McDonald to Grundy at the top of the square was brilliant. If Brodie marks like that in the forward line we are going to have a good season

It'll be a huge bonus if Grundy can mark and kick goals like this during the season.

Very good first quarter. Everyone looking reasonably sharp (other than Brown)

Wow. Brodie 2 goals. I'm liking the look of this.

Tell him as a Melbourne major sponsor our game should take priority.

I think they know, but I seem to be the only supporter.

They have opened upstairs, but no commentary,  and the commentary in downstairs areas cannot be heard.

Early days but Bucks has gone out and said McStay better than Grundy … 🤔 I think not.

Brown had a hair cut

Can McVee tighten up on their champion. Martin can turn games

Any breeze there? Doesn't look like it on the box

Slight breeze (8km/hr ) favouring our end in the first qtr.

Lol

Grundy kicks his third.

Martin beats McVee one on one and snaps Richmond's first of the day. Tricky match up for the rookie

39 - 9

BB disappointing

Got away with a big and obvious jumper hold.  Not sure how none of the 4 umps saw it.

Pity about that Prestia injury. I know no-one cares but still not nice to see.

Brown gives away a free kick and Balta takes advantage of the breeze to slam home a goal for the Tigers.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

The media focus on the fiery interaction between Max Gawn and Steven May at the end of the game was unfortunate because it took away the gloss from Melbourne’s performance in winning almost everywhere but on the scoreboard in its Kings Birthday clash with Collingwood at the MCG. It was a real battle reminiscent of the good old days when the rivalry between the two clubs was at its height and a fitting contest to celebrate the 2025 Australian of the Year, Neale Daniher and his superb work to bring the campaign to raise funds for motor neurone disease awareness to the forefront. Notwithstanding the fact that the Magpies snatched a one point victory from his old club, Daniher would be proud of the fact that his Demons fought tooth and nail to win the keenly contested game in front of 77,761 fans.

  • POSTGAME: Collingwood

Despite effectively playing against four extra opponents, the Dees controlled much of the match. However, their inaccuracy in front of goal and inability to convert dominance in clearances and inside 50s ultimately cost them dearly, falling to a heartbreaking one-point loss on King’s Birthday.
