If they beat Carlton this week, they will be 11-1 coming into KB. They are not losing any of the two games before us.

Yeah it's probably fair to say they've banked a top 4 spot. Would take a sizable collapse to miss from here.

How much of an advantage is it for teams who play either WCE NTH or HAW twice, Just not fair.

Checks notes;

Melbourne are still yet to play  Nth and Haw a second time. 😉

A bit of solid speculation tonight on SEN of the following MFC fixtures:

@ St Kilda - Saturday day or night, Marvel

v Brisbane - Friday night, MCG

@ Carlton - Saturday night, MCG

I heard that, but Sam Edmund also said that in Round 19 Port v Coll would be Friday night. That can’t be right as that round has three Marvel games (and no Thursday night that week). So his mail can’t be 100% right I don’t think.

the three round 19 games at marvel are:

  • peptides vs footscray (likely friday nite?)
  • bluebaggers vs meth coke (likely saturday twilight?)
  • the aints vs north (like sunday twilight?)

three fizzers when you consider the bears vs puddy tatts (gabba), pear vs filth (the oval), and our match-up vs crom (the g) are arguably - ten rounds out - the most 'attractive' games

Yep, good point. One of the Marvel games needs to be Friday night, as much as they'd love the Port V Collingwood game to be Friday night. (unless they're entertaining the idea of a Saturday Marvel double header which would be very unlikely)

Here is another example of why Thursday night football needs to be a permanent 24 week timeslot for fixture flexibility.

If Edmund's mail isn't 100% as you pointed out, there is still a chance that Melbourne V Brisbane could be the Sunday 3:20 or Saturday 7:25pm slots on channel 7.

Pretty keen to see the remainder of the fixture released. I'm going to Alice Springs, it would be nice to know when our match is.

Me too, but I have booked my flight into Alice on the 28th (Wednesday) just to be safe

The funny thing with melbourne supporters is that 99% of us want games to be Saturday 2:10pm or Sunday 1:10pm and not prime time night games. (I don't care, id be at the game if it was at 3am)

We are likely to have a Friday night against Brisbane, Saturday night against St Kilda and Carlton. Saturday arvo against Adelaide, Hawthorn and North and Sunday arvo against Richmond. Personally I think our game against Adelaide deserves Friday night, but the Pies are going to get it that week and I think the Richmond game may end up Friday night as well (Collingwood v Carlton often ends up as the Sudnay 3:20pm).

They can’t and likely won’t get Thursday nights every week. It’s only possible with multiple 5-day breaks per side, which I believe AFLPA will resist.

Perhaps avoiding rounds with three games at one venue will avoid this situation.

I see we are staying with the 2:30pm timeslot for the grand final.

I'm not too fussed but it amuses me that we kick up a fuss about the GF time yet every other game is moved hither and thither to satisfy television etc.

7pm start for me fwiw but I'd be happy with 6pm. A 4pm start seems to be neither fish nor fowl. (a bit like 19 teams ...we all know the next move.)

The AFL Commission has decided that the start time for the 2023 grand final will remain at the traditional 2.30pm start.

The 2023 decider will be played at the MCG on Saturday, September 30. An AFL source who was not authorised to speak confirmed the Commission reached the decision on Wednesday afternoon.

https://www.theage.com.au/sport/afl/afl-decides-against-twilight-grand-final-20230517-p5d8y8.html

PS I do worry however that a 2:30pm start time is not good for our hundreds of millions of viewers in China and India but I suppose it does work for West Coast USA and the millions of Las Vegas punters wanting to get a part of the action.

I prefer 2:30pm, 3:20pm like Sundays with a 6pm finish would be fine also.  I couldn't stand waiting all day Saturday for it to happen, and then if we won, the medal ceremony and lap of honour going well past 11pm.  I want a full evening and night of celebration.

it is all set up for us to win the last ever day Flag. a down year, big preseason, pretty healthy list.

i could die a happy man if i could see us win it in person

No way DD. Andrew Dillon has already marked his opinion quickly with this decision and his answer on 360 on his CEO elect day to a Gerard W question.

Serves well the 2.30 day but twilight in Perth hours was still fine. Still enough hours to celebrate and follow up on Sunday.

Good spread of time slots there aside from no Saturday afternoon games in Melbourne..

Assuming Carlton will be on Saturday night and Hawthorn will be Saturday arvo/twilight or Sunday arvo.

Is it just me or Saturday afternoon turned into a timeslot for the mediocre sides and/or low drawing games?

Channel 7 want better games in the Sunday 3.20pm slot, which is I think why Sat arvo is no longer premium.

Fully updated now, loads of Sunday 3:20 games

I don't mind the Sunday 3:20.

However, for a team that's gone about 49-17-1 since the Port debacle in 2020, we're certainly not a prominent Friday night team during the home and away season, particularly in VIC.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int
