We get to talk about top picks AND top 4 finals! What bat [censored] crazy world is this?

It's almost like we are Jeelong! 😄

Serong is an absolute star of the competition. It's akin to saying no to the fresh water cray thanks me wants fish fingers

It is and ive been guilty of thinking this way for a while as well. But the last 6-8 weeks has shown me that KPF are not the be all and end all.

We need kicking skills in our side desperately. This year using (potentially) two top 10 picks to bring in 2 elite midfielders will provide us an enormous uplift in our ball movement department. If we go by the likes of Norf in securing a player similar to Sheezel, i can see them certainly adding some run off half back for year 1. This then allows us to move Bowey or Salem into HF and Rivers into the middle or a few other options. You can then look at having Oliver, Rivers, Viney, Sparrow, Brayshaw as a midfield group, Trac as a 70/30 forward and our team looks immeasurably different with talent spread more evenly across the ground.

If the Hawks can jag one win before the last round and WC gets up in the game with Freo round 24 could see a good old fashioned tanking game between the Hawks and Freo!
Maybe if we win our next four and lock away a double chance we could rest all our players to throw our round 23 game against the Hawks to improve our draft picks (joking!!! Joking!!! Don’t come at me!)

The other thing to consider is that we have a bit of a glut of A and B+ grade mids in something like the 25 - 28 yo age bracket.

We need a few more future A grade mids comming through underneath in the 18 - 20 yo bracket, so we don't end up the Hawthorn/Eagles/Richmond in another 3 or 4 years.

All the cool kids are going on about the failure of Gawndy, interestingly i haven't heard much (i must admit i don't listen that closely anymore these days), about the failure of Darcy and Jackson.

Looks like Jacko has the ruck duties for a couple of weeks, i think it will suit him.

Haha thank you for updating. I completely forgot about Lukes kid

I don't think Freo have a lot of excuses personally, I think they really just need to look in the mirror.

They lost some key veterans and placed their hopes in a 21 year old kid who, in my opinion, doesn't deserve the kind of money they are paying (at least not yet, maybe in 3 or 4 more years).

Makes me happy to see all the failures/mistakes from Peter Bell

There should be just as much talk on the 2 ruck situation at Freo this week as there is around Grundy and Gawn in my opinion.

This is my favourite thread! It means nearly every game has a bearing on our draft hand and therefore creates interest

fair enough.

This would have to be the hottest thread in all footy club forums right now if they were doing a top 10 excluding gameday threads.

There is no incentive for Hawthorn to keep winning games the best pick we will get is 4

Surely you dont believe Hawthorn will lay down against us in a few weeks time?  I give them a chance against Richmond this weekend. Richmond struggled most of the day against a WAFL team .  Martin got a goal on the final siren ( a free?).

IMO we're already winners. Even if Fremantle win a stack of games from here, they won't make finals, so their first pick is going to be a top 10 pick.

So we got 13 last year, a top 10 this year, and Fremantle's second rounder this year too (at worst, something like 30), for Jackson and last year's 44 and 67. I'm happy with that, all things considered. It's a bonus if Fremantle struggle and stay closer to the bottom 4.

The only time this thread lost the plot was on the 1st day of July when posters actually wanted the Dogs to beat Freo which therefore had them equal on points on us in the pursuit of top 4.

Top 4 > a couple of draft picks higher up the board.

I wonder if posters will be cheering Brisbane and Port to beat Freo if top 2 is still a live chance for us?

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Collingwood

Narrm time isn’t a standard concept—it’s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

  • AFLW REPORT: St. Kilda

The Dees demolished the Saints in a comprehensive 74-pointshellacking.  We filled our boots with percentage — now a whopping 520.7% — and sit atop the AFLW ladder. Melbourne’s game plan is on fire, and the competition is officially on notice.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.
