We've Gawn out in straight sets. How does the Club respond during the player draft/trading period? Does it:

a. undertake minimal list changes in the belief that a couple of game style tweaks and natural improvement in player development and skills can deliver a flag in 2023,

b. undertake a minor list renovation, moving on a couple of good servants that are unlikely to play in our next flag,

c. undertake a moderately radical list renovation, moving on eight or so players, including at least a couple that played in the 2021 flag, or

d. do something else?

Thank you for a wonderful pod each week. I'm a big fan.

I've been to 6 games at the MCG this year for 1 win and 5 losses, should I ever attend again or is my fierce support just too distracting for the players?

A sincere well done guys for doing this Pod. I'd be calling if sick if I was a presenter.

Let's park this one for the Season Review pod in a few weeks. I'm trying to not make this podcast too much of a Review/What we need to do to improve.

We'll attempt to cover all of this in the Review pod.

We'll solicit questions and comments in that podcast so please resubmit then as well definitely attempt to answer it.

Blame on coaches and selection … the recipe for how the match would play out was repeated over and over again in the 2nd half of the season. We were told “we” were learning BUT nothing changed until 20 mins into final quarter and then a move in the forward line… coaches clearly never learnt 😡😡

Hi guys,

Enjoying the podcast. Pity the expectations of success didn't bear fruit.

My question whether for this podcast or the seas review is:  In hindsight can we see evidence of structural change over the 2nd half of the season by Goodwin that he mentioned in his press after the loss?

Thanks again guys.  Looking forward to the ‘Season Review’ pod in the next few weeks.

And thank you to you our loyal listeners.

We'll be back in a few weeks with our Season Review.

Enjoyed the podcast when finally getting a chance to listen this morning.  @binman wondered what our record against top 6 teams away from the G was.  It's 13W-13L, but you should fact check 🙂

Also, at the G over the same period Hawthorn are 10W-1D-11L and Collingwood are surprisingly not much better than us at 8W-1D-18L. I didn't bother to check Richmond as we know it would be ridiculously good.

I was thinking about your question about our record at the g, and in particular your observation about the width of the g.

A big element of our defensive sytem is covering the corridor and stopping teams using it.

We also like to let teams switch, but get accross en masse and stop them at their hb.

Both strategies would presumably be harder to do on a wide ground such as the g.

And conversely, probably easier at a narrow ground like docklands.

Both strategies require strong all team defensive running g and spread, so if, for whatever reason, we are off in this regard, our defensive sytem is vulnerable, particularly if teams move the ball quickly - and particularly at tbe g.

  • Thank You Simon Goodwin

As Demon fans, we’ve ridden a rollercoaster of emotions over the decades; the heartbreaks, the near misses, the wooden spoons, and the endless waiting. But through it all, we clung to hope. And then came Simon Goodwin. Before he ever wore red and blue, he was a champion in his own right. A five-time All-Australian, two-time Best and Fairest, and two-time premiership hero and Captain with Adelaide, Simon Goodwin was always destined to lead. When he transitioned from the field to the coach's box, first as an assistant at Essendon, he began shaping a new legacy.

  • PREVIEW: Western Bulldogs

Long ago and far away, the Melbourne Football Club replaced its coach in difficult circumstances after the team suffered a devastating loss. In the aftermath, I penned the following words: “Then came the politics, the intrigue, the axing, the sound of the football world laughing at a club, the circling of the media vultures, the reinvention of history, the anger, the irony, the pathos, the hurt on the face of the president, the dignified departure of the coach, and the determination of the newly appointed caretaker.” Today, we’re back in the same place although one difference here is that the coach who was terminated this time is Simon Goodwin, the man who four years ago

  • REPORT: West Coast

The Charles Dickens novel, A Tale of Two Cities, opens with, “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, …”  This phrase highlights many of the significant challenges that humanity encounters in life, ranging from experiencing remarkable highs to living in times of despair. This is a concept that should resonate with all supporters of the Melbourne Football Club this morning as they reflect on its comprehensive 83-point victory over the struggling West Coast Eagles at Marvel Stadium. The outcome proved beyond doubt that they are the worst of clubs and that we are the best of the worst.

The Demons return to town fresh off a thumping win over the back-to-back wooden spooners, the West Coast Eagles, played in front of a sparse crowd at Marvel Stadium, the same venue that hosted last week's heartbreaking loss.
