I reckon it speaks more to the way we're trying to play than anything else, i don't think we might losing clearance on our terms,

Yep, exactly.

How upset this is making Collingwood fans has genuinely made this all worth it for me. Even if he never plays a game or the fit doesn't work i'm so wrapped they're upset.

So do I read this right:

grundy was on a front loaded deal, meaning the ongoing rate is reduced from the big number bandied around?

the filth will look to pay some of his salary

he will take a pay cut to join us?

sounds like we get a pretty good deal from all of this, depending on the pick traded.

Clear to see how much Pies fans value Grundy from the comments on social media.

So good to be screwing them over

what were they thinking giving him a $7m deal!?  hilarious

Most on here think we are being done over by giving then anything but a 4th rounder.

With both sides unhappy it probably means it's a fair deal.

Come on, Collingwood. All you need to do, is bend over.

And take it.

At least one of our long term deals will probably go to (bad) if it’s hasn’t already. That’s without mentioning medium term deals like Lever, Gawn, Tomlinson, Brown, McDonald.

The Pies had 3 choices:
- Trade an All Aus ruck a year ahead of time
- Accept a very ordinary late first round compo in a mess of a draft when he left to Adelaide
- pay him market value

They’ve had him for 2 more years and will be left with 1.5M dead cap but they’ve get a similar worth pick now than if they just let him go as a free agent in 2020.

Who would take a long term deal with Collingwood and expect them to keep their side of the deal.

4th choice is manage your list well. If you see him as someone to build your team around for 7 years, lock him in early at a reasonable salary - see MFC approach. If you don’t value him that highly, trade him early and get good comp. They waited and then panicked

Why do you think Trac or Clarry will go bad? Can’t see it happening. We are giving long term deals to gun players that we want to keep forever. Not trade when we screw up the cap

So your advice to Collingwood was to trade Grundy in 2019 when he was All Aus and they’d lost a grand final by a kick a year prior? The signed him in January 2020, there’s only so much earlier you can sign a guy. We got Oliver and Tracc midseason 16 or so months out but not sure it was a huge discount, they’ll be on close to 7 figures too.

I’m not doom riding Oliver and Tracc. But I think we have to be careful with Tracc’s injuries to keep him fresh.

Brayshaw everyone knows my thoughts on. Salem and Fritsch have 4 left I wouldn’t see them certainties to last.

my advice is to decide if they think Grundy was that good, sign him up, pay the money and see out the contract.  If not, trade him.  don't panic and sign him up on a 7mill deal and then decide he is not that good 2 years later. The Pies seem to think the number of years on a contract don't matter once the player stays for the next 1-2 years. and then they throw them under the bus 1/4 way through

He was that good, then he got injuries, they had a cheaper alternative and now they’re moving on. We tried to do the same to Tom McDonald after 2020, we’re trying to do it with Tomlinson, that’s footy.

The Treloar situation was a bit different because they asked him to be back ended, then slandered him in the press when they wanted him offloaded.

Couldn't care less, this last little bit of haggle will work out in our favour, I'm confident.

With pick 21# from GWS going to Brisbane it looks like it is "take it or leave it" for Collingwood to accept pick 27# from Melbourne for Brodie Grundy.

Nah, heaps of options.

27 and future third, or even trade Bedford and 27 to GWS for 19 and 44, then offer 19 for Grundy.

19 is a valuable pick on draft night.

And Grundy is a valuable player.

Or are you saying GWS wouldn't do that deal?

If a team asks for a top 25 pick and we get pick 27 there’s no way in hell we should suddenly offer 19!

Once they have Tom Mitchell lined up they’ll do the deal for 27
