Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Answer: A potential TV audience of 5 million in Sydney. The AFL needs to keep Sydney (the team) in the sight of Sydney (the people of the city), especially when both Sydney (the team) and GWS are having poor years.

Do you penalise like for other teams say the swans because it's not a good look the look the way they have been losing.
Sometimes  poor exposure is the beginning of the end for some fans who shy away from watching. Seeing Buddy play last week made the Freo game awful almost embarrassing as Amiss Treacy and Jacko starred and Buddy ( who was ill they say )prob got that from Chris Scot!!
No it's a raffle this TV game as well Reith the usual AFL indifference to many of its decisions.
At least they could recruit a champion excuse and generally untruthful defender of poor judgement  likeScott Morrison to further confuse the masses.

Can imagine that 7 will want it in case it is Lance's last game. Saturday night or Sunday 3:20 would be the only available times. Saturday night more likely imo for a bigger audience,

Here is my round 24 crack.

Friday night 7:50pm
Brisbane V St Kilda - Prime time Friday night with St Kilda possibly facing a "win and in"

Saturday 1:45pm games (Saturday games have become a bit of a grave yard slot so I'll put the inconsequential games here)
Hawthorn V Fremantle
North V Gold Coast

Saturday 4:05/4:35pm
Port V Richmond - Stand alone game with Richmond possibly facing a "win and in"

Saturday night - 7:25pm
Geelong V Bulldogs - home finals or top 8 at stake for these two sides demand Ch 7 prime time.
Sydney V Melbourne - Would have made this ch 7 prime time but it's now uncertain if this is Buddy's SCG farewell.

Sunday 12:40
Essendon V Collingwood - Something a bit different. If Essendon are out of business then I'm putting this game on Foxtel. The crowds will still flock for an early arvo game and I want Carlton V GWS to be stand alone.

Sunday 3:20
Carlton V GWS - prime time Sunday arvo Ch 7 time slot for what appears to be a "win and in" game for either side. What an exciting finale.

Sunday 6:10/4:10
West Coast V Adelaide - Likely to be inconsequential so happy to have this as a late game to give Carlton V GWS all the attention. Still early enough for Perth locals at 4:10pm.

Brisbane St Kilda should have 0% chance of being on the Friday night. Brisbane should and will wallop them, but it's Gill's beloved Saints...

For me, Carlton Giants should be the Friday night game, 7th v 8th likely coming into the game and two sides that play enjoyable football. They also both play on the Saturday in round 23 so no issues with 5-day breaks.

West Coast V Adelaide should be played at 3am Monday morning.

Happy with that option. However the AFL love to create an exciting final round Sunday so they might leave Carlton V GWS for Sunday.

Agreed that St Kilda should not be on Friday night, and my choice was contingent on them still being relevant by round 24. The networks would like Brisbane on Friday night due to their offensive brand of footy (most weeks). Perhaps Dons V Pies for Friday night, especially if Essendon are still relevant.

And yep, there's no timeslot bad enough to show the WCE v Adel game.

Just posted this on the AFLW Fixture thread in error…

Gotta love the AFL: Gather Round 2024 is sorted nine months out but still won’t reveal the times and dates for the last H&A round this year, which begins in less than four weeks. 🙄

Last week we were told the announcement of such would be made on Sunday just gone. But because of the unexpected number of upsets on the weekend, they’re scrambling to come up with a round 24 fixture that will maximise TV viewing. I’m paraphrasing but that’s in essence what they’ve said. The cheek!

We all know it’s the TV audience numbers that dictates these things but ffs there’s still many of us who attend matches and they’re not making things easy. Flights and accommodation are so expensive as it is but when you have to go interstate earlier and/or stay there longer so as to cover all possible game times it’s all the more difficult to afford.

I’m often asked if the Club pay for some/all of our costs and the answer is no, they don’t. We choose to go. *We even use our luggage allowance to take all our gear. Our Club is so supportive of us but no one expects them to pay for us to attend interstate matches.

*just a little brag… MFC boasts the highest rate of cheer squad interstate travelling, that’s in terms of numbers of members as well as frequency. We’re almost as full when interstate as we are at home.

*puts trumpet down*

Anyways, whinge sesh done and dusted. 😉

It is pretty annoying that we still don't know when we play in Round 24.

I am heading up to Queensland that weekend for an early birthday celebration, and was hoping to arrange a time in the schedule so we can watch the game, but it's taken the AFL that long to sort it out, we had to arrange other stuff in the meantime.

I would have guessed we would play the Saturday night for Buddy's farewell, but with that now off the table, we may well get an afternoon slot.

It definitely won’t be the Friday night because that would mean a five-day break. I’m thinking same as you: Saturday night for the Buddy Show might now be scheduled for the Sunday afternoon.

Hopefully round 24 is not Saturday afternoon.

Driving up to Sydney on Saturday morning with the expectation the game will be Saturday twilight, Saturday night or Sunday.

Saturday arvo is usually reserved for dud games such as Nth/GC or Hawks/Freo. Therefore I don't expect our game will be on the Saturday arvo given Sydney are well and truly in the hunt.

Unfortunately I will not be able to watch a second of the match LIVE if the Sydney game is on Saturday night. Hoping for an afternoon or a Sunday timeslot but I reckon you can bet the house on a Saturday night.

Saturday twighlight or Sunday 1:10pm most likely. Brisbane Saints, Port Richmond, Geelong Dogs all have finals implication so reckon two of those get saturday night. Pies Bombers and Carlton Giants for the other Channel 7 slots.

What we're seeing here with the delayed release of the Round 24 fixture is yet another reason why the 17-5 fixture model should never see the light of day.

We'd get 1-2 weeks' notice for the first game of that block. We're at 4 weeks right now and it's (rightly) causing fans to be frustrated.

My view on Round 24 is that we're a Saturday night chance, if Sydney are going to use the game as a Buddy farewell - will be on FTA TV and will give him a send-off. And that's without considering if Sydney are playing for finals, which is a very high possibility.

We can't be the Friday night as we're the Sunday in Round 23 and won't be given another 5-day break. I suspect Essendon v Collingwood will be the Sunday 3.20pm game, which will draw a crowd and a TV audience even if Essendon can't make finals (but will be enormous, like Carlton v Collingwood last year, if Essendon are in a "win and in" situation).

I reckon one of Brisbane v St Kilda and Carlton v GWS for the Friday night, as those look to be certainties to have top 4, top 6 or top 8 ramifications.

If they choose to wait for yet another round of footy and release it next week, and Sydney gets done this weekend, then that puts them down to about 12th spot on the ladder and unlikely to make the finals. Therefore a non marquee timeslot such as Saturday 4:35 or Sunday 1:10pm would be more likely for round 24.

If Sydney beat GWS, then they could be in the top 8, and therefore a rd 24 Saturday night game could well be on the cards.

With that being said, the fixture could get released tomorrow for all we know. Last year it got released 26 July.

Round 24 times still not out despite it being only 18 days away. Good luck trying to plan a trip up to Sydney within that timeframe.

Given Sydney are becoming more relevant by the week, I think we can almost rule out the Saturday afternoon time slot which is increasingly becoming the time slot for dud games.

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P
