Not the team I'd have. I'd definitely have Bowey in the side ahead of Rivers but the rest is pretty close.

It's hard to see the Dees' line-up changing too dramatically but expect a few new faces in 2023. Melbourne brought in three seasoned players but it's unlikely all three will fit into its best 22. The injection of Brodie Grundy will fill the obvious second ruck void that Luke Jackson's departure left while also allowing Max Gawn to sit forward, or even be used as a marking option behind the ball. Lachie Hunter adds midfield depth but may struggle to break into the star-studded engine room, while Tom McDonald will return from the Lisfranc foot injury that sidelined him for the second half of the season. Although hampered by injury, Ben Brown was a long way off his best and will need to rediscover his mojo to keep his spot. Jacob Van Rooyen is knocking down the door after a sensational season in the VFL and would be expected to earn his spot as early as round one, while Bailey Laurie is another promising youngster waiting in the wings. Although his versatility allows him to play at either end, Josh Schache is unlikely to break into the 22 unless there's injuries, while Jake Melksham, Adam Tomlinson and James Jordon could also be unlucky as the team moves forward. – Alison O'Connor

Yeah I'll have a look at it. Most are pretty spot on but I find it difficult to believe that Weideman couldn't get a game for basket case Essendon.

Hobbs and Grainger-Barass stiff to miss out also due to playing in very poor teams.

There was many different offerings in terms of every team’s best 22. They all differ of course but the core is basically the same.

Backing Chandler in to do ANB’s role (and offer more when we are going forward).

Hibbo could be seen as stiff, but Bowey needs to find his way back in the team so we can add some tidy possession coming out of the back.

Turner in so we can see how well Petty could perform that Forward role we’ve desperately been trying to see. Also stiff on Turner - we have 3 Elite Keybacks so it was always going to be hard to find his way in. And his form at Casey has been superb. Backing him in to have a big preseason.

I don’t mind this team.

That's a pretty rubbish effort.

James Harmes has already failed at HB and won't be playing there.  The forward line is top heavy and there's at least one too many talls in the 22.  Lachie Hunter has arrived to play on the wing and Angus Brayshaw played HB and midfield last year.  Yes James Jordon is extremely unlucky not to make the best 26.

With the full list Fit and firing there are going to be 6-8 players that will need to be knocking the door down at Casey and that is not including who else we bring in during the draft.

As much as we love our September heroes, we did seem to be trying to re-field our flag team each week. 
Pretty much our best team. 
 

Based on age - Hibberd, TMac and BB would be out. Unfair, I know but ol Father Time has first call.

I agree with this team.
 

Surely ANB and Spargo couldn’t have another poor year.  They had some glimpses but overall were very disappointing.   Goodie’s favourites so I agree they are likely to start round 1, but pressure should come from Chandler and Laurie for these 2 spots. 

I hope we are all surprised by the 22.  Given how formulaic and predictable we were i hope we see an upbeat addition to our generally sound style, with skills and speed added on every line. This would mean different talents used in different ways.  Our core remains, but i hope to see some new and younger faces demanding selection around the edges.  Only then will we keep up in ‘23.

It "should" be a new year and all spots up for grabs. I expect Goodwin will stick with some of his faves, but will be forced into changes through some very ordinary performances from my listed emergencies.

There has to genuine pressure on all players to perform, i think after last year we will not wait so long "hoping" player X gains form. Injured or beaten up players to be rested.  Changes to winning sides is allowed!

My best 22 here will all current listed players so you can see who is in or out.

I'm really not sure if they plan on starting both Gawn and Grundy on the field - they might but I would start one in the bench then bring on the other to create a mismatch. I also can't see us playing TMac, JVR and Brown with Gawn and Grundie in the team, so I've left Brown out to start.

Harmes is stiff, but he just doesn't have a position unless he is replacing Sparrow or Jordan (very possible). Spargo gets the nod over him as the only forward on the bench (especially with extra tall forwards, the flexibility is needed).

If there is a 5th on the bench I'm unsure if we'll go an extra tall (Brown) or a runner like Harmes.

We've got decent cover in most positions, but like most sides, 4-5 injuries will really test the quality of that depth.

Agree, unless they are splitting the ruck 50/50 and not playing them fwd.  Which is doubtful
