I was offered a free 3 game junior membership last week - got to boost those membership numbers anyway you can, even if we get no money from it and it is not helping our crowd numbers.

When you buy it from Melbourne they send you a code to use in the KAYO subscription setting area, so its not just for new customers.

Only thing I learnt is If you're paying through apple (as opposed to direct CC) you need to cancel your subscription and then enter the code.

Actually I had an existing subscription and I applied the code that came from the club and it worked fine. As a side note, I had a single screen subscription so to make it work I had to upgrade that to the standard subscription and then I could apply the code. I couldn't get the code to work while I had the cheaper subscription.

Yes i have read that, I am asking which bay it is in. Suspect its M53 which has not gone on sale and has been empty at both our home games.

I suspect it could be M4, since the club recently secured it for Melbourne members.  It only had Melbourne supporters in that bay on the ANZAC Eve match.  It's the bay that is directly next to the Demon Army

Can any GA (or other)member sit there or is a reserved seat required?

Against Richmond Melbourne GA members could put their barcode in and reserve for $28. I believe the same system will be in place for Kings Birthday. The blockbuster membership gave access to reserved seats in M53 and M4 so the same system will apply against Collingwood. But it was basically empty against North and probably for the rest of our home games so something needs to be worked out. I spoke to the Demon Army and they said a plan will be in place for M4 depending on the game.

reckon you can just walk up in empty games with your Melbourne scarf and there won’t be a problem

$36 for a Junior membership until midnight tonight, now is the time to sign up those nieces/nephews whose parents had the temerity to let them barrack for another side/who are unaffiliated/who are Melbourne supporters but not members. Get cracking, it could be the difference between luring a lifelong fan or letting them off the hook.

Was hoping for 70k this year. Might need to win the flag to get it up to 70k next year.

What's the YOY growth? I am certain our numbers were lower around the same time last year.

Very disappointing numbers. Looks like we may just limp past last years tally, and will probably need to do some sort of $13 membership special to even get to that point. They way we are playing we should be smashing records by 10-20% a year...

The real litmus test will be sustained membership numbers.

There will be a drop in form and results at some stage in the future. Ideally the numbers should remain healthy even during tough seasons.

Not sure why people are surprised..

As has been said, it takes years of sustained success to bring new supporters and then members to a club and aside from those MCC members who will never buy a MFC membership, we're just about at capacity. Anything more will be the hand out type three game memberships.

Win the flag this year and we could get 70k next year due to it being a flag year.

We need multiple flags to attract a new gen of supporters and that'll be what pushes us into that next tier of club.

For measure, the Saints have been in the doldrums recently but due to the spike in performance this year, I'm pretty sure they are at about 60,000 now too which is a smidge behind us. Whilst it looked like we were getting away from them in recent years, it shows that members fluctuate more than people think depending on where your club is at. Our rise is not a true reflection of growth, but rather a bunch of supporters jumping back on board post some dark years.

All clubs have a slow growth of members due to the game growing which has been no different with us, as well as the normal bump that comes post flag. The real and lasting spike will be seen years after multiple flags. That's the challenge for us.

Although the WBD look strange, a flag and somewhat sustained success and they hardly pass the 50k.

I would think that the MFC, provided that it can sustain successful seasons, may be above Jeelong in membership numbers?

That bump up would've been Auskick numbers coming through. When you pay your Auskick fees and nominate which club you support you receive a free junior membership.

The dogs were at 35,000 members by the end of 2015, 39,000 in 2016 and then made the jump up to around 47,000 the year after their grand final win. They've always been a small club.

One flag is not sustained success and as I've mentioned, every club gets a bump post a flag, but since that 2016 year, I don't think they've even made a prelim and they've had a couple of very low finishes and missed the top 8 a number of times. Their numbers have slowed again, naturally.

If we want to surpass Geelong and get closer to Hawthorn then we need an era of serious success that included multiple flags as well as superstar and universally appreciated stars who bring people to the footy. (we have a couple).

You can't underestimate what Franklin and Rioli did for Hawthorn during those years as far as attracting new supporters, kids mainly.

I would like to see the final figures across the league. Would not be surprised to see a drop off.

With the insane cost of living, I imagine many people put footy memberships low on their list of money spending priorities.

If you can't pay your mortgage or your rent, are you really spending a few hundred bucks on a footy membership?

My concern / perhaps paranoia being that Collingwood may be the exception. I could imagine that despite cost of living pressures that their numbers could increase above the average ….team being serious contenders this year, therefore ferals foregoing education, dentistry etc….  to ‘afford’ memberships, not to mention I reckon they breed over and above the average.  I could be wrong but who cares
