Chasing Liam Henry is now a no brainer for me. Separate deal to Jacko of course.

Not sure Liam Henry is a Goodwin kind of player. Purely outside, poor stamina and not particularly skilful.

Goodwin likes his small forwards and wingers to have elite endurance and crack in when it's their turn.

FMD. Anyone would think this was Bigfooty and you were an opposition supporter coming in to troll.

I first saw the Demons in 1967 after barracking for them for the previous few years. Don’t question my loyalty based on ONE post which you appear to have read Out of context.

My comment was about Bedford, Neal Bullen ,2022 not being as successful as 2021 and B&F’s not being an indicator of ultimate Team success.

No where did I criticise  Goodwin.

The loss of both Hunt and Bedford will not make any difference to the sides improvement.

Have to agree. Both are bottom 6 players, the very players we need to replace to get better as a team. Yet when the club goes about doing it, some bemoan it.

Time for Chandler to get his chance, and develop Andy Moniz-Wakefield in the VFL

i can't believe this thread has made it the last 4 pages without any mention of Laurie, was rated as highly as bowey when drafted, has the composure and kicking skills we like about spargo and hopefully does a better job of finding the footy, but this will give him the opportunity to get some minutes and push into the side, i realise he's not exactly a like for like with toby but a small forward is a small forward is a small forward and this will present him some more opportunities in '23

Laurie is overated IMO

Shame to lose a guy after four years of development but it is understandable that blokes just want to play.

I don't know whether he'll make it. Shown glimpses but also invisible for long parts of the game.

That's how I feel about Bedford. We need another pacey forward with X factor, but Bedford doesn't strike me as a natural footballer. I'd like to see Chandler given the same opportunities as Bedford, or AMW given a crack if he continues to develop.

GWS probably see him as a replacement for Bobby Hill, but I'm not sure that Bedford is a walk up start at the Giants.

If we rated Bedford highly enough, we would have offered him a decent contract mid-season when he was getting regular games.

It's not something we had to worry about for a good number of years but part of having a decent team is losing players who seek better opportunities. Tigers lost the likes of Dan Butler, Brandon Ellis (premiership players), Jack Higgins & Mab Chol. All sought the chance to play more senior footy. The longer we sustain any level of success, the more of these types we'll lose.

Laurie’s not a small forward though, he’s a midfielder. Too slow to be classed as a forward. He’ll be a high half forward at afl level. But he has to start playing full time midfield at Casey from round 1 next year or we should’ve just delisted him.

On media reports we rated him very highly and the three year contract has been on the table for a long time.

It looks more like we can't give him confidence of getting games whereas other clubs can.

I think it has a bit to do with our game plan.  Bedford's string of senior games was when we experimented with an extra small fwd and one less medium/tall.  That experimented lasted about a month or so then he lost his spot.

Laurie isn't slow

Agree.

Goody wouldn’t make the top 8 of current AFL coaches IMO.

most people here plus some board members wanted him sacked pre R1 2021. He wins a flag, with an amazing list, one of the worlds greatest fitness guru’s, an assistant who should already be a senior coach, and suddenly his position is locked in for years. Doesn’t make sense to me.

This line of argument is infuriating.

We perform well - it’s everyone other than Goodwin.

We perform poorly - it’s all Goodwin’s fault.

Neither is true. The argument only serves to highlight bias.

Have you watched him play, PF?

I don’t want to be mean to him but I guess you could say he’s very slow?

4 smalls was never going to cut it. Worth trying but we needed at least Melk as a medium.

The one thing we never tried with Toby at afl level was 5 minute bursts per quarter on ball. His defensive speed and burst form the centre are both potential assets. As a junior he used to swap between forward pocket and centre bounces at Dandy and it wasn’t something I’ve seen a lot before.

Pretty weak from Bedford in my opinion, obviously is just out of the top 22.

Why wouldn’t he back himself to get into the starting lineup in 2023.

Takes the easy option to get a regular game in an average team

weak? its what he gets paid to do.

If GWS have told him he will play senior football on more $$ than what dees are offering then good on him for finding that opportunity.

We have at least three players in the VFL vying for Bedford's role the main two being Chandler and Moniz Wakefield. You can throw in Laurie and Woewodin into the mix as well.

While Bedford is the most advanced of the group all are capable at VFL level

What are we likely to get in trade?

I feel like anywhere between a late second round pick to early third would be a straight swap. Say... Between 32 and 42.

Is that realistic?

A pick in the 40s most likely.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
