This simply has to stop.

And it simply has to stop on this website too.

During the game last night in the Game Day Thread I was alerted to two posts from different people making ethnic slurs about people in the crowd.

These posters have since been banned.

Vilification on the basis of race, gender, religion, sexual orientation or ethnicity is unacceptable and will be treated as such. Posters that make such vile comments are not wanted here and will be banned permanently.

Good to see we're making progress in the world...

Must say the match day experience with other fans has been pretty sub par lately

Yes its got to stop but it won't as long as people can post anonymously.

Its time that people were required to put their real names on social media accounts.

I bet they wouldnt say it to his face.

Obviously p..off Carlton supporters. Kossie kicked the winning goal and broke their little hearts re.media.

Humanity is at an all time low. Instead of making progress we’ve gone backwards.

I always thought this was the case until I read what some people post on Facebook using their real name with photos of their wife and kids and their workplace all listed.

I was at the Carlton v Adelaide game on Mother's day, at Marvel.  My other half is a Carlton supporter.   Carlton supporters were chanting Taylor Walker is a racist.  The motivation was obvious at the time, but if the vilification came from Carlton supporters last night, then not only is that totally unacceptable, but it's hypocritical.

Brain power is not the strong suit of racists in my experience.

Thanks Andy.  That last word is critical!

Thanks DL for keeping standards on this site. It’s disgusting and I can’t imagine how hurtful for Kozzi and others. He should be so happy being the match winner but it is tainted with this rubbish

Being a racist has never stopped someone being hypocritical IWS in fact they often go together.

Pretty ordinary stuff there. I personally don't see the need to yell out things like this at games, does it make someone better if they do it? I don't think so. However if you're going to raise the social justice bar then you certainly need to hold yourself to high standards.

The people that do this are the lowest of the low, and Kozzy is living his dream. Don't let them bring you down Koz.

Treating the symptom not the problem

Knowing several, I generally dislike Carlton supporters.

However, one of the reasons I like football was on display travelling from Caulfield Station and walking to the game last night.  I was pleased to see a solid number of supporter groups, be they family groups or friends, which consisted of supporters of both teams.

This doesnt happen in my limited experience of soccer

I accept there are always going to be some pretty rabid supporters, however, it remains a game that I currently feel confident I will be able to take my 1yo granddaughter when she grows into her Melbourne jumper.

Two weeks in a row… as if there wasn’t already enough reasons to despise Carlton supporters

Yep, the one last week...the behaviour on line to Ah Chee because Cripps got suspended for knocking him rotten.

It's hard to fathom if these people have a brain cell between them.

Now this week we have more.

It doesn't make Carlton look good but honestly they're not on their own.

No suggestion or evidence that it was Carlton supporters.  (Also, I have to say I was impressed at how Carlton supporters at the game last night took what must have a shattering loss.)  More generally, it is a dangerous assumption that the supporters of one team are more racist than those of another  - and that includes Melbourne. I've known some Dees supporters who are shocking bigots.

Sad but that’s social media for you. A cesspool

We all love you Kozzy. Ignore the knuckle draggers

What is so bizarre about this behaviour is that literally ALL the AFL clubs have strong indigenous histories, the game is based on an indigenous sport, and when the white fellas came they built their cricket ovals (subsequently footy ovals) on locations with long histories as indigenous meeting places.

Its like loving pizza, but hating anything Italian.

The saddest part about the ongoing racial vilification we keep seeing, is that it has already caused us to lose some absolute stars and it will continue to rob us of wonderful indigenous (and Sudanese and Muslim and so on and so forth) players. They deserve better and so does the game of AFL.

These guys are some of the best players to watch, yet small minded people want to keep making it harder and harder for them to front up and play the game they love.
I hope Kosi feels plenty of love and support internally and that we keep the good from outweighing the bad, as I am sure these things hurt him deeply.

It's quite funny really. Someone watches a game they are obviously invested in, and when they see someone do something that they can only dream about the best they can come up with is 'you suck coz you are different from me'.

No [censored] they are different. They have talent.

Still waiting for you to tell us how you are going to stop racist trolls.

So far finger wagging and telling them its trooly rooly naughty hasn't worked.

Whats next ??

We need to stop racism at the source. We need to educate these people so they understand why these things hurt. I get frustrated hearing the word education because everyone uses it in such a throw away manner eg "We need to educate people on this". We need to actually detail what the hell that means because just saying that word is crap and not cutting it. What do we need to do to actually educate the public on this problem and help them understand that this is behaviour that does not bring us together.

Are we in this together? Are we prepared to do the hard work or are we just going to sit on our hands until the next thing happens? Need to get real.

Tx Layzie.

Not sure if education works. I think people who make racist slurs have a wide range of issues going on in their lives.

From anger...hatred...plain stupidity....low self esteem.

Maybe over time education may work but racists need a team of psychiatrists from Vienna working around the clock on them.

Education programs may work. As a kid it seemed more prevalent so maybe progress is being made.

Poor Kozzie.....could notv find a nicer player in the league imho.

Hopefully over time this scourge will go but there will always be some nit wit with issues.

I guess I don't understand it. I guess most of us don't.

But I'm really happy that people call them out and posts like yours and others continue and will keep coming so racists even if they don't change lack the courage to open their irrational mouths.

On a lighter note...go Dees.

Is it too early to dream we could win back to back if we win next week.

With kozzie to kick five goals ....Fritta and bbb back to their best.

Love it Deever, so very true. You can only hope we're on the right track to make the change over time, it simply can't happen overnight.

Not to make light of things but I use this line all the time eg "You need a team!" haha

  • REPORT: Port Adelaide

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.

The Demons simply did not take their opportunities when they presented themselves and ultimately when down by 25 points effectively ending their finals chances. Goal kicking practice during the Bye?
