG for mine

Kozzy in the guts is just a whole new level. I'm going to miss him seeing him live next week at the gabba. He's gone for 2 to 3 weeks I reckon. He's doing what he should and playing flat out to get the best contract he can with us (I hope)

Chandler - I've watched a fair bit of Casey in the last couple of years and he just tries his guts out. He's not that classy but so happy for him to finally get a real crack. Could be another Spargo for us.

Our general field play is sooooo much better, working the angles, best options and staying out of the pockets, Yuesss!

Ugle Hayden - a real plus for us. Really unrealiable.
Naughton - Hated his scragging, pushing in the back, carrying on etc. He seemed a real Joe Daniher by the end of the game and I was enjoying his general craziness by the end.

Umps - It's time the AFL considered six umpires on the field to pick up on the throwing, dropping the ball and hands in the back. How stupid is the half rule to allow forwards to push defenders in the back now? Pfft

We are becoming a seriously big super power club now, they can't ignore us as snow bunnies anymore! Go Dees!

Agree with most comments. But why do you think Clarry is underrated? Which experts are you referring to? Oliver is an absolute super star. A real gem!

You watch this be made an example of not being about outcome but potential to cause serious damage. I can just see that we’ll cop a whack again and then every other similar case will be half of what Kozzy gets.

He should get 2-3 games but others will walk away with fines - 1 week.

Will be interesting to see how the Buddy incident is rated? Similar body contact. Probably just a fine.

Anyone else pinch themselves when brodie grundy does brodie grundy things?  Opposition teams  have no chance frankly if these ruckmen are fit.   How good.

Would love to hear how the players have felt through the preseason games and now Round 1.

The shackles are off and they are allowed to play , what a difference a little bit of risk adds.

No surprise that the HF players like Spargs and Chin were able to get involved when they have some space to move. BBB was much better with the ball not lobbed on his head all night.

Wonder how they feel about their forwards being towelled up like that? Lobb/Darcy/Naughton and UH combined for a grand total of 30 possies and 2 goals. Lobb was getting beaten by blokes 2/3 his size all night.

On the Smith/Pickett one, my immediate feeling was that Smith threw his head out of the way knowing the hit was coming. The action does not look good though and you’d expect a week to set an example, any more would be very questionable

Lever was absolutely fantastic

Lever wore a mantle last night - and came through in very dominant ways. Superb judgment attacking the ball and in distribution. With May missing, he minimised two key opponents, stopping the pill and moving us on - initiating pathways and in reality (early) kept us in the game.

The way we respond in games is nothing like we’ve seen before. Without a doubt the Dogs put the squeeze on in the second quarter and they had a patch where they sprayed a few, but our ability to stop an opponents momentum and then put the foot down is simply breathtaking.

From we where sat on Level 1, Lever was just outstanding not only when the ball came but also setting up the team defence. He could well be the next captain of our club.

Ahh, just listening to the TV commentary of the game and fox panel comments.

Lots of gushing about Gawn and Tracc who were fantastic. Tracc for the Brownlow etc etc.

But Clarry gets in there and distributes like no one else. He has to have the fastest set of hands and reaction time in the league. I think we'd miss him more than CP.

Anyways, we're incredibly lucky to have them all.

Thought Gus had a ripper 2nd half. He was struggling b4 then but finished strongly.

Max is elite.

Bbb is back.

As is Tommo. How does May get back in?

Outstanding win against a fellow contender.  Given no Maysie, Vines, Fritta and Salo, it tastes even sweeter.  Hard to imagine a more impressive start to the season.

Predictable excitements still abound; really waiting for that componentry to blend on the field - now that there appears to be some consistent and soul-destroying intent amongst the Demons' players who are prepared to fight back and then take the game away, including the first-half freshness of many opposition players.

In this assessment, I am thinking, for example, of the re-bounding against the Doggies last night and then, actually realising what a step forward from this point is going to look like: May, Fritta, Viney, Hibberd, Salem coming into the bludgeoning Demons team, underpinned by the Super-sub in the Melk for cameos, JVR and two particular young talents in the backline (Judd and Disco) pressing for blood, including the vast improvements, capabilities and intents of Sparrow and Rivers.

We actually have some mongrel pulsating across and underneath our entire lines of intent. Our only limitation may be the AFL itself and the umpires, and the MRC. Stuff 'em.

Gus is our longer-term Mr Fixit, gets us going straight again and makes our receivers get mobile and create their own opportunities both in shutting-down opponents and in receiving upfield, that generates our scoring successes.
