Goody is more likely to bring in like for like replacements than shift Gus to the wing imo. Baker in for JJ could be on the cards, he had a very good game for Casey st the most opportune time

It's not like for like. Baker has played in the backline all year.

Here's an idea out of left field ...

When we're being continually thrashed in the air up forward and/or the oppo take intercept mark after intercept mark, perhaps sometimes just 'kick it to grass' and let the small forwards run onto it? Surely better than being continually outmarked.

Or is that just another Baldrick plan?

Baker did some very good Baker stuff. Tuck the ball under his arm and get it moving. Otherwise he was ordinary in contests and didn’t share it by handballs. He didn’t go with Baker when Langdon was out, doubt he does if JJ is missing

No he hasn’t. Started the year down back. Then moved back to the wing for at least the last month.

Played on the wing for the first half v the dogs, with Howes down back. Then they swapped it for the second half when Rosman was injured - I assume because they wanted pace and match fitness down back being 1 rotation down.

I've got a better idea - if you kick it directly to one our blokes instead of bombing to the pack/where the big blokes are.....

Revolutionary SB!

Less hang time, more low time.

This economics is currently making us brokeanomics

NOTE TO PLAYING GROUP:

Its going to be WET and SLIPPERY on Friday night in Perth. Plus the ground is chewed up due to two soccer games and an AFL game played on the ground last weekend.

FFS PLEASE wear screw in studs on your boots or longer stops.

If I see our guys slipping over I will scream

Do longer stops still exist?

I hope so. Frustrates me more than anything when our players slip over - and more often than not our opposition don't.

I agree. I reckon Goodie has stamped his papers which is unfair because he has played better footie than some who have got games this year.

He’s consistently got better at VFL level but I don’t see improvement in the things that would make a coach pick him at AFL level. And I don’t understand the move to half back because if it didn’t work immediately he’s unlikely to get picked there because he’s shaky at the contest. We’ve got too many half forwards as is but I’d have tried him there at Casey. He really does make things happen with his burst speed and ability to get to space.

Am l missing something, is Jordon injured?

All the talk of him not playing because he’s been one of our more consistent player this year

Also why has Hunt been out? Form?

Salem, Rivers & Bowey have all been out of form but Hunt always seems the first to go

Jeez, even Demonland's whipping boy Mac Andrew gets to debut before JVR.

I thought teams for Friday night games were announced on Wednesday nights? I mean apparently not, but has this changed?

Only Thursday night game team are announced Wednesday. Rest all Thursday, squads finalised Friday night for weekend games

Brilliant - we need to replace Goody (Premiership coach) with WAL.

Perhaps he [Baker] just doesn't fulfil his role?

Re selection announcement - Surely the squad has gone over to Perth already (Thursday afternoon), or do we go on the morning of an evening match??

My Dad if he was still alive could make them some stops out of three pieces of leather

I nearly didn’t get to Captain my u/15 Premiership because he left a few nails sticking out

Umpires never missed them in the sixties

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Essendon

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 1 Steven May

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #3 Christian Salem

Salem proved to be a valuable contributor as a reliable and solid one-on-one medium-sized defender in what was undoubtedly his most impressive season since the premiership year. He remains a highly capable rebounding option for the Demons as he approaches his 200th game at the club.
