Trade rumours thread poster playbook:

1. Post a wide range of possibilities with sufficient plausible deniabilities, or use a vague riddle

2. Give little indication of source beyond "inside the club" or someone's grandmother

3. Claim to have some successes in the past, despite not really being the case

4. Define the word 'rumour' as justification

5. Generate reader interest, because what else is there to do when we're finished?

6. Work into a frenzy in the lead up to trade week, but remind us of *

7. Back peddle after trade week when 99% of the rumours fall flat

8. Post little for 12 months, rinse and repeat

I can imagine you reading glossy magazines in a doctor’s waiting room, and yelling “This is preposterous!”

You certainly post like a child mate.

Few people in here think the forum/posters owe them something.

Strange place to be.

Hopefully we can pull something off so we don’t have to be reading this thread in September 2024

The hill stuff was 💯 from someone AT the club AT the time,

Love a good trade rumour Nudge but these days claims of knowing someone ‘AT’ the club can be very tenuous. There are posters said to be from the Dees cheersquad in other threads claiming to basically have a direct line to Goody and Richo, so hard not to take a lot of ‘inside’ info on Demonland with a grain of salt.

Keep the rumours coming though. They’re fun and who knows you might just hit paydirt!

Ben McKay has chosen Essendon. Allegedly they offered less than Hawthorn. Fingers crossed it doesn't trigger band 1 but all the noise still points towards it.

Yeh will be interesting, aren't the AFL considering an assistance package to North?

Compensation could be part of that?

IMO he is a very ordinary footballer and I would imagine his contract is going to get a few noses out of joint, among his new team mates.

Might be a good time to scour the Bombers list for a disgruntled player, in an area we are light on in.

They are but the assistance they receive will be separate from free agency compensation.

That's not to say they won't influence or manipulate free agency compensation to what they want

Strong talk of pick 11 and even future picks being a part of an assistance package.

Could leave north with picks 2, 3, 11 and 14.

11 and 14 is probably the strongest hand for gold coast picks 4 (5 after fa compo)

They could very well end up with 2, 3 and 5.

You forgot to mention they have the widely agreed best Coach in the game as well.

Shiel to StK for cap space

This one is dodgy!!. Hope it's not cleared by the AFL... it's borderline tampering IMO. They offload Shiel and a high-ish pick, in return they pay Gresham (as a free agent) more than he is worth, and as a result the Saints get a 1st round compo is how it reads to me.
So basically Essendon are going to pay Gresham the same as they paid Shiel, they get a good pick from the Saints for doing it. In return the Saints land a higher compo pick than they deserve or would otherwise receive for a player like Gresham.

Don't forget this justification from the afl as well.

Melbourne has a high level of young talent including Jesse Hogan, Jimmy Toumpas, Jack Viney (father/son selection at 2012 draft), Jay Kennedy-Harris, Christian Salem and Dom Tyson.

- Melbourne was able to attract a number of experienced players during the 2013 Exchange period including Dom Tyson (2nd best and fairest), Bernie Vince (3rd best and fairest), Daniel Cross (5th best and fairest), Viv Michie (from Fremantle) and Aidan Riley (from Adelaide);

- Melbourne may be able to trade Mitch Clark for another player or a draft pick and will receive a compensation pick if they lose any players to free agency

It seems a lot but take pick 2 and Sanders approval out of the equation. Pick 2 is their rightful pick and word from Cal Twomey is they are unlikely to get Sanders approval.

So effectively they are getting pick 3 in and losing McKay, plus an assistance/concession pick 11. As hard as it is to do, put yourself in their shoes for a moment. They’ve won what 12 games and lost 77 over the past 4 years? That’s a bad run and a lot of pain for their supporters any way you slice it.

The AFL can’t be helping Gold Coast like they did and not North Melbourne. The league had to have a mechanism whereby they can address serious list issues at struggling clubs. The natural equalisation process of the draft is just not going to do the job sometimes.

I think we’re just a bit dirty as Melbourne supporters that we didn’t get as well looked after back in the early 2010’s when all got was pick 3 (Gus Brayshaw) for James Frawley (Free Agent). We didn’t get that extra mid first round pick (11) that the Kangas look like they’re going to receive.

Whatever, I would lose any sleep over it. Not all those young North players you’ve listed will be superstars, but they’ll certainly have the nucleus of a side in 2-3 seasons which should challenge for the top 8. And that’s probably how it should be. You can’t have the same miserable clubs anchored to the bottom four for 10 plus years.

In fairness we got band 1 compo for Frawley and there was no way he was worth it

Personally i think West Coast will get getting Daniel Curtin as well, so one way or another i suspect North will end up with Harley Reid

He is streets ahead of McKay and got a fat contract from the Hawks. A premiership full back.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Port Adelaide

The undefeated Demons venture across the continent to the spiritual home of the Port Adelaide Football Club on Saturday afternoon for the inaugural match for premiership points between these long-historied clubs. Alberton Oval will however, be a ground familiar to our players following a practice match there last year. We lost both the game and Liv Purcell, who missed 7 home and away matches after suffering facial fractures in the dying moments of the game.

  • AFLW REPORT: Richmond

A glorious sunny afternoon with a typically strong Casey Fields breeze favouring the city end greeted this round four clash of the undefeated Narrm against the winless Tigers. Pre-match, the teams entered the ground through the Deearmy’s inclusive banner—"Narrm Football Weaving Communities Together and then Warumungu/Yawuru woman and Fox Boundary Rider, Megan Waters, gave the official acknowledgement of country. Any concerns that Collingwood’s strategy of last week to discombobulate the Dees would be replicated by Ryan Ferguson and his Tigers evaporated in the second quarter when Richmond failed to use the wind advantage and Narrm scored three unanswered goals.

  • CASEY: Frankston

The late-season run of Casey wins was broken in their first semifinal against Frankston in a heartbreaking end at Kinetic Stadium on Saturday night that in many respects reflected their entire season. When they were bad, they committed all of the football transgressions, including poor disposal, indiscipline, an inability to exert pressure, and some terrible decision-making, as exemplified by the period in the game when they conceded nine unanswered goals from early in the second quarter until halfway through the third term. You rarely win when you do this.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.
