Iā€™m not surprised at all, but if we win, then surely Tmac comes in for Melksham the week after.

Staggering that so many on here can't see what's directly in front of them.

We are not a premiership side this year.

It feels a bit like that for me as well. The cliches of needing luck and the health of the list being so important to win a flag come to mind. We had such a dream run injury-wise last year and it hasnā€™t quite been the same in 2022. That being said, weā€™re still in it and if we can find a way past Brisbane, then itā€™ll be two out of our skins performances needed to go back to back.

Absolutely not because I expect us to beat Brisbane comfortably because they're simply not that good.

I have no where mentioned that I expect a loss. I'm talking about team selection not wins and losses.

Have another go 'Nasher'..

Even if we smash Brisbane this week, nobody in their right mind would be claiming they were wrong to doubt us.

We have been embarrassed so often by top 4 teams this year. I reckon you would search long and far for a team that wins a flag after being towelled in every high-pressure game they played in that year.

We are not winning the flag in 2022. We can reload for 2023, but prepare yourself for a letdown if you think dazzle is off the mark this year.

A half-baked McDonald on a wet MCG in a final would be an absolute selection blunder. How can we still be arguing about this. His turning circle would be akin to the titanic, he would struggle to clunk marks and fumble below his knees. Just move on. We missed the opportunity to debut JVR, so we sticks we gotĀ

Coaching and game plan are boring as hell and so is Simon.

How on earth we go into tomorrow's games with half our list banged up and so many ordinary performances last week with unchanged line up is utter bizarre.Ā

I'll get more enjoyment watching Casey on Saturday then I will tomorrow.Ā

I will reserve that judgement until after the game tomorrow.Ā

I anybody mildly concerned about Petracca playing with a fractured in his leg. I know its if, buts and maybes, but I'm tipping Brisbane with target him and and test that leg out consistently throughout the night. Its not that hard to turn a hairline in a major break that could ruin his ability to play next year. Also why would the club advertise the fact he has a fracture, would have thought talking about the calf instead would have been more sensible.

Maybe they will put a brace or bandage on his good leg ?

NO! Definately not. If he gets another hit in the same spot he is CACTUS

Exactly right.Ā

Teams like Brisbane don't worry me one bit. Haven't rated them one bit this year.

It's those genuine top 4 sides that have shown us up and exposed our game plan that'll get us.

A battered and bruised Melbourne outfit coming up against a fully fit and fresh Geelong. Good luck.

Doubt it. If we win I reckon the plan will be for Melksham to go to Tom StewartĀ

We have got 5 sore, banged up players. If we win it will be akin to that bloke who apparently walked on water 2 thousand or so years ago! MARK my words!

I agree.Ā  Let the results speak. A flag and a second place.

A bit of faith is well deserved

I actually thought there would be more benefit in Tmac playing against Brisvegas, a more competitive hitout against high quality opposition.

In listening to Goody he is convinced that if we win through Tmac will be selected if all is well on Friday night.

Reasons for holding him back we will never know but bet your bottom dollar Feral scouts will be out in force watching his every step for Casey.

This might have been the plan all along get to the Prelim and unleash T-shirt Tommy.

How can I not understand the lack of respect and faith in our coach?Ā  Mainly because we have been in the top 4 every round for the past 2 years unlike any other team. i.e. he has been the most successful coach over the past 2 years.

regarding team selection of key forwards, he has tried many options of Weid, Brown, M Brown, T Mac. Between injuries and lack of talent there is not much we can do.Ā  We could try a first year kid but I am sure we have our reasons for not throwing him in.

You guys act like we have one of the King brothers playing at Casey!

Agree with this. And surely the FD can see it as well. Which makes it incredible why you wouldnā€™t change a few things up, even if itā€™s just in preparation for a potential game against Geelong.Ā

You have to evolve, and continuously strive for improvement. Just as the other now dominant teams in Geelong, Collingwood and Sydney have done.

Drinking our own bath water from the 2021 flag, and 10-0 start to 2022 wonā€™t win us our next flag.Ā

You mean Geelong that have been top fourĀ  9 out of 10 years with only 1 losing GF to show for it.Ā  You assume we are not striving to evolve? hopefully we don't take 10 years like the Cats did to change things up.

I am not saying we don't have issues or that Goody doesn't have his weaknesses, I just don't get the negativity without acknowledging the positives. Success does not come easy, there would be issues behind the scenes we are not aware of.

drinking our own bathwater?Ā  give me a spell!

The obvious observation is that the MC have gone with last years premiership team to back it up this season

Hunt for Bowey and Melksham for T-Mac are the only 2 changes from last year's premiership line-up but if T-Mac was fit, he'd be in the team at the probable expense of Melksham.Ā

The team has the same line-up that played in the Collingwood game (save for Harmes in for Jordon) So that was our finals team back then (over a month ago)

Selection all year has been conservative but it must be pointed out that we won 16 H&A games and finished 2nd with the above policy

So if it doesn't ultimately work, we'll then see change but that won't happen until next season.Ā  If it does work, the team and the MC will be rightfully lauded

As for the now, if we beat Brisbane another unchanged team will probably result (save for an injury or 2)

I expect the team to beat the Lions and after a win, the mood changes and we'll believe that we can beat the Cats (we, as in all those involved at the club)

Ah, at least one of the Kings is a Dud that cant kick straight! Just sayin

I think we'll smash the lions and book ourselves a prelim spot. After that anything is possible. Carn boys

Embarrassed? Towelled?

In our three H&A games against Sydney and Collingwood we led all of them at three quarter time.Ā

In the final against Sydney we led by two goals halfway into the third quarter of one of the best and most intense games of the year.

In the Geelong game we weren't at our best but still closed to within a goal in the fourth.

They were all in their own way frustrating/disappointing, as every loss is to an extent, but in no way were we embarrassed in any of them.

Itā€™s Game Day, and the Demons are staring down the barrel of an 0-5 start for the first time since 2012 as they take on Essendon at Adelaide Oval for Gather Round. In that forgettable season, Melbourne finally broke their drought by toppling the Bombers. Can lightning strike twice? Will the Dees turn their nightmare start around and breathe life back into 2025?

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

As the focus of the AFL moves exclusively to South Australia for Gather Round, the question is raised as to what are we going to get from the Ā Melbourne Football Club this weekend? Will it be a repeat of the slop fest of the last three weeks that have seen the team score a measlyĀ 174 points and concede 310 or will a return to the City of Churches and the scene where they performed at their best in 2024 act as a wakeup call and bring them out of their early season reverie?Ā  Or will the sleepy Dees treat their fans to a reenactment of their lazy effort from the first Gather Round of two years ago when they allowed the Bombers to trample all over them on a soggy and wet Adelaide Oval? The two examples from above tell us how fickle form can be in football. Last year, a committed group of players turned up in Adelaide with a businesslike mindset. They had a plan, went in confidently and hard for the football and kicked winning scores against both home teams in a difficult environment for visitors. And they repeated that sort of effort later in the season when they played Essendon at the MCG.
