Seems like Goodwin is not getting the best out of his players. Heard a rumour about him, if true, we should chop him lose.

What the ones in the paper?

I would be tempted to play Tomlinson forward

Mmm I wouldn't doesn't have a good track record as a forward. GWS swung him there occasionally and wasn't great.

Unfortunately his lack of pace and agility really hurts him.

In: run and dare

Out: slow movement across the half back line and down the wings.

I agree with this.  However, everytime we got the ball from a turnover there was no-one ahead of the ball!  it was like watching us year ago.  Surely we have to fix our overall structure in the fwd half.  Not hard to keep a big man 60m fwd of the ball at all times.  [censored] me it was frustrating

Time to make some personnel changes that force a game re-think..Simon...hence something like...

Backend

Hibberd May lever

Rivers Thommo Hunt

Middle

Gawn Oliver Brayshaw

Langdon Salem Jordon

Frontend

Viney Petty Fritta

Kossie Petracca Bedford

Bench

Harmes, Jackson, Spargo, Dunstan (sub ANB)

Outs.. M Brown, Sparrow, B Brown, ANB, Turner(inj)

Ins... May Thommo  Dunstan Rivers Hunt

Improve the clearances, stop bombing into the frontend, more speed with Hunt and Bedford, give Petracca a specific role....

Hunt played forward a few years ago, and wasn't bad. He does at least compete, led pretty well and was an OK kick for goal. Perhaps worth another go there?

I think Chandler is a bust.

Tommo was a disaster on the wing and up forward.

Too many players are underdone ... Salem/Langdon/Hibberd/Petracca/Lever. (Hibbert came off after 5 minutes in Q1 and was gassed! He did well having regard to that.)

The second/third tier players have been found wanting when the A graders weren't dominating - ANB, Spargo, Sparrow, Harmes, Bowey.

Harmes ran off at one stage clutching his side/ribs.

Out: Small forwards as subs

Still confused why we have 4th best forward pocket as your starting sub.

Perfect opportunity to use Tomlinson as a starting sub knowing that coming into the game Petty was fairly banged up.

Coaching staff have made some truly bizarre selections this year.

Does anyone here know why Daw missed the Casey game? If he was fit honestly he could be worth running in Mitch Browns place - he is a big bodied strong courageous tall and could only add some toughness and foil for BBB and Frittata.  Could also pinch hit ruck if Max or Dogga spent much of the game forward.

Options are limited especially if JVR isn’t thought ready for debut.

Too depressed to work so did some analysis of the "Bye" and the AFL's equitable game system (I've included the day of the next game of football)

15 day break - GWS/Adelaide/GC/Bulldogs/Geeeeelong

14 day break - Freo/Syd/Nth/WC

13 day break - Saints/Rich/Coll/Hawthorn

12 day break - Bris/Carlton/Ess

11 day break - Port

10 day break - MFC

Make of it what you will but we certainly have not been given any favours by the AFL (and dont get me started on our game at Geeeelong)

In: May, Rivers, Bedford, Daw, Dunstan

Out: ANB, Turner, Sparrow, M Brown, Bowey

Jackson to CHF

Bedford can impact scoreboard, and put pressure. ANB needs a spell and hasn't impacted this year

Majak to play bench and Ruck

Gawn to go back and fill hole

Dunstan in middle, apply pressure.

Petracca more forward, has been too fumbly and ineffective in guts anyway.

Pickett to play some mid time

Rivers HBF and Brayshaw on wing

Jordan centre bounce time

Harmes, not sure what his role is apart from being a passenger but he can just stay HF for mine. Can impact when given space and can overhead mark.

Free up Fritsch, Needs space. BBB to never leave the 30m area if not the G square.

Not sure if serious but you've got players coming into the side who are already in it and dropping players who aren't in the side ?

Totally agree with Mr Greywolf.     I wonder if Jackson not wanting to sign is having an effect on the team !!!!!

….. or on him?  Certainly current form will not enhance his (Jackson) price.

Out: M Brown Turner Sparrow

In: Weid May Hunt

Weid playing higher up the ground. Ben Brown close to goals. We simply have to make this work. They are the most experienced and the most capable.

I don’t think we can afford to experiment with defenders or throw a teenager down there and expect him to hold down a key position for the remainder of the season and finals. Ben Brown and Weid are our best options and they need to figure out how to play together and play within the team.

Salem as the best field kick in the side  higher up the ground too - given the abysmal entries into the F50 recently. Brayshaw stays in defence. Hunt on a wing.

The fringe players pre-2021 seem to be reverting. Harmes, ANB, Sparrow, Hunt all took a big step last season but haven’t looked like it recently. I don’t know what can be done about that but I’m relieved this is happening now and not round 17.

We have time but we absolutely need a plan.

The interesting thing about this thread is the number of posters seeking significant change either to personnel or where players are positioned. For example, suggestions that Salem play wing, ANB half-back, promote van Rooyen, play Tomlinson forward, etc. it raises a practical question:

Is the team best served by sticking with last year's plan and personnel, where possible, and just making minor changes? Or do we make significant changes which moves us away from the 2021 model? Is the 2021 gameplan out of date? Or do we stick with it and trust the players to pick up their game?

For those that watch the VFL regularly is this right?  Is he played out of position or does he not have the speed for this level?  Or is his kicking not as good as we thought?  Because the outside distributor seems to be exactly the sort of player we need.

He’s had good moments kicking the ball at Casey. But they play a similar style as the senior side with overall lower skill level, so playing half forward or on ball he doesn’t get a lot of it space. Doesn’t get a lot of it full stop.

His handballs can be equally creative, he has clever vision and timing to release runners. And he seems to do that more than be the runner himself.

At this stage he just looks like a similar player to Spargo, with a little less pace, less strength at the contest and a whole lot less defensive ability. I’d be very surprised if he got a call up.

That may be the ultimate plan... clearly Goody has given Weid specific things to work on at VFL level before he comes back.

I assume these are impacting the contest, bringing the ball to ground if he can't mark and ensuring he has a presence.  He's capable but we haven't seen it consistently before.  I want to see him succeed but fear he may not be cut out for it.

I wonder whether Petty might be a better option if Disco, Tomlinson or Weid could take his spot in defence.

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k
