I agree mate. 

We are just not a loud bunch in general compared to the likes of Collingwood and Carlton. 

I attended the North game this year with a best and while it was a poor crowd I thought North were far more vocal on the day. They were getting rough end of the stick with a few decisions so were up and about.

Meanwhile me and my mate were a few beers in were quite loud and vocal and tried to get others around us involved. Crickets unfortunate.

I kind of agree, us wogs just love yelling even around the dinner table and Collingwood, Richmond and Carlton in particular have a big proportion of southern/eastern European supporters.

At the moment you can’t purchase a seat on level 4 of the AFL members.

Not sure if the Ticketek website is playing up or if they’re not even bothering to sell seats on the top level.

If the latter, then we’re probably looking at a significantly reduced crowd from last week.

an idea could be to indicate when buying a ticket the barracking bays or quiet bays so we can try to bring together the loud fans and they can encourage each other and those around and the noise would be massive. 15K loud fans sprinkled around the G doesn’t make much sound but 15K sitting near each other chanting together would be huge. Then people would start coming to games for the atmosphere, especially younger fans

Probably leaving it for walk-ups - this morning I was trying to get seats in M19 but it would only give me the option of undercover. Level 1 open seats were only available in M17. I had to just keep trying and wait til those bays were sold and they released the open tickets closer to the wing (got tined out and had to go back in again).

That's just members am I right? Surely sale will keep going until then end of the week. What's depressing is how few lions members have bought tickets.

Collingwood has roughly double our members so the numbers add up.

Carlton and Collingwood are full of them aren't they. I know you joke about it but I actually agree with you. You see it at the soccer as well. Certainly have a voice.

Played at Northen Saints in the EDFL when I first moved to Melbourne when I was 19. Whole team was was full of Greeks, Turks, Italians etc. Dead set some of the best blokes I've ever played footy with here and still to this day keep in contact with some. The footy trip with these lads later that year was next level.

I'm back living up bush now but I remember I got a huge culture shock when my first Thursday night meal at the club, I was expecting your stock standard chicken schnitzel and chips you get back at your local country footy club. Instead I was served with a platter of home made salami and a few bottles of red.

they already sold Q15-Q20 first ten rows but haven't put anything else up.

This is a nice idea - would likely result in more momentum for the louder fans and then the atmosphere might even rouse the quiet fans!

Normal conversations become yelling matches and who can yell louder. Lived it my whole life!

How did the noise level sound to those watching on tv?

Does the location at the G influence how the noise sounds at the game?  I was in M13 and while it was quiet to start I thought the noise was pretty high once the crowd warmed up.  A few Mel-bourne chants got going but probably not as many as the Pies have.

I ask as in The Age Podcast they mentioned how loud the noise was at our game.  I'm guessing they were watching on TV so wonder if we are comparing how the Carl, Rich, Coll games sound on TV to how ours sound at the ground.  I'm guessing TV will always sound louder.

As some have pointed out, was loud when Fritsch kicked that snap and Sparrow with the long bomb.

To be honest it was a bit of a lul at times.. I'm comparing to 2018 and I certainly think there was stark difference between the two. 

2018 really had that finals type energy and vibe and was certainly much louder throughout the game.

We're like the Knicks at Maddison Square Garden: quiet and timid if thing aren't going well or are boring but we slowly build up and rock the joint when things go well. I went to a Knicks game once and in the first quarter you could hear a pin drop. In the last quarter when they took the lead after being 20 points down the stadium was literally shaking. On the flip side when I was in Memphis the crowd wouldn't shut the [censored] up the whole night.

Outside of the games against GWS and Brisbane, and patches here and there, we haven't had a chance to be "loud" in front of a big crowd. Kozzie's goal against Carlton the exception and that was a great atmosphere especially when the siren went. 

We sit back and enjoy and clap but it's almost like we're a sleeping giant: we don't make noise unless we have a reason to.

Suspect Friday will be the same. If we win and go to the Prelim thatll be a different story. Prelim atmosphere is organically very loud.

Good comparisons. Those teams fans are also like Liverpool/Man Utd and we're more like Real Madrid, football is theatre.

Hey I’m Barca over Real every day of the week! Madrid just fits the criteria perfectly! They love to go to the football and be wowed in that city, not really ones to create that ‘12th man’ atmosphere

Barcelona is similar, bit of theatre supporters and also lots of tourists. So the atmosphere is not always the most hostile for the opposition. One of the reasons they have struggled with Champions League in recent times 😬.

The sounds on the TV coverage can be deceiving. There are mics positioned close to the cheer squads, therefore we sound louder than we actually are. Makes for a better telecast. That, and the AFL get to impose fines for offensive language coming from a cheer squad. 🙄

You'd know better than me El Diablo, haven't been to Barca I just always assumed that Catalan spirit could get loud sometimes! Maybe it's a Spanish football thing to just sit back and enjoy the magic 😀

Exactly!   This makes me wonder if our judgements on here of how loud other teams are comes from us watching them on TV.  Whereas our judgements of how quiet we are comes from being at the ground. 

Maybe other teams' fans aren't as noisy at the ground as they might sound on tv.

Yeah that's a trick used often for the interstate games as well.

I was there on Friday night, level 4 Q1 front row. I watched bits and pieces of the replay and the sound at the G' was louder than what it seems on the TV.

I am more of the idea that the TV actually diminishes the sound level, like you loose the reverberation that is created by the G'.
