Unpopular opinion here but I hope Fremantle win tonight.

Essendon have a joke of a fixture in late July/August (Nth, Wc, Syd, GWS) and are a legitimate chance to take our spot in the top 4.

They will drop 1 or 2 of those...

I hope they win tonight, their next 4 are tough.

If they can make top 4 with that draw they deserve it.

You really can be a glass 1/2 empty kind of person at times.

I don’t hope Essendon win tonight.

They’re nipping at our heels for a top 4 spot and I expect them to beat Port next week (post bye theory) and then Adelaide at Marvel. Then their easy fixture commences shortly after.

They're not that good.

If we can't win 7 of our next 9 we won't make top 4 & don't deserve too.

I think we will.

EFC won't have anything to do with it...can't see them winning 8 of 10.

They will be lucky to win tonight, I hope they do.

Well I want a better pick so I want every team to beat Freo.
I don’t care about those around us. If we are good enough we make the top 4 on our merit. Maybe having to scrap for a top four might get us actually going.

I'm in the minority that want the bombers to win evidently. Give me them low picks and watch the bombers get knocked out in the first elimination final and build false hope.

I think you’re in the Majority that want the Bombers to win.

I’m in the minority that want Essendon to lose tonight (and in future weeks) so we can get as much top 4 breathing space as we can from the likes of Essendon, Bulldogs, St Kilda etc..

My second best bet of the round (lions to cover their line was #1) - Freo to cover their minus 5.5 line.

The only reason i'm not more bullish is the predicted rain creates some variables

Fair enough, I mainly read anti-bomber sentiment which I completely understand.

We don't know how the rest of the season will play out so I will be content for Freo to win and give us some breathing space.  Hanging out for the possibility of better draft picks is less important than getting into the top 4.   And feels (in a weird sort of way) like 'supporter tanking'.

Our window is now.  Don't need some star pick who may (or may not) develop in a few years.  (On the other hand, I realise a low pick may give us a trade to get what we need now.)

Also, I hate Essendon.

We are in the now but aren’t performing like a genuine now yeah and a low pick from Freo might give us a good kid who does come in ect year and perform. Look at how some top 10 picks are playing across the league. Sheezel would slot in nicely to our team.

Sure, but no quarantee that a 'ready-to-go year 1' player will be available to fit our specific needs, or that they won't be available a spot or two lower in the draft.   I'm happy to leave it to Freo to lose to teams that are no threat to us.

Dees currently with pick 5 with Sydney comfortably ahead of freo on percentage.

Still want essendon to win.

I'm of the view that if we have to hope for teams around us to fail for us to qualify for top 4 then we aren't much chop anyway. Let freo fall as far as possible and put top 4 in our own hands.

Either way I'll be happy tonight.

Bombers win helps our draft hand. If we fear them taking our top 4 spot, then we have much bigger problems.

Freo win and I'll get to enjoy a bombers loss.

It’s the way I’m looking at it.

But the idea of Bell failing badly makes me want a Freo loss each and every week!

Oath.

Cannot believeee people are riding on the hope of other teams falling around us.

We will dictate our position by wins and losses. And at the moment, we look a mile off a top four side.

We should be riding a Freo loss every game, regardless of who they play.

Who else really looks like a top 4 side ?

Never cheered for a draw before but there is always a first.

Anyone worrying about Essendon taking our spot in the top 4 will be breathing a little easier watching this game. No way are they a top 4 team.

HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. There’s a drill where Selwyn literally lies on top of Tracc, a trainer dribbles the ball towards them and Tracc has to g

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
