We should definitely analyse everything anyone says about Kozzie to within an inch of its life. That's usually a pretty good practice.

What you think Trac will say "nah he's gone" 🙄

I watched thebi tee ire Trac. It’s hard with Trac - he starts saying he’s super confident, then once pressed was less certain. End of the interview I was just confused.

I guess you could say he was confident until he wasn't.

That’s a big call I don’t think anyone was definitive on LJ come to think of it.

They are close and let’s hope he knows.

Like everyone else.

My words of wisdom from no internal knowledge of these things ...

If he goes, he goes, if he stays he stays.
Until he makes a decision, save your breath.

I asked Trent Rivers about Kozzie at the season launch last Wednesday, he told me the whole team is working on him to stay.  He seemed pretty confident Kozzie would stay, he said he loves it at Melbourne.  Hopefully Trent was right!

Exactly, we'll live longer that way too.

Going by his comment it is safe to say Rivers will extend his own contract which expires this year.🙂

Also, Wikipedia says Kozzy is the nephew of Byron Pickett (which we all know) AND Neville Jetta.  Can anyone confirm or deny that?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kysaiah_Pickett

That was made known when he first came to Melbourne, he was living with "Uncle Nev" when he first came to the club.

One of his cousins is a student at my school, she is a Wanganeen.  He has family in WA, SA and Vic.

And Trent himself? ✍️

Hopefully!  The way he comes across he seems very happy.

I've been told that as long as he gets the money he's happy with he will be staying.

I'd say his deal will be done early on in the season.

Unless he’s confided in one teammate or a small clique of teammates, the players don’t yet know. The whole playing group is hella close so you’d imagine if one knew, they’d all eventually know.

If that's the case, I say pay him what he wants and get this deal done now. No point dragging out the inevitable and encouraging unnecessary, destabilising noise from the likes of Kane Cornes.

What would be a fair deal for Rivers as a 2nd level defender in one of the AFLs best or the best defences?

4 x 450k  ---1.8mil?

I thought that comment was more related to Trent Rivers not Pickett?

FYI this is regarding Rivers.

I have no intel on Pickett.

More like 3/4 * $250-$300.  Usually, the longer the term the less money.

Freo offered Acres about $150-200k, grossly undervaluing him (to help get Jackson).  They upped it a little bit but he went to Carlton anyway:

"Acres is one of a number of Fremantle players who were offered below-par contracts to stay at the club, with the Blues pouncing on the chance to secure the 26-year-old on a three-year deal at around $350,000 per season".

Just can't see Rivers who is still only 21 and yet to cement himself in the best 22 getting the same as Acres.

I think as fans we tend to overestimate what players get paid especially those outside the top 5-10.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

The media focus on the fiery interaction between Max Gawn and Steven May at the end of the game was unfortunate because it took away the gloss from Melbourne’s performance in winning almost everywhere but on the scoreboard in its Kings Birthday clash with Collingwood at the MCG. It was a real battle reminiscent of the good old days when the rivalry between the two clubs was at its height and a fitting contest to celebrate the 2025 Australian of the Year, Neale Daniher and his superb work to bring the campaign to raise funds for motor neurone disease awareness to the forefront. Notwithstanding the fact that the Magpies snatched a one point victory from his old club, Daniher would be proud of the fact that his Demons fought tooth and nail to win the keenly contested game in front of 77,761 fans.

  • POSTGAME: Collingwood

Despite effectively playing against four extra opponents, the Dees controlled much of the match. However, their inaccuracy in front of goal and inability to convert dominance in clearances and inside 50s ultimately cost them dearly, falling to a heartbreaking one-point loss on King’s Birthday.
