The game was never a chance of getting the go ahead at the Gabba. You canโ€™t have a football game on a pitch that will be hosting first class and test cricket.

Brisbane can use the Richmond decision as a basis to play the game at a small qld ground. Afl canโ€™t say no.

Apparently the curator was confident it could be done. Clearly he was the only one. ๐Ÿ˜‚

I think he went rogue. Should have stayed stum.

If the pitch got damaged and wasnโ€™t fit for purpose come test match time cricket Australia would be roasted. No way they were taking the chance

surely they'll just name the grand final to be played at princes park, regardless of participants?

They've already said Marvel if it's in Melbourne.

I think Brisbane would be hard pushed to get a home GF given the unavailability of Metricon and Gabba.ย ย

I just wish theyโ€™d name a ground, any ground really. Or at least a day (Sat or Sun). I know we have to wait until we find out which two are playing in order to adhere to the home-ground advantage thing (which has already been compromised, anyways) but itโ€™s ridiculous that 16 (or 17?) days out thereโ€™s no definite plan.

Unlike the men, most W players have jobs and need to plan around that. As do the fans.

If we make the GF we have members whoโ€™ll be going regardless of where or on which day itโ€™s being held (incl. if interstate) but geez itโ€™d be cool to know in advance. Personally Iโ€™m moving house at the same time so a lil heads-up would go a long way.

That said, if definitely in Melb, my guess is Marvel, which has been mooted since the beginning.ย

Punt Road can barely host a VFL game

Even then it is so awkward why bother

The space between Punt road and the fence is around ten feet

I'm going to be the devil's advocate here.ย  They need to name it Marvel and be done with it.ย  Melbourne and Brisbane both finished equal top of the ladder, with only .3% separating them.ย  Brisbane have already hosted a grand final, they have also already won a premiership.ย  Given the fact we missed out on seeing the men win the premiership in 2021, it's about time we were looked after for a bloody change.ย  And if the interstate clubs want to plead "bloody Victorians", let them - we've been [censored] on too many times, and we need to fight back.

Seems like scheduling ignorance or perhaps hope that it wouldnโ€™t come about. I guess whoโ€™s responsibility is it to ensure this situation doesnโ€™t come about? Itโ€™s definitely not the the GABBA or Metricon, they have every right to push forward with their own events. So surely itโ€™s on the Lions and/or the AFL to make sure should this situation comes about.ย

This job though them trying to make CA look like the bad guy for them wanting to hold them to their obligations of ensuring an international standard cricket ground.ย

Does raise the stake a touch for us, win and we get a home grand final.ย

This one I can tell you, Sunday 27th November. I hope if we win through the powers that be decide it will be in Melbourne. If so Marvel seems the best choice for all involved, weโ€™ve never played there so in theory the turf is neutral, and itโ€™s the best location for fans to get to. Plus there is a strong Fitzroy following in Victoria evidenced from our finals loss.ย

We have played there. On a couple of occasions. I remember we beat the filth there one year.

So who do we want to win today? North or the Tigers?
North could possibly be a more formidable opposition if they win the right to play us next week. so Iโ€™ll be barracking for the Tigers this afternoon.ย

Great to see the umpire's allowing throws when tackled.

We should be using the best umpires available in the final series, it is looking more like Raffertyโ€™s Rules. The throws are so blatant it looks like the umps have never played footy.!!!

Itโ€™s really strange, there are some rules that they seem harsher on (allowing opportunity to get rid of the ball) but then donโ€™t punish rules the incorrect disposal enough.ย

Something I love about women's footy though is they throw the ball up so quickly for ball ups. Keeps the game in motion as much as possible.ย

Would have liked to have played Richmond.ย  Totally overrated,ย  easy draw

Well, certainly not there there!

I think there's a side door I can use...

Just turned on the game with a few minutes left. Nice to see the Kangas really making the most of the final opportunity to sing their song this season.ย

Water pollo in Adelaide. I doubt we'll see another goal for the rest of the game. Atrocious conditions

The date is still yet to be announced. At this stage itโ€™s either the Saturday or the Sunday.ย

  • AFLW REPORT: Gold Coast

The forecast said wind. The ladder said mismatch. The scoreboard said obliteration. Melbourne didnโ€™t just beat Gold Coast โ€” they dismantled them: 13.15 (93) to 0.6 (6). An 87-point obliteration, the Suns held goalless, and the Demons delivering their second-highest winning margin and third-highest score in AFLW history.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #28 Will Verrall

It was a tough ask for him to break through as a 199cm ruckman in the shadow of an all-time great in that position who is also the club captain. He had some good days at Casey but was unable to progress and was delisted at the end of the season.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #29 Tom Campbell

The 33-year-old Campbell has yet to play AFL football for Melbourne, but his Casey form has been strong and he has been retained as a ready-made ruck depth option who is widely regarded as someone who is excellent for the culture of the club.

The Demons acquired an interesting player in Sharp, who narrowly missed securing a spot in the Lionsโ€™ premiership team last year. The 22-year-old medium forward played in the opening round this season and ended up with 18 senior games, although he was substituted in or out in for ten of those matches. He demonstrated glimpses of form, but ultimately ended the year on the margins of the team.

Worked his way back after a slow start and a further slump in form going into the midseason but became a solid contributor for the club in the latter half of 2025. Closing in on 300 goals for the club.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Gold Coast

On Friday, the Demons return to our Casey Fields fortress where they have a 77% win rate. The scent of September is in the air and the struggling Suns are on the horizon. The Cranbourne weather forecast? Ominous, like the match itself: a strong chance of carnage. Letโ€™s be honest, last weekโ€™s first half against the West Coast was a training drill but we dropped our guard in the final quarter. While this match is a mismatch on paper โ€” second versus seventeenth โ€” football is won in the wind, the contests, and the moments.
