Clarry smashed it. Goody was over the moon, they embraced several times. He is set for a ripper. Looking thin, nearly wirey. He is also showing some leadership qualities.

Trent Burgoyne training with us in hope to pick up a rookie spot.

Wish it was Jase Burgoyne rather than Trent. Jase looks the goods.

What's the go with two different players wearing the same number? We don't have enough jumpers in the skinny, extra-long size? Or do the two players have to face off against each other to see who wins the coveted Allan Jarrott number?

No numbers are finalised. As per usual our new apparel hasn’t arrived yet so the numbers are size fits. Hence Grundy being in Jackson’s old jumper and Hunter being in Bedfords😂

Wonder if there will be a report that doesn’t have to follow the name Joel Smith with the words ‘light duties’ or ‘rehab group’? Drafted in 2016 next season will be his 7th AFL season for 28 games. Hope the poor bugger is luckier in love that he is with injuries.

I was thinking the same thing, not so much about his love life though. Could do with a full preseason so as to get him strong and resilient. Hope they are just being cautious and he gets into it soon. Mainly worked the bike and not the rowing machine.

Sestan - 5 days and 1 training session in and he’s already looking leaner and more like an afl player

At this rate, by Wednesday, he'll be more ripped than Trac.

Mate of mine said he saw him wandering around Eppworth Hospital a week or two back. No idea if as a patient or visitor.

Kev, love to get your early thoughts on JVR & Jefferson. How are they both looking on the track?

Obviously don't think MJ will play much AFL in 2023, but keen to get your thoughts on how he looks as a future key forward option.

Yep..

But hey, let's re-sign him to a new 2 year deal as a reward..

JVR looking great. In the sims he was their go to man a few times. Lovely hands, good lead and double back. Easily got away from Lever, though Lever had to work on two attackers and regularly had to guard the space.

Need more time to look at Jefferson,  appears to be doing most things adequately,  except goaling which he does effortlessly. His fitnees not up to scratch yet, endurance is lacking. He has the posture type where his head is slouched forward, wish someone would tell him to stand up straight.

Cheers. Pumped to see JVR in the seniors this year!

Jefferson definitely looks like he needs 2 preseasons to be close to selection at this stage. Holding out hope he can build his tank and body size over the next 2 years to potentially look at playing late 2024 or 2025. Potentially he could be played as a third tall early days.

Geez he looked good didn't he, I was up close to that sim and couldn't be more impressed. He's got a bit of a strut going already JVR.

Quiet, I think he is just going about his business, I get the sense that he doesn't want to ruffle the feathers as a new addition to the team. Focusing on cohesion and comradeship.

He is the sort of guy who should have been made to earn a new contract as a train on player, rather than being gifted a 2 year deal based on hopes and dreams.

Meaning: show you can get through a couple of months of training without breaking down again, and you can have a spot on our list.

I think Jefferson will be a pure forward.

Our third talls, could be TMac, BBB, and Tomlinson. They were all doing ruck work at some stages, together with Grundy and Max.

Verral was mainly on the outside of the squad today. He did kicking in a small group and some physical training all under supervision of a coach.

You don't think the coaching staff know what they are getting after 7 years? You think the extra month of early pre-season training is going to give them some sort wonderful new insight into him that the previous 7 pre-seasons have not provided?

He hasn't been gifted 2 years, the football department have decided that they want him on the list for the next 2 years because he's better than any alternative that they could have drafted.

I have no doubt he will be handled with kid gloves but maybe  a half forward flank role might suit if he has the mobility and pace to create chances in the early days on the third tall after moving around the forward line.

Any chance of fast forwarding MJ differently to JVR who really seems a KPF in style and physique and movement.

Was Petty sighted ?

Cheers snd thanks.

One segment that naturally came into focus was Binman’s Stats Files. Not because it isn’t important; quite the opposite. It’s become such a substantial and much-loved part of the show that it deserves a little room to breathe.

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

One of the big stories of the AFL off-season was the spending spree of Melbourne’s Round 1 opponent, St Kilda. They splashed out heavily, first to retain Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera - the hero of last year’s epic come-from-behind miracle victory -turning him into a $2 million man. They then effectively took out an expensive overdraft to recruit a string of expensive players from other clubs. It was a risky investment strategy and, although it’s still early days, it certainly failed to pay off in Sunday’s season opener, with much of the glitter turning to fool’s gold.
