Not supposed to get out, but heard from a credible source that Watson is keen on the prospect of joining the Dees.

Sydney are really desparate for a tall defender. Thank goodness North look set for pick 1 as I doubt AFL will allow WCE to lose access to pick 2 and Curtin, which will most likely be North's preference. Ideally they get mid-first round compensation and have to match a bid on Sanders...that would be the ideal result at this stage I think. Players that gold coast pre-listed weren't ranked in the top 10 in their draft year so really an apples to oranges situation.

Any way we can get pick 39 for Tomlinson if they are so desperate for a tall defender? He would be a fantastic defender for them and fit their defenders much better than his fit with Lever and May. Surely that would be better for all involved then spending 800k+ for Mckay.

West Coast may have shot themselves in both feet if North ends up with pick 2 for McKay compo. Reid and Curtin likely to be Roos you would imagine.

Of course that has negative implications for us as well.

Good news but who wouldn’t be keen on joining the Dees though?

It really is a bit of a quandary dealing with who to pick.

I think with a top 5 pick you gotta go best talent available. However, wants and needs also need to be taken into account.

Here are the "current" rankings for the first round of the 2023 AFL National Draft: https://www.espn.com.au/afl/story/_/id/38116519/afl-draft-power-rankings-august-2023-jasper-chellappah-first-round-locks-starting-take-shape

At picks 5, 6 or 7 it has the Demons taking either Nate Caddy, Nick Watson or Zane Duursma.

You would have to be "over the moon" with any of those choices. All of them exceptional young football talents.

Anyway, I will reiterate that I have total faith in Jason Taylor and the rest of the MFC recruitment team. 🙏

‘Roooooooooooooooo’

If the body holds up after growth related issues in 3 years time there will be a lot of noise about Benji Van Rooyen

I am thinking we trade for GC pick 4. Using our 2024 1st round pick, our pick, 24,34 and possibly the pick we get for Grundy if traded.

GC have a stack of points and a 20% discount. The above should see them through no problems.

We need to keep in mind in 2025 draft we will get Kalani White a likely KPF..

Pick 4 i would go for O'Sullivan a well credentialled 198cm KPB given May is around 30. Petty is likely earmarked for Forward in 2024.

Pick 5 i would go for a gun mid if available or a small forward such as Watson who may eventually be a good mid anyway. Kosi may also play a bit more mid time as he matures.

Keep in mind compromised draft in around 27/28 for Tassy.

Pick 15 we good look at best available. There may also be a ruck available for consideration, eg Edwards.

Next year as Tomlinson, Brown and Tmc depart or play on reduced salary we may bring in a free agent to make up for our 2024 1st round traded in 2023.

2025 we get White.

Rubbish. The place where we have a list hole is between Oliver at 26yo and Petty at 23y9m - we have no-one in that bracket and should be looking hard at FAs and pre-FAs to fill it.

I'd like to think this has been a 3-4 year strategy of waiting to fill that list hole with FAs when that age bracket reaches FA eligibility.

Yeah I'm not sure if I'd call this an aging list. Actually I'd call that total bulltish if I'm honest. What we're missing is the 80-150 gamers, a few FA additions couldn't hurt.

But to say we've got an aging list is just bulltwang.

My opinion is, that if you want pick 4 from GC, then you will need to throw in pick 15, 24 and 34 plus our FF1, GC will only deal if its a big advantage to them. We get 2 top 5 picks, plus Young Brown and upgrade Turner. You have to give to get.

That FA age bracket starts next year with 26yos then.

No, there is no benefit in GC keeping the pick, as it will be absorbed in academy bidding, so they want to trade it. We would only need to outbid every other club. In theory.

Unless you’re saying that this is what will be required to outbid another club, which I think is doubtful.

Probably already posted but ESPN September power rankings are out. Top 30.

AFL Draft Power Rankings September 2023 Jasper Chellappah - Harley Reid, Jed Walter, Riley Sanders, Tew Jiath first round bolters emerging - ESPN

Also link to points for each draft pick below

Points-draft-value.pdf (afl.com.au)

If GC trade pick 4 to us with an early bid on Walters we will have picks 5/6.

In trade negotiations with GC we agree not to bid on their Academy pick Read they will straight away save 234 points before taking into account what we actually give them.

Read would actually be not a bad player to pick up given Grundy and Tomlinson look like leaving, Brown has a bung knee and May and TMc are hitting 30 plus next season.

If we get their pick we could do worse than Caddy and O'Sullivan. We have a small in Kynan Brown coming in.

Kynan is a late developer (preferred by Recruiters as shows continued improvement). Kicked 5 goals 2 points and 25 possessions last week. Kicked 2 goals 2 points (equal high goal scorer on ground) yesterday against Eastern and was in the top players with 20 disposals. Note he performed better than the highly rated Watson (the wizard) did for Eastern.

will he be drafted?

they're saying that they're only expecting around 40 or so 'live picks' in this draft

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.
