I wonder what happened. Is it complacency? He rarely seemed to be anywhere near the ball and when he was, was out of position and unable to affect his opponents let alone get his own mitts on it.

This is a player whom every recruitment manager salivated over and who looked like being a combination Goodes & Bontempelli rolled into one.

Would we look at getting Darcy as the long term replacement for Gawn? Under his and Grundy’s guidance he can be anything. He’s very talented. Just needs a proper fitness and conditioning regime and some actual coaching.

I was in the 2 more years camp. I thought that he was in the sweet spot and was loving being with us.

I swear i didnt bring a curse to cockburn when had watched them train 2 weeks ago. They didnt seem to have intensity tho

He’d be a great replacement but the timing is off unless he becomes available in 3 years. The tap brothers are in situ until then I reckon.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing but wonder if Freo had their time again they'd save the draft picks and money and instead go full throttle for Aaron Naughton?

Peter Bellend has gone and stuffed what was developing as a good list build. Rather than going to the draft again or using the picks to address an actual need, he got distracted by the shiny thing. His mistake, our gain.

People thought we sold the farm for Lever. Sometimes it takes a while to settle in a new environment, we should know this. I still believe Jackson will be a very good player.

Darcy turns 25 in June.

While I would have happily taken him as part of a swap for Jackson, with Gawn and Grundy on our list, he would be crazy to come to Melbourne and be 3rd string ruck between the ages of 25-28.

If he moves it'll be to be first ruck somewhere, or understudy (second fiddle) to a single (end of career) ruck.

I think Jackson has the potential to be a star, but likely will carve out a solid career as a regular player who never quite achieves his lofty potential.

Having moved to Freo there is also a chance the added pressure will be too much ala Tom Boyd. There is a risk they move him on of he doesn't perform quickly and they need to clear cap space.

At 0-2 and having lost to St Kilda and North, they are looking precarious.

With that start it is a rare season that makes finals.

But even if they do improve, it would be unprecedented to make top 4 from here, which is a massive win for us.

I think Jackson has the potential to be one of the better players in the league but, as we know, environment and culture are huge factors in developing talent.

Fremantle has a poor record of developing imported talent.  It may be the club, the city, the perth media or the fact that they repeatedly pay a huge price in salary and picks for ‘savours’.

The pressure and expectation is immense and the likelihood of disrupting the harmony of a playing list is high.  They trade away role players to make room for big names.  

Their recent drafting has been strong and they’ve brought in solid lesser name trades, but the big fish seem to come back to bite them.

Hogan, Bennell, McCarthy, Lobb… Jackson?

Still a bit of water to go under the bridge.

While it's a slow start we are only 2 games in. 

I know Jacko hasn't delivered yet, but I think Freos problems are more about the slow game plan rather than the players.

There is still time for them to adjust.

It's a massive win for us if they don't make the finals.

Even just finishing 9th and we'll get picks 10 and 28 to go with last year's pick 13. Points equivalent of pick 2 (2517 points) for the trade.

Drop to 11th and it's points equivalent to pick 1 (3000 points) they've given us!

There is evidence building that he may just not be as good as we all thought he’d be… it happens.

I didn’t think they were top 4. I was quietly confident they would miss the 8. They were slow and ponderous towards the back end of last season. Teams had moved on and found them out (same way as we had been found out). Their forward line is a mess as well. Big problems for longmuir to sort out.

A bonus about their losses the controversial finish will feed in nicely into freo's fans and players sense of the world is out to get them and the Jackson recruitment is a curse that will condemn them to mediocrity until his retirement.

I'm certainly familiar with the first part but I digress. Freo has a very good draw and LJ won't continue to play at that low level.

Jackson had an easy ride developing in Max Gawn’s slipstream and our powerhouse midfield. Looks like he was expecting the same easy ride at Freo off Darcy and crew. Mundy is now gone and Fyfe is burned out, tall forward woes are desperate and Jackson for the first time as an AFL player is under real pressure to deliver for the club.
