I might have missed it, but what is the Pies rationale for trading Grundy?

Do the pies think he doesn't suit how they want to play or is it as simple as wanting to get his salary off the books?

Salary off the books l believe…..

I see that Grundy’s pooch has absconded with Mason’s sunglasses

Really hope if Gawn is going to be spending more time forward he improves his goal kicking otherwise it won’t work.

I believe the club has sent he and Ed Langdon to Italy to work on their goalkicking

Graeme Wright on record as saying their high-investment in ruckmen was at odds with their list profile strategy. It wasn’t necessarily just to clear cap-space, it was to redress the balance of the list (in line with their list strategy)

I'm glad Grundy is the sort of bloke who isnt over the moon to have been shipped out of a place he put so much time and effort into. Upto the coaches and his new team mates to turn that passion into a point to prove for his, and our,  benefit. The bloke is a gun.

I hope they play both Gawn and Grundy in tandem with one drifting back behind the play (Gawn for contested marks) and one drifting forward (Grundy with his mid-like footskills). Could do some real damahe

I’m just all in on footballer who have cute dogs. Dogs are definitely the way to my heart

We're going to be difficult to match-up against because of the acquisition of Grundy

For the working model we only have to look at how we went about it with Gawn & Jackson (more than 2 years worth of a sample size)

We'll go about it with a few differences but Grundy is a big upgrade on the actual output of Jackson.  So the results should be more fruitful in an area where we already hold sway

From what I've seen of Grundy he serves as a link player through the middle as well. Regularly exceeding 20 possessions which included a couple of seasons where he exceeded 500 possessions.  That's apart from his stellar ruckwork

In simple terms both ruckman can patrol a certain area of the ground swapping roles occasionally. The reason why we don't often see 2 ruckman in the starting 18 is that most teams usually only have 1 decent ruckman/follower

We've got 2 and that is an advantage.  And both just happen to be 2 of the very best

Brodie Grundy looks much better in a Melbourne Demons jumper! 😍

If I do say so myself! :D

Everyone does.

What was that about not being a decent leader? Sounds like a pretty good one to me. Not afraid to have the tough conversations. No wonder Taylor Adams came out so forcefully against the accusation.

And like others, I reckon he comes across as a top bloke in that interview. Usually someone who says they're pretty down to earth isn't, but he bucks the trend.

In other words a salary dump

Seems like a really thoughtful, self aware and considered dude. Glad to have him.

If this was 6 years ago we would expect Grundy to be the saviour-

its great that we can bring a guy in of this quality who can play a role in a very good team .

Go Dees

It's very likely six years ago Grundy wouldn't have chosen us.

We are a destination club, even if both of our top acquisitions were salary dumps for their original clubs.

We just don't seem to be a destination club for big KPF... Oh how I wished McKay would be available next year!!

Not sure any of the DA girls noticed the pooch’s glasses. Nor the pooch for that matter.

Sure is! 😃

I’m not a participant though, purely a spectator. I can’t speak for the others.

Unleash the beard and bun in 2023

Don't think Grundy has had a bun for about 2 years, has he?

  • REPORT: Collingwood

The media focus on the fiery interaction between Max Gawn and Steven May at the end of the game was unfortunate because it took away the gloss from Melbourne’s performance in winning almost everywhere but on the scoreboard in its Kings Birthday clash with Collingwood at the MCG. It was a real battle reminiscent of the good old days when the rivalry between the two clubs was at its height and a fitting contest to celebrate the 2025 Australian of the Year, Neale Daniher and his superb work to bring the campaign to raise funds for motor neurone disease awareness to the forefront. Notwithstanding the fact that the Magpies snatched a one point victory from his old club, Daniher would be proud of the fact that his Demons fought tooth and nail to win the keenly contested game in front of 77,761 fans.

  • POSTGAME: Collingwood

Despite effectively playing against four extra opponents, the Dees controlled much of the match. However, their inaccuracy in front of goal and inability to convert dominance in clearances and inside 50s ultimately cost them dearly, falling to a heartbreaking one-point loss on King’s Birthday.
