Gotta keep evolving, Harmes might love the club but he is a fairly vanilla player most of the time.

And if this helps balance our list and gives us the opportunity to bring someone in that none of us can see then I'm all for it.

We need a shake up, keep our core and continue to develop and evolve around them.

B+ half back who isn’t tall enough to be an elite interceptor, isn’t quick or disciplined enough to defend and can’t hit targets, can’t play in the same side as Lever

Could’ve kept Harmes and Hunt to provide the same output mid/wing and half back who compliment in some ways our best players. Then used the currency of Gus to find a long term midfield answer. Instead it could be Lachie Hunter and Joel Smith, yay

I think it is time to slip you onto ignore. You must just be trolling. The only alternative I can imagine is that  you have absolutely no idea and feel a desperate need to share your ridiculous opinions.

Unfortunately with the big contracts for the stars the inevitable squeeze was always going to mean guys like Harmes and Hunt were likely to get better deals elsewhere. That's footy Unfortunately

The old 'but he's the heart and soul' comment has zero merit when it comes to making ruthless list changes especially when we're in our premiership window.

Supporters dead set need to take off the red and blue romance glasses and look at from an on field perspective. We're here to win games and flags.

Do whatever it takes to get there.

Had we purely kept blokes on our list because they were the heart and soul then guys like Jack Watts ans Brent Moloney would have finished their career at the Dees.

If shipping Harmes off brings us better quality from a playing perspective then it's a win already.

Harmes is contracted for another 2 years though. Maybe it's a Scottie Pippen situation where he signed a great long term deal at the time but it ended up being massive unders?

I would love to know the reasons why he is exploring options.

I think his exit interview probably indicated that he might spend some time at Casey next year so feel free to explore options...

Just to clarify, I was responding originally to SWYL who was suggesting Dunstan come into the team for Harmes role.

This is a different conversation to the dynamics of list management.

I have read his post and he talks about covering Harmes with Dunstan or other good young options we have in the VFL. Implying that we have depth in those roles. You may have missed the point he was making

Yeah it's a fair assumption from the coaches if that's the case.

I just don't actually think there is some secret agenda here and some surprise left field gun is going to appear. Even as depth Harmes is more value in than out for a [censored] pick.

And ruthless keeps Geelong up but ruthless trading and delisting also gave us the Neeld years.

Yes, we panicked and overpaid the guy who doesn’t fit in our structure and had guaranteed currency so are now losing 3 best 25 guys who have far less value. I predicted this at the time.

Is this sarcasm? Getting rid of average players and keeping quality players. Good strategy no?

We got worked out this year. Changes are needed

Dunstan may well be very effective in Harmes Spot

Well, that would open up both salary space and role space for a certain back-ended Gold Coast player

If it ends up being Hunt & Harmes out for not only the trade-value picks but also and Bowes & 7, we're probably pretty good winners.

I do like Harmes, and together we will always have that perfect run and kick to Fritsch's lead at the pivotal moment in the Grand Final, but in the end he is a 'contributing but not crucial' player overall.

Happy if he stays, but I feel that it can work out well for all if he does go.

I rate him and have enjoyed his service, even if I've been known to call him Nathan Jones from Wish... But I assume the FD see a host if names infront or on par with him. Not dissimilar to Ellis leaving the tigers for the gold coast.

If Harmes played 22 games as an unaccountable mid and the umps gave him all of Oliver’s votes he’d be a chance of that absurd result too.

You replied directly to his comment where he implied we had depth in the form of Dunstan and others. Your so selective with your quotes above. And who cares what order it was in, you failed to fully appreciate the broader potential benefits of trading harmes out given the glut in mids which was suggested to you

Dunstan is already on our list. He doesn't need to 'come into Harmes' spot' on the list.

No context change needed, just some hand holding and walking through apparently.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
