Farewell Brodie Grundy

Ouch!

When measuring something...

Best to bring the right rule....and know how to read it...    Better still ...measure the correct aspect.

In light of his non-selection a few may need to revisit their confident dismissiveness they met the reports/opinions of Grundy possibly not playing finals, leaving the club in October, and the whole thing being a misguided venture.

They won't.

But I'm happy to bring it for them.

I saw mentioned in an article that Sydney may be looking at Grundy, but that would all

Would love a classic ruck circus with Hayden Mclean (a more forward-ruck option) coming to us given he's behind Amarty and Logan as a forward at Sydney.

A lot depends on Tom Hickey. If he retires then the Grundy-to-Sydney move would be high priority for them. If not, I don't see how Grundy+Hickey+Ladhams works, even if we got McLean in the trade.

The trade value assessment would be very complex. Speculating;

Grundy, 15 and 34

for

Mclean and 12

I think Goody has handled this whole Grundy situation perfectly.

I think the plan was to give the Gawndy combo one more look before finals which was last week, and it simply didn't work. All good, I have no issues with giving it one more game and I think in hindsight if Goodwin had his chance again he might no have selected last week.

Barring an injury to Gawn from here I think we've seen the last of Grundy in red and blue as I believe he'll request a trade (would be silly not to for his own career sake).

Can well understand why we were able to pick him up after last night's game spray during debacle on  X .

He just didn't want to stay there.

So when Gawn retires in a few years or gets injured next year assuming Grundy is gone who is our backup? Who have we got coming through

Verral is a possibility depending on how he develops next season

Honestly is he were smart he'd take his paycheck and stick around. He's a walk-up Reserve, no questions asked. Gawn ain't playing 22-26 games a year anymore.

Doubt he'll accept that thoughh.

For half the price or thereabouts. Grundy isn't what he used to be since his injuries.

Yes, say Grundy goes at $650k and you replaced him with say Goldstein, for say $250k for one year, with promise of a few games to give Max a rest and to be ruck coach at Casey for our young ruckmen. You save $400k and get the young ruckmen developed by a great ruckman who is there if needed for his final year. You then do it again the next year, maybe with someone else and hope our young rucks are ready to go in 2 years.

Goldstein, Chol and McLean should be names on the whiteboard.

And Jeff White’s kid is a chance if he continues to develop.
Great ruckman aren’t essential to winning flags. Max is so much more than a great ruckman which is why he is essential to us right now.

Bit of early crow there boys?

Seems Max is playing fit and well at this time of year compared with this time last year.  I think that's got to do with the ruck minutes he's shared with Brodie throughout the year, ruck minutes we wouldn't have been able to confidently put into a third stringer.  So there's that contribution from Brodie in the bank.

I noticed that Mason Cox came on last night and played with a purpose to put his name in front of the Collingwood selectors for the first final, and we're likely to be their opponent.  Are you completely happy for Max to go solo against Cameron and Cox if that's the way it turns out - particularly with Cox's tendency to try to hurt Max?  What if we lose and face Carlton in week 2 with Pittonet and TDK vs a beaten up Max, again solo?

There's a bit of water to flow under the bridge ...

Plenty of water to go under the bridge - I just don’t ignore the tonnage of water that’s already flowed.

So you think we'd go with just Max against Cox and Cameron...?

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the
