What did Taylor see in him? Any pre-darft highlights?

Bit of a strange selection if I can remember back. Based in his form as a bottom ager. Great evasion in congestion, creativity and pretty decent kick. Tested ok but not particularly quick. To me, he doesn't look rock hard fit like Bowey and others. As others have said, a strange body shape. Very bottom heavy. Coming into his third year he has time but needs to produce more games like the VFL game against Geelong last year where he went 30 (possessions) and 3 (goals).

Channel 9 news reported about 9 days ago that someone trodded on his foot at training and that he was ruled out for the Saints game but the club expected him to play some minutes against Richmond.

Hopefully it’s just precaution, he’ll play some minutes in the VFL next week (if there is a praccy game) and be ok for round 1.

Anyone attend training this week and can advise of his progress?

Thanks mate, I’ve been doing some big hours lately and missed it.

I’d go Woey for Viney and have;

Emer: Hibbo, Howes, Laurie, JVR.

But there’s an opportunity for Hibbo in and Gus on ball, and a look at JVR isn’t crazy but I don’t think it’s likely.

Howes and Laurie probably only subs.

The Club is keeping this under wraps. All that’s left for fans is what’s reported in the media and as the old saying goes, don’t believe everything you read.

I’m confused. So we shouldn’t believe that it’s just a bruised foot because it’s actually much worse?

Effectively second year as his first year was virtually a write-off with injury. That game at the ground formerly known Kardinia Park was oddly memorable. Heavily rain affected, Casey dominated in the first quarter 6 goals to zilch and consequently went missing allowing the Geelong side to dominate the 2nd and 3rd quarters. Last quarter Casey seemingly awoke from its lethargy and kicked 5 goals to swing the momentum massively  and take the win. Bailey Laurie was the match winner IMO, given the conditions a most impressive all game wet weather performance.

Can only imagine Lever’s ankle is 100% cherry ripe.

Be unlike the MFC to take a risk.

Probably be off at some stage getting it restrapped again.

That's how I would interpret her post. Coming up to a month now with no training. I'd imagine we won't be seeing him in the early parts of the season.

I meant that if the Club is keeping it quiet, then anything you read or see in the media can’t be reliable info.

Like many injuries, the prognosis changes as time goes on. Fritta is an unusually fast healer and is significantly ahead of where he’s expected to be atm. I can’t say anything more about it, but it’s not hot bath/razor blade time.

Can you say how confident the club is that he won’t miss round 1?

No, I can’t. That’s because Fritta himself isn’t necessarily given a ready-by date. But he’s always informed of his progress and to date he is well ahead.

Sad about JJ bring so far down the picking order.  Bit surprised to see Laurie up (but happy for Laurie to have an opportunity)

Yes very surprised that JJ is not playing especially when Laurie and Woey are.

I don’t mind giving young guys a go just very surprised JJ isn’t playing.

It’s not necessarily the pecking order. They might just want Laurie to get a game day experience as sub and allow JJ to focus on the reserves game.

But my opinion on the Casey portion of last week was Woey was the best of them anyway, whilst JJ would still be my pick if it was a home and away game due to experience/strength.

I know you don’t want to leak anything that you shouldn’t and I’m ok with that but why wouldn’t the club just come out and say what’s what? I don’t understand why it’s so secret unless they need to conceal it so it’s not exploited during season proper.

That’s exactly the reason. There’s no harm in keeping it quiet but there’s a potential for harm in making it public.

I’ll be at his mum’s birthday party next Friday and while I won’t betray his family’s confidence, I’ll observe him closely since his mum says we’ll know how he’s travelling based on his dancing prowess. True story 😁

From what you’ve told me privately WCW, I’m hoping that Fritta has now responded well to the strong antibiotics and as a result amputation of his infected big toe is no longer necessary? Can you at least confirm that?

They’re actually lopping the whole foot, NC. The logic is you can’t injure something that ain’t there no mo. 👍🏽

Let's leave Fritta and WCW alone for now and get back on track with the practice game tomorrow. Will be watching on Fox up here in Qld and expect a good work out as the Tigers have a pretty good team. Likewise us so should be a cracking game providing the wind down there at Casey is kind.

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
