Is there any genuine key forward we could poach? We could have pushed for Josh Kennedy or Taylor Walker last year and we’d probably be playing this week if we did. Get the reasons we didn’t pursue the latter, but even the former would have been ideal. Even if we got someone for 1-2 years, perfect to fill the void whilst we are in the window as we wait for our talent to develop.

I’m not too sure of the ins and outs or the finer details but apparently there is a deal getting done. We will hear something on it when we hear it.

Josh Kennedy retired last year.

And? Wouldn’t have been the first player to ‘retire’ to do an about-turn and play for another side. Mal Michael did it. There’s been others.

He retired probably because he knew WCE would struggle, he achieved big things already, and didn’t see any reason to go around again with them. If an offer came out of the blue from a premiership contender, you never know what might have happened (presuming it didn’t happen).

Given you've left out the #ETtradewhispers tag, I am assuming you are being serious?

Left out the player too.....

Hearing Zac Fisher might be in the radar after some ‘player recommendation’ — I can see it from a pace perspective, would def add some outside pace to our depth pool.

Key Fwd wise, still not getting any names whatsoever bandied about apart from some surmising that the obvious— but still more dream-like — candidates are Hawkins, Walker, Larkey (24-25, — Whilst other names of muted interest are Jack Hayes, Fullarton, Day, Chol, Coleman-Jones, Reid among others prev mentioned.

Ruck wise it seems we’ll likely go to VFL, but why we’re not in Goldstein sweepstakes beats me, esp if he’s interested in playing behind Draper for “Success” — Got to be worth a chat surely.

Love the club at least asking question if Larkey, just wish it had of come 3m earlier!

Stay Tuned…

Confident of one is exact same I got LW, but for me a lot depends on Brown/McDonald decisions — fact we’re talking to Larkey about 2024, not this year could mean club expects them to stay, although Brown does at least appear 50/50 at this stage. He and Grundy cash would mean we could poach anyone willing I suppose.. it’s just unusual for a specific name not to have dropped yet, whether that means they’re still playing? Or were still playing, I don’t know!

Here’s to hoping they’ve pulled off a miracle, but if not some depth w/speed &/or quality kicking would be the focus.

He was rumored to be going back to Perf? I could be wrong.

Dow as well, don't think we'd be interested in him.

None of those names really inspire trading the fram for, i hope we go hard for pick 4 and load up for the future. Larkey i think is pure fantasy, although Hayes at the right price was handy, but if Saints are after Sheils i can't see them wanting to part with Hayes

Thanks Nudgey - keep us posted

Fisher is locked in for North.  They have offered him

5 years at stupid money . Fisher is soft as butter and hopefully we don’t go anywhere near him.

Lol this rumour was created by a fake Mitch Cleary account. 🤣

He signed a massive 6 year contract this year to 2029 and you believe a rumour that straight after he's signed this year he's already willing to talk to the dees?

Do you realise how stupid this now looks ?

Probably, but not locked yet, as they’re juggling many balls at north. Def not worth 5yrs at any sort of money. Player agent getting fellow-players to talk him up perhaps — happens ALOT!!!

Im all for rumors, and they should be taken at a grain of sale, but the above is 100% spot on. There is no way he would have signed if he was leaving.

He’s on the target list champ, I’m not talking about them having coffee with him like that fake post did you ignoramus!  Where do you think the rumour was extricated from? I don’t keep up with fake account updates, the same acc posted the Oliver rumours, which at the time the fake account thought was genuine news!!! I’ll take an apology in 18-24mths 🤦‍♂️ you really are a vicious numpty aren’t you Dazzle… Do I need to cover off the criteria again? A fake post means any mention of a side needing a key fwd, eyeing off one of the best most (viewed as) gettable young key fwds in game — is disqualified? If he WASNT on the radar every year then our recruitment team aren’t worth Jack!!! Same for King.

I think the McKay murmurings are Carlton dans preying for a massive draft bounty personally, but I can’t wait to aak today/tmrw about this no-name target, but if it ends up being someone like Hayes or CCJ I’d be a bit miffed!

You've been cat fish here mate.

I'm all for a good rumour drop but c'mon bro..

Btw ever seen the show catfish? Very interesting.....

On top of kicking 8 goals in his last game and knowing the talent that is coming through that joint, they'll easily play finals and contend while he's still around.

He's their marquee player who would be on huge coin at North and playing under one of the best coaches of the decade.

I think Larkey is very happy at Norf and North are happy with him.

They should be. He's a gun. 71 goals in a bottom 2 side and an AA jacket puts him in rare air. Other than perhaps Curnow he's the best young FPF in the league in my view.

Just as an aside, if a fit Larkey played for us in these finals, he would be getting a premiership medallion.

I’m presuming the rumour you heard that had you grinning wasn’t in regards to a key forward then, Nudge?

Tapping up a guy the year after he signed a 6 year deal?

Not completely impossible but I'd be seriously questioning his moral and brain compass. Especially if North improve next year.

Months. It's pure fantasy. North already losing Mckay, they're not going to let Larkey walk away from a freshly signed 6 year contract even if he declared he wanted out.

Any other options out there? Ben King gets talked about every year. What's his contract status? Free agent end of next year?

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

As the focus of the AFL moves exclusively to South Australia for Gather Round, the question is raised as to what are we going to get from the  Melbourne Football Club this weekend? Will it be a repeat of the slop fest of the last three weeks that have seen the team score a measly 174 points and concede 310 or will a return to the City of Churches and the scene where they performed at their best in 2024 act as a wakeup call and bring them out of their early season reverie?
Or will the sleepy Dees treat their fans to a reenactment of their lazy effort from the first Gather Round of two years ago when they allowed the Bombers to trample all over them on a soggy and wet Adelaide Oval? The two examples from above tell us how fickle form can be in football. Last year, a committed group of players turned up in Adelaide with a businesslike mindset. They had a plan, went in confidently and hard for the football and kicked winning scores against both home teams in a difficult environment for visitors. And they repeated that sort of effort later in the season when they played Essendon at the MCG. Unfortunately, performances like these went against the grain of what Melbourne has been producing from virtually midway through 2024 and extending right through to the present day. This is a game between two clubs who have faltered over the past couple of years because their disposal efficiency is appalling. Neither of them can hit the side of a barn door but history tells us that every once in a while such teams have their lucky days or come up against an opponent in even worse shape and hence, one of them will come up trumps in this match.

  • PREGAME: Essendon

Facing the very real and daunting prospect of starting the season with five straight losses, the Demons head to South Australia for the annual Gather Round, where they’ll take on the Bombers in search of their first win of the year. Who comes in, and who comes out?

  • NON-MFC: Round 05

Gather Round is here, kicking off with a Thursday night blockbuster as Adelaide faces Geelong. The Crows will be out for redemption after a controversial loss last week. Saturday starts with the Magpies taking on the Swans. Collingwood will be eager to cement their spot in the top eight, while Sydney is hot on their heels. In the Barossa Valley, two rising sides go head-to-head in a fascinating battle to prove they're the real deal. Later, Carlton and West Coast face off at Adelaide Oval, both desperate to notch their first win of the season. The action then shifts to Norwood, where the undefeated Lions will aim to keep their streak alive against the Bulldogs. Sunday’s games begin in the Barossa with Richmond up against Fremantle. In Norwood, the Saints will be looking to take a scalp when they come up against the Giants. The round concludes with a fiery rematch of last year's semi-final, as the Hawks seek revenge for their narrow loss to Port Adelaide. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?

  • CASEY: Geelong

There was a time in the second quarter of the game at the Cattery on Friday afternoon when the Casey Demons threatened to take the game apart against the Cats. The Demons had been well on top early but were struggling to convert their ascendancy over the ground until Tom Fullarton’s burst of three goals in the space of eight minutes on the way to a five goal haul and his best game for the club since arriving from Brisbane at the end of 2023. He was leading, marking and otherwise giving his opponents a merry dance as Casey grabbed a three goal lead in the blink of an eye. Fullarton has now kicked ten goals in Casey’s three matches and, with Melbourne’s forward conversion woes, he is definitely in with a chance to get his first game with the club in next week’s Gather Round in Adelaide. Despite the tall forward’s efforts - he finished with 19 disposals and eight marks and had four hit outs as back up to Will Verrall in the second half - it wasn’t enough as Geelong reigned in the lead through persistent attacks and eventually clawed their way to the lead early in the last and held it till they achieved the end aim of victory.

  • REPORT: Geelong

I was disappointed to hear Goody say at his post match presser after the team’s 39 point defeat against Geelong that "we're getting high quality entry, just poor execution" because Melbourne’s problems extend far beyond that after its 0 - 4 start to the 2025 football season. There are clearly problems with poor execution, some of which were evident well before the current season and were in play when the Demons met the Cats in early May last year and beat them in a near top-of-the-table clash that saw both sides sitting comfortably in the top four after round eight. Since that game, the Demons’ performances have been positively Third World with only five wins in 19 games with a no longer majestic midfield and a dysfunctional forward line that has become too easy for opposing coaches to counter. This is an area of their game that is currently being played out as if they were all completely panic-stricken.

  • NON-MFC: Round 04

Round 4 kicks off with a blockbuster on Thursday night as traditional rivals Collingwood and Carlton clash at the MCG, with the Magpies looking to assert themselves as early-season contenders and the Blues seeking their first win of the season. Saturday opens with Gold Coast hosting Adelaide, a key test for the Suns as they aim to back up their big win last week, while the Crows will be looking to keep their perfect record intact. Reigning wooden spooners Richmond have the daunting task of facing reigning premiers Brisbane at the ‘G and the Lions will be eager to reaffirm their premiership credentials after a patchy start. Saturday night sees North Melbourne take on Sydney at Marvel Stadium, with the Swans looking to build on their first win of the season last week against a rebuilding Roos outfit. Sunday’s action begins with GWS hosting West Coast at ENGIE Stadium, a game that could get ugly very early for the visitors. Port Adelaide vs St Kilda at Adelaide Oval looms as a interesting clash, with both clubs form being very hard to read. The round wraps up with Fremantle taking on the Western Bulldogs at Optus Stadium in what could be a fierce contest between two sides with top-eight ambitions. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?
