Lookin good!   how are you going to entertain yourself for 10 hours??!  maybe try to turn off the hot water in the home dressing rooms

JJ and Langers are in for a tough night. who gets the 'paddock' wing?

wear screw-ins lads! or maybe don't, might lead to more injuries?

The signing of Gus gave me some type of confidence and some energy that we can do it again this year. Hopefully they got that too. Maybe it was just me looking for anything to hold onto for this season but let’s see! Haha

In the last game Petracca was parked forward because he was very ill, May played for 15 minutes and Petty injured early and restricted for the rest of the game.  Our backline was all over the shop trying to plug gaps.  TMc also out of the side.

Despite that we had them at half time with the scores 6.8 to 2.7.

Longmuir saw our team was weakened at both ends of the ground and exploited it:  He tagged Oliver.  When an opp coaches tags him or Petracca the other has a field day.  But they were both restricted.  Freo started dominating the middle.

Our defence was also weakened all over the ground, we semi panicked and kicked straight to their tall defenders giving our small fwds no chance.

It will be a very different game tonight.

Dees to win by 3-4 goals.

I was fortunate enough to be there last September 25. Unbelievable!! Good luck tonight.

If Logue goes to May, May will be ready.  If they tag Oliver, Petracca will have a field day. And vice versa.

They will need new tactics in this game.  They might pinch a few things from the Sydney and Geelong games but I will be surprised if they come up with anything new that our coaches haven't seen this year.

They are very tall for a boggy ground which might help us.

Jackson for BOG, in our win!

Beautiful stadium. I presume you did the tour? I wasn't organised enough to do that in May when I was there for the Eagles game. Must do it next time. Bring the four points back east home with you. COYBIRB!

I'm optimistic about tonight. Freo got us at a bad time mid season when TMac was first out. Our backline then battled as May and Petty got injured, and Petracca had a career worst game due to illness.

The same result is very unlikely tonight. We showed patches of form last week agains the Dogs, even if we did get overrun. Ramping up to finals starts tonight. Tipping us to get the job done by 20 points.

Freo do not seem like a big threat IMO. We had a lot of injuries in our first game and it was clearly a lull period for us. I think their forward line is not very threatening and we will handle them in the midfield. Although, I do worry about Sean Darcy crashing into our already injured tall brigade.

They killed us with speed but also contested marking earlier in the season. Hopefully we took some lessons from that.

They mostly killed us for ground balls behind the ball and in their forward half. We haven't been that bad at ground level since 2016 or 2017. I doubt that happens again. Wet weather will make that harder.

Initial quote already edited.

The Dockers' round 11 win at the MCG saw Logue head to May to throw out the Demons' defence in what looked a crafty move before May was substituted with concussion in the second quarter, having impressed early.

Schmook must have logged onto Demonland this morning prior to editing his article.

Just posted this in The LJ thread but it’s appropriate in this thread since it’s about tonight…

Hopefully we do a better job of containing Schultz (4 goals) and Lobb (3 goals and 9 marks) this time around.

A lot of Freo supporters are disappointed Banfield got dropped as he can kick the clutch goal and he's tracking towards a 25 goal season. Wouldn't be surprised if he's a late in or at least the medical sub.

I have absolutely no basis or information to support this but I wouldn't be surprised if Banfield is part of the Jackson trade.

Just win. That is all.

That's disgraceful. No chance that surface will not be shifting terribly tonight.

I wonder if the local constabulary are going to turn up with a Boo Bus?

I'll show myself out....

Really looking forward to this one. (I’ll be watching from Singapore, where I lived for 10 years.)
For some reason, I’m more confident of a win this week than last.  GO DEMONS!!

I'm SO PUMPED for the game!

Freo play a similar brand to us, should be a cracking contest.

Send Viney to Andy Brayshaw, he is their barometer in the middle

We are playing 5 Half back flankers so our rebound should be strong!! 😂

Not only is there a "no boo" policy, I'm hearing there's a campaign for Freo Supporters to clap Jackson every time he gets the ball as a mechanism to make him feel welcome for next year.

Hopefully they'll be jumping out of their seats with applause as LJ kicks the winning goal in the final minute.

Interesting that all the "so called experts" are tipping Freo tonight yet for the first time this year our odds have shortened with the bookies .

Hunt in was a good call by the selection committee. He's almost our best lockdown defender, and our balance has been off since his omission. Freo have poor tall forward options, especially if Lobb is curtailed. Hunt in helps lockdown the smalls like Walters, Schulz, Frederick etc. Freo will get momentum at some point, so Hunt and Hibberd's defending tonight will go a long way to determining the result IMO.

Freo were a legit contender at the mid point of the year, but they've fallen away defensively recently. Very similar to us actually. I expect our midfield to fire up tonight and work harder both ways to get back to the Melbourne brand after degenerating into a shoot out last week.

As I wrote last week we just need to win.

But surely we can contain Lobb and tanner this time. Last time our backline just went down injured.

Hope weid can pull in a big one.

It's Game Day and the Demons will be running out on the field with a new Head Coach, albeit a caretaker, for the first time in 3,060 days when they face the Western Bulldogs at the MCG today. What do you want to see from the Demons in the first match of the Post Simon Goodwin era?

  • Thank You Simon Goodwin

As Demon fans, we’ve ridden a rollercoaster of emotions over the decades; the heartbreaks, the near misses, the wooden spoons, and the endless waiting. But through it all, we clung to hope. And then came Simon Goodwin. Before he ever wore red and blue, he was a champion in his own right. A five-time All-Australian, two-time Best and Fairest, and two-time premiership hero and Captain with Adelaide, Simon Goodwin was always destined to lead. When he transitioned from the field to the coach's box, first as an assistant at Essendon, he began shaping a new legacy.

  • PREVIEW: Western Bulldogs

Long ago and far away, the Melbourne Football Club replaced its coach in difficult circumstances after the team suffered a devastating loss. In the aftermath, I penned the following words: “Then came the politics, the intrigue, the axing, the sound of the football world laughing at a club, the circling of the media vultures, the reinvention of history, the anger, the irony, the pathos, the hurt on the face of the president, the dignified departure of the coach, and the determination of the newly appointed caretaker.” Today, we’re back in the same place although one difference here is that the coach who was terminated this time is Simon Goodwin, the man who four years ago

  • REPORT: West Coast

The Charles Dickens novel, A Tale of Two Cities, opens with, “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, …”  This phrase highlights many of the significant challenges that humanity encounters in life, ranging from experiencing remarkable highs to living in times of despair. This is a concept that should resonate with all supporters of the Melbourne Football Club this morning as they reflect on its comprehensive 83-point victory over the struggling West Coast Eagles at Marvel Stadium. The outcome proved beyond doubt that they are the worst of clubs and that we are the best of the worst.
