Am I correct in saying the boys are starting back up today?

Yep, hope they are ready to go and hungry for another tilt at the flag.

No doubt will have news coverage especially surrounding Grundy and probably even Hunter

Mark Hunter said his boy will be there today

Well I hope they are on a high after yesterdays result.

Grundy in 6, Hunter 12 and Schache 19.

AMW and Smith running reps, Grundy, Fritta and TMac all doing drills with running interspersed.  Tmac looked totally unhindered and was doing the warmup kicking drills.

I didn't see Harmes, Lever, Brayshaw, Gawn, Oliver, Lingers, Melk, Tomlinson, Dunstan, ANB, Petty, Brown and Smith.  I didn't see Taj either but he may have been there.

Usual warmups, then ball movement drills on 3/4 ground.  Had to leave earlier than expected unfortunately so that's about all I saw.  Spoke to AMW very briefly and he said he'd added 8 kilos and was 182 but still growing.  He's got an infectious smile and personality. Hoping for really big things from him.

Wow! A training report from Goschs. How long has it been. Thanks @Slartibartfast and any others that can make it to training over the coming summer. Reports always gratefully received from those of us who can't make it.

Yes and Mr. @Slartibartfast might have to purchase a scooter in order to enable the best of pre season training reportage.

All the senior boys don’t have to be back until next Monday. 1-4 years the only lads required to train today but others can join in if they want to. Gawn and Lever are in Canada right now! Sneaky word is JVR will be in the number 2 next season.

If and when you are able Mr Slart can you look specifically at the young 2021 and 2022 class and check if their physical size has improved ( or reduced) and any height improvement.

AMW wow what a start to pre season done a lot of work to base his season on and almost a new recruit again but much more AFL ready in size!

Players like Laurie D.Smith Taj Van Rooyen Bowey McPhee Disco Riv and Kossie even.

For eg. I thought Laurie looked much slimmer in the training photo last week, even though it was a funny angle and not  at a completely convincing angle.

Thanks.

Nothing shabby about the number JVR currently has (21)

Smith running laps...and also absent. I then realised we have two Smiths on the list. So, which one was running laps and which was not there?

Great report, by the way. But my heart skipped a beat when I read someone had something "infectious". Thankfully, it was a smile and nothing more troubling!

With the work being done at Casy to the changerooms etc, are they allowed to train there ATM?

If no, then they will have to train at Gosh's, which could mean more training reports this year.

And before people mention JVR being in #21 in the training video that’s just been released, they’re the old training kits and the new ones haven’t arrived yet😂

That’s true, but it was good to see senior players Trac, May, Salem, Viney, Pig, Schache and Hunter on track and involved in the match sim drills. It must be good for the junior players to see big dogs “up and about” and joining in sessions they don’t have to attend. Especially good to see TMac looking uninhibited, as @Slartibartfastpointed out - we sorely missed him last year.

It wasn’t a frenetic match sim, but it was still pretty intense for a first up session in terms of running in support of teammates as they moved the ball up and down the ground. Just shows how the level of professionalism has lifted in recent years.Trac ‘talked the talk” at the B&F about how they’d already been doing running doing fitness work for a couple of weeks back then, and he was certainly “walking the walk” at Gosch’s today as a leader.

I guess you always like to see them moving freely this time of year, and it was good to see Viney/Salem/Rivers in particular looking good; all three were either banged up last year or have been inhibited by injuries (Viney).

I was interested to see the cut of the jib of Kyah Farris-White. Yeah, he’s tall, but fwiw he moved quite nicely for such a young beanpole, including mobility during the drills. Long way to go, but good luck to him.

Pic #24 in the training gallery released by the club is one of those perfectly timed photos which seems to show something that it isn't. It looks like Petracca and Schache are holding hands.

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.

The Demons simply did not take their opportunities when they presented themselves and ultimately when down by 25 points effectively ending their finals chances. Goal kicking practice during the Bye?
